Milk allergy

We have struggled with our DD being extremely allergic to all things dairy. To make a long story short she has a terrible dairy allergy, one so severe even eating bread does her harm. At home and most places we frequent we are ok. We have gotten along just fine going out to dinner knowing now what we have to avoid. My question is for breakfast at WDW do they offer Soy or Almond milk? I would really rather not get a taxi just to go to Target to pick up a few gallons... Don't get me wrong I will do whatever it takes for my little princess but I would rather pay the premium to purchase it at the hotel if it is available.

I just don't know where to get it, honestly in all my visits I never really had to worry about finding non-dairy alternatives for my breakfasts.

I know they are very attentive at sit down meals and take families through all the options, etc. when there's an allergy. But, I've never paid attention to whether or not they offer containers of milk alternatives.

DS has a dairy intolerance. We never had any trouble with our TS meals because we e-mailed before we left and they made sure there was soy milk at the restaurants. Also, at the restaurants we told them of DS's intolerance and they walked us through what was safe for him. I would e-mail SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com and ask them where soy milk is readily available. They were very helpful for us.

I think they have soy at all the food courts. You can stop in during a slower time and ask to speak with the chef and they will help you through what she can and can't eat and what modifications they can make.
Check on the disabilities board, there is an email posted for the special diets department in the faq. You can email them and tell them your adrs and they will let the restaurants know.

Thanks for the quick replies all! DW has a seafood allergy so we are well aware of the TS ability to complety accomodate any special needs.

Many CS places have Silk single serve boxes in the coolers with other drinks. DD2 is lactose intolerant and drinks soy, so we were worried as well, but she was quite content (although being intolerant is definitely not as bad as your DD's allergy!). If there was none available, we were just going to give her the other alternatives - water and juice - for the time we were there. Milk is not essential to her diet, and I didn't see the benefit of taking a taxi to a grocery store for 1/2 gallon of soy milk.

My dd was anaphlactic to dairy until about a year ago. We would take her soy milk (you could get it delivered if you fly) and get a fridge. When I reserved the fridge I just told them dd has severe food allergies and we needed it for her soy milk (she couldn't drink Silk since it has corn flavoring in it). They didn't charge us since it was a medical necessity. When we stayed at a Pirate Room dd kept saying her milk was in the rummer? We were so confused. Until we realized she saw part of Pirates of the Carribean and recognized the 'rum barrel' We've been 4 times to DW with her and severe food allergies (we carry epipens), you are welcome to PM if I can help I will be glad too!

I will tell you to avoid the fries at AK, they are not 100% dairy free. We lost a full day with dd reacting to them.

Forgot to answer the orginal question. All the food courts at the values and CBR carry single serve SIlk, most have plain and chocolate. If they are out, speak with a CM and they will get some from another Food Court.

Divvies has some yummy milk free treats too, we found them at Music 3 yrs ago.
HTH!

If you really think you need a few gallons, why not try one of the grocery delivery services?

You do not need to worry. The chefs are great. just about every restaurant sit down or counter service carries silk. Some even have rice dream. For childrens meals it is considered a drink option which is included especially if for an allergy.

Always to talk to a chef because every thing is made in mass quantities and you never know what may have touched the food. Or what is in the preservatives. They will make everything special for them even at buffets you dont want someone accidently putting the mac n cheeses spoon in spoon in something. Disney is fantastic with allergies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck

My son (age 7) is allergic to dairy as well as peanuts, treenuts & egg whites.

I bought cartons of soy at the resort & kept in the fridge for breakfast for him since that is the only time he drinks milk but it was available pretty much anywhere I needed it to be if I wanted it.

He has only been to WDW twice but I can say I feel at ease the entire time there. When I ask for a list of ingriedients, I don't get that blank stare like I do elsewhere.

Oh & OT, a tip I learned from the yahoo dairy free group a few years ago. I always made (still do) pancakes since my oldest (not allergic) loved them. I always used skim milk because it made them fluffier. Well ds is born & allergic to milk so I tried soy milk. They were not so good. A tip came along via email to use apple juice instead of milk. So I tried it & yummy. My ds (allergic one) won't eat pancakes, cakes, muffins, breads, cookies...oh the list goes on, he loves fruit & veggies & very few cookies. Anyways, he won't eat them but I still make my pancakes that way. Muffins too (like jiffy mixes) that require milk, I add juice. If I don't have apple, I use what I have-grape, orange, etc...

When DS was 3 1/2 he was severly allergic to wheat, eggs, and dairy. I had never had such an easy time feeding him, as I did at Disney! Everyone was great, some really stood out, like the chef at Boma, but we were there for 10 days, and I never wanted to leave. They got it. They understood that even ingesting a minute amount would send Ben needing benadryl and epi or he would be projectile vomiting for days and be left unable to breathe. He had one bad reaction, and it was entirely *my* fault.

We used garden grocer and had many half gallons ordered with other foods and had a fridge in our room. There was never a point where I got frustrated because I could not feed my boy. Have a wonderful time!

You should hop on over the disABILITIES! board and take a look around. You'll see plenty of reviews by people with allergies including but not limitted to milk.

Every TS and CS restaurant and food court we've been to around WDW has carried Silk soy milk (at food courts it's in the self-serve cooler). Our last trip they seemed to have plain, very vanilla and chocolate. The food courts also seem to all have rice milk (Pacific brand) but you have to ask a chef to get you a cup as they don't carry single serving cartons. At TS restaurants most seem to carry rice milk but I haven't asked at CS restaurants in parks but I get the impression from the Special Diets department that it's much less stocked at those locations. No almond milk anywhere.

I generally place a grocery order with Garden Grocery and include milk as part of the order (I have to order 3 different kinds since 1 kid drinks Silk, 1 kid can't tollerate silk so drinks rice milk and DH drinks lactose free milk; I can drink both the rice and soy). I also order cases of bottled water, snacks and other breakfast foods for eating our room. I CAN get breakfast foods at resort food courts despite our long lists of allergies but I prefer to eat in our room as it's so much faster not to mention cheaper. We eat big early lunches and like our light easy breakfasts in our room.

I absolutely agree that baked goods and breakfast foods like pancakes are wonderful with apple juice. I actually learned that one from a chef at POFQ.

Just so you know, the regular breads around WDW do contain milk with the exception of the gourmet hot dog buns (this is new so I haven't tried them for my daughter yet but I had a chef confirm this for me less than 2 weeks ago). Other than that one kind of bun, the only milk free breads are also gluten free. The regular chicken tenders (kids nuggets and adult tenders) also contain milk but the allergy free tenders at DELICIOUS and completely milk free.

Also, there are lots of places around WDW where you can get Tofutti (soy) or Rice Dream (rice) ice creams. YUMMY!! Most TS locations and resort food courts and select park CS locations carry then as do the ice cream parlours. The popcorn and soft salted pretzels at the carts around the parks are also milk free (not sure about the pretzels in Germany but the standard salted ones everywhere else are milk free) as are the frozen pineapple bars, frozen strawberry bars and Itzkadoozie popsicles at all the frozen snack carts around the parks.

Three years ago it took me about a 1/2 hour to track down the recipe & they were dairy free then. And my son loved the Itzakadoozie's so I was happy that he was happy.

The only thing they wouldn't give us were shots/jimmies/sprinkles because they "may contain peanuts." But I grabbed some for my ds & he ate them since I do give him stuff like that.

The things you learn! I stopped making pancakes because they just tasted so weird with soy and I couldn't do it so I just made them off limits :rolleyes1 I will certainly have to try it with the juice instead!

Thanks all!
