Military tickets

We are PCSing to San Diego this August and of course our first thought was Disneyland! Disappointed that annuals cost more than the annuals to Disney World! (Can only really go during the weekend and want to go during the holidays). Since the military tickets are 3 day tickets for $150 we figure we would go that route. Do the 3 days on the ticket have to be used the same trip or week? Trying to figure out if we can squeeze out four two day trips or we have to plan for a long weekend. Thanks!

No, you can use them anytime before they expire, but you have to use them before Sept. 27th (first purchase must be before Sept. 25th). And fortunately for you it's only $129, not $150!

You also don't have to buy them on base, you can just go directly to the park.

no. they have to be purchased through MWR. Limit six per Service Member ID card, and they are by name vouchers.

Actually, yes, you can buy them at the park (I've done it before) but sometimes it's easier through MWR. You do need to show your active/retired ID card.

Why is it easier to buy them at MWR? I live in No. VA so they don't have Disneyland tix here. I can get them ordered at one of the bases, but it is quite a ways away. I plan on just getting them when we get there, the night before we go to the parks. I want to make sure this isn't going to be more trouble than the drive I would have to take to get them before we go.

Actually, we were station at Ft. Belvoir and lived right near Quantico. I was able to purchase Disneyland tickets at both! They were not listed on the price sheet but they were able to order them for me. They were also able to order different numbers of days then were offered.
What really struck me as interesting was that each MWR/ITT offered them at different prices!!

Now, these were the military discount tickets, NOT the Military salute tickets. Those were the same prices no mater which base I purchased them from.

Military Salute tickets are available on base AND at the Disney gates, Military Discount tickets are only available at MWR/ITT locations. Shades of Green at WDW has an ITT office.

Tickets purchased on base are not taxed. Tickets purchased at WDW are taxed. California does not tax theme park tickets.

You can purchase Disney's Military Salute tickets at any WDW or DL ticket gate, you will just need the military member who is eligible to purchase them with you or be the spouse of that person. All you have to show is your military ID.

6 tickets per sponsor ID can be activated during each promotional period for each park (WDW and DL). The current promotion ends this September but it should be renewed once again.

I think it took almost a half hour to get the 5 tickets we bought last time we went, and we had walked up to an empty window.

It would cost me a few hours and lots of gas, so I think I will just get them at the ticket booth the night we get in. I believe the ticket booths are open until closing, correct?, so we should be able to go over there when we get in early evening. If I could have gotten them through Quantico I would have done it. I got our WDW tickets at Quantico, but they carry them, both salute and discount. They do not have, nor can they order the DL ones, according to the person I spoke with.

Yeah I like to have them before, but I don't think there will be too much activity at the booths when we go in the evening. At least I hope not. I'll take a half hour any day over the time, traffic, and gas it would take me to get them here. I guess worst case is we have to wait in a line to get them. I guess if it's too long, I will send everyone else to DTD and have them come back when I get to the front of the line.

Not who you were asking but you've always been able to get the salute tickets at the booths. I've done it several times. Non-salute tickets are different but the salute ones you can just buy at the booth.

Even though they are purchased, ID will have to be produced at the park. We just returned the 15th and I was asked for my ID twice when I used the tickets.

I haven't used a military ticket in a long time so this may be old out of date information. I thought the multiday passes had two expiration dates. the long date, how long they were good for and the other would be 14 days after the first use. these were tickets we purchased at the MWR and at the time did not require ID at the park.

I know I will need to show ID to activate, but here I would have to show ID even just to order the tickets. I guess you don't if you call Camp Pendleton.

Also, I hope my family won't have any trouble getting in. We will be purchasing and activating the tickets together, but may not always be together going into the parks every time. If we have to be at the gate every time one of them goes in, that may be a problem. My son has ID, but it's just dependent. My brother, sister, & niece will have no ID. This was never a problem at WDW. Hopefully it won't be at DLR either.

Unlike WDW, they don't have fast pass+ at DLR so you can't make ride reservations in advance. I would just get there early and buy tickets at the gate. Better yet, go to ticketing the night before; the ticket booths close an hour before park closing. Also, if you buy tickets at Disneyland, you can use your Disney gift cards. If you buy them at Target with your Red Card, that's a 5% discount (9% if you have a pharmacy reward as well). That's a discount you don't get at the MWR.
Though they do change policies from time to time, they should only ask for ID on the first day of use; they should take your photo so you won't need ID after that. That allows you to invite friends or relatives to go on day one without having you (the sponsor) back with them on the following two days.
