Military tickets for October?

Our son who has an active Military ID will be joining us for part of our trip to DLR in October! :cool1: The rest of us have AP's. I saw a military discount on the Disneyland website, but it ends before our trip. Is there almost always a military discount? Is it best to get his ticket on the Disneyland website, or are they for sale on post? He will be with us for 3 days, so we'll probably want to get him a 3-day PH. He is new in the Army, so this is new territory for us. My dh was in the Army, but that was many, many moons ago--long before kids and Disney trips. ;) Actually we did go one day when he was in the Army, but I doubt we even thought about getting tickets ahead of time or with a discount. Any suggestions would be great. We will be going 2 days before him. We will be staying onsite with an AP discount, unless there is any sort of military discount that could be used with him arriving later. I'm doubting that, and I don't want to doing anything in a 'grey area.' Thanks for any help!

Hi, He should be able to grab his tickets on base, and make sure he doesn't forget his cac card because he will need to show it when he gets to the main entrance. I thought disney has an ongoing military program, but my DH always gets ours from on base! (Better safe then sorry) I hope you guys have a wonderful time and make lots of magical memories at the Disneyland Resort!
Also thank your son for me, his service to our country is very much appreciated!

Great, thank you! I looked and right now the price they list online at the Disney site is $129 for a 3-day PH, which is a great deal.

Hakuna matata! That is a great deal especially when single day park hoppers are about that price!!

My dad is retired Navy and always gets his tickets on base. Thank your son and your husband for their service. :goodvibes

Thanks, everyone! :) I know, I was shocked by the price! Just to be curious--are parents and siblings allowed to go in with military members, or does it have to be just spouses and children? He is only 20, so we are his 'immediate family' currently. I'm just wondering for a year or two down the line whether our family would be eligible to use military tickets with him. Again, I'm not trying to cheat the system. I'm just curious what the rules are. Thanks!

Each service member can buy up to 6 per promotional period. They don't have to be used by family, but the service member does have to be there and show ID. I buy them with my dependent ID and my BFF was able to use the ticket (me with her) without issue.

Cool, thanks! He'll be in Georgia for training at some point, so I was telling him we should try to do a DW trip while he is there if he can get some leave. But that is a couple years off, thankfully! I'm not ready for him to be off yet! He's still a student. Trying to treasure this time, so I am extra thankful he has a 3-day weekend and is willing to fly down and join us at DLR!:cool1:

The current military tickets expire September 24th. Disney will announce if they are renewing the promotion. Last year it was announced on July 22nd, so hopefully soon the announcement will come.

You can also buy them at the gates if he isn't able to get them on base or just wants to wait. I think on-base you don't pay tax but at the gates you do. We get ours at the gates. Just don't forget the military ID.

The price might go up a few dollars for the next promotional period, but it gets renewed every year.

There are actually 2 different promotions available to him:

1. Discounted tickets that he can purchase at any MWR/ITT office.

These are regular tickets at a discounted price so more days are available, not just the 3 days. They can be discontinued at any time by Disney (don't see this happening), but once purchased can be activated whenever, even years from now. These are available for WDW, too.

2. Military Salute Tickets that can be purchased on base or at the ticket gates.

These are available for a certain period of time and have to be activated/used before a certain date. Eligible purchasers are limited to 6 per promotional period per park (6 at DL/CA and 6 at WDW) The current promotion ends 24 September 2014 but this program has been going on since shortly after 9-11 and should be renewed.

Also, I learned from a fellow Diser that California does not tax theme park tickets. :) Florida does tax them so it is beneficial to purchase them prior to arriving at WDW.

As for the room discounts, they are available but I believe that he has to be there to check in. I could be VERY wrong about this as I know spouses can use the discount (I'm one!) even without the sponsor present. They are available through Disney and through the MWR/ITT offices on post that book travel. Worse case, if there are rooms available with the military discount while you are there, you might only get the discount for the nights he is in the room. It is certainly worth a call to Disney to find out your options as the discounts are currently 30% off. :)

Hope you all have a wonderful trip!

OP I just want to make sure this is clear, so you don't end up spending uselessly.

The current Salute tickets ($129) will expire on Sept 24. If he buys them at the base now, he will NOT be able to use them in October.

As one of the PP's said, this is the time of year Disney usually announces if they are going to renew the Salute deal, so watch for that announcement. Someone will post when/if they do. The price will probably go up, but it will still be a great deal!

If they do renew, he will be able to buy them at the Disneyland gate and there will not be any tax added to them there.
