Military ticket special question

I have a question. I know the military deal free 5 day pass for AD members and $99 for dependants (add $25 for park hopper option ) is a great deal but we will be flying in from overseas and to make it worth while I was wondering is there any way to pay more money and upgrade it to a 7 day ticket. If you just try to add a two day pass the cost is such that you might as well buy the regular 7 day hopper as there is no change in price. Sorry my question is long but I have searched everywhere on the internet but can not find the answer anywhere. I know my fellow disboarders will have the answers. Thanks in advance.

I was having the same thoughts when I started planning our trip. I decided to stick with our 7 or 8 day trip and then plan out of the park days. We can swim, resort shopping, putt putt etc.

Please post if you find anything out!

Days cannot be added to the tickets. You can upgrade the companion tickets to an annual pass but I don;t think it would be worth the extra money in your case.

You can add water parks and more to the tickets for $25 ea. That would give you something to do on the extra days as it gives you 5 visits like you get with the the salute ticket. It would a cheaper alternative than upgrading to an annual pass.

We ended up adding an 8 day MYW base ticket to our free dining package so that with our 5 day military tickets we could have a total of 13 days. It would have been nice to be able to upgrade, but since you can't add on tickets this was the next best thing. We had to buy a 1 day pass anyway to get the free dining.

Some people have reported on here that they were told that they could. Of course each SM is only allowed to get ONE free ticket and 5 companion tickets.

Have people reported being able to buy more tickets?????

So, I don't remember what the max # of $99 tickets you can get are but this worked for us at DLR Last week:

The DLR tickets are only 3 day and we wanted to do 6 days. We were able to purchase a max of 5 of the $99 tickets and there were 3 of us going.

So it worked out like this: We used the free AD and (2) $99 tickets fot the first three days then went back to the ticket booth with the remaining (3) $99 tickets and did 3 more days so essentially we ended up with 6 Day Park Hoppers for 3 people (At a savings of about $100 total).

We had been told that we could do this over the phone from Disney before the trip but got a little flak for it at the ticket booths which had us worried at first that it wouldn't be honored but they eventually did it.

Otherwise, to actually upgrade the tickets, we were told that it would be more expensive than just getting regular military discounted tickets.

I just got off the phone with another CM who told me even though we went in March and used the military tickets we can go again in September and do the whole military ticket thing again??? I keep getting different answers! Does anyone know or has anyone done this?

What is the maximum number of tickets. We got our free one in Jan. and 4 companion tickets. Could we get another 99 then??

The max number of companion tickets is 5 (unless there are more dependents).

Now in both your cases, I'm not sure if you would be allowed to purchase more tickets since you have already bought some. It is my understanding from reading stuff from Disney, that all the tickets have to be bought at the same time. (but they keep changing the rules :sad2:)

People have reported that they bought all the tickets they were allowed, used so many for one trip and plan on going back and using the rest for another trip.

I thought the reason they entered all the information at WDW when you activated them was so that they knew you had already used up your tickets for the one time promotion. I would love to know if anyone used their max. amt. of tickets and was able to get more late on. :confused3

I thought the rule was that you could only do the deal once per service member?

That is what I think too. I mean if it wasn't.....the military person would have to be at WDW to activate them anyway. SO they would see that they had already activated a set of passes on a previous trip. We got them in Jan. but have 3 days left. If I thought we could get another set LEGALLY I would probably do that.

I have a question along the same lines. My parents are at Disney now and just got his free and her $99 ticket. The agent at SoG is telling them that they can buy another pair of $99 tickets for me and my wife to use when we come for Christmas with Mom. But, I am reading in various places that the serviceman must be with us when our tickets are first used, or activated. Is that true? If so it will not work for us since we plan to arrive several days before Mom (who has military ID) and Dad won't be there at all that trip. I didn't see anything about activating the tickets in the rules posted on MouseSavers, but it does say military ID may be required for admission. I'm real nervous I may drop a couple hundred on tickets that I can't use. Has anybody done this?

TIA
:santa:

I would love to hear from more people that have taken advantage of this. Did you show your military ID for activation? If reservist, did you have to show orders? Can a military spouse activate tickets?

You know Shan-man I am guessing, and I know this doesn't help you much, that the person at SOG is telling your dad that he can buy the ticket now and have it activated while he is there and then you can your mom can use it later. I know for a fact that the service member has to be there for it to be activated and the guest is "supposed" to be there at activation but from what I have read they aren't really particular about this, although I have read some ask for the ID's of the guests but the servicemember doesn't have to be there at the time the guest actually goes into the park or uses the ticket because like, what if the service member is tired or retired like my 79 year old dad? :) I know that didn't help you much but maybe someone can expand and I will add there is HUGE thread on this somewhere if you'll search it's been a while since I read it.

Just to clarify because I rambled a bit the service member HAS to be there for activation but does NOT have to be there the first time it's used. You can activate long before it's first use BUT the guest is 'supposed' to be there at time of activation. This has been very hit and miss from what I have read. Many seem to have had great success having tickets activated without their guests around by going to DTD.
