Military ticket questions

60 days? My understanding is only those staying onsite (Disney owned hotel, not SOG) can make them 60 days out. Everyone else it's 30. And, I just verified it on the Disney site.
We were staying on site, just bought our tickets from shades.

Tickets bought at SOG are activated there. They cannot be shipped from SOG to a home. If you purchase at SOG then you probably are not making FP 60 or 30 days out unless you are local and buy them there and use them before the offer expires.

This information is simply incorrect. I have personally had activated salute tickets shipped from SOG to my house, just a few months ago.

If you purchase the military salute tickets from SOG (you will need to provide proof of eligibility) they can ship them to you and they are activated. If you purchase the military salute tickets from a base or post exchange, these MUST be activated at guest services. You can use the voucher ( which is what you get) to schedule your fast passes at 60 or 30 days.

30 days for SOG. Only those staying in Disney hotels can do 60 day FP. We always pre-purchase through SOG but this will be our first trip with FP+ in place.

Yes, it's 30 days if you are STAYING at SOG. But there are people, like us, who pre-purchase tickets from SOG, but stay at a Disney hotel and therefore make FP selections at 60 days.

You ABSOLUTELY can have activated tickets from SOG mailed to your home. We just did this in March. No need to go up to ticket counter.

The service member will have to send a scan or pic of their military ID as proof.

Good tip given to us by CM at ticket counter: when you get your cards in the mail, take a pic of the back of them. Just in case you lose them and something freaky happens with Disney IT (because that never happens ) you'll have the info easily available so it won't be a huge hassle.

We have a friend that lives two hours from Disney World that said if we needed anything he could help us out. We have my daughters friend that needs a 5 day hopper and it looks like he can get a good discount for her. Can he buy the tickets now so that I can load it to my Disney experience for FP at our 60 day window which will be soon? I know he will have to be there on Aug. 13th when she uses the ticket for the first time and he is fine with that :-)
I just want to make this as easy as I can for him because he is doing us a big favor.

What will be the best deal and easiest way for a 5 day hopper ...

There are several different military ticket options. The best deal (cheapest) are the "salute" tickets, but I don't really see them working for you bc your friend would have to buy one for himself as well your daughter's friend. The idea is that they are for a service member to use with up to 5 guests. So he not only has to come on the first day, he has to purchase himself a ticket too.

The next option, which is probably better for you, is that he can buy a regular myw 5 day park hopper at his base ITT at a discounted rate. It's not nearly as cheap as the salute tickets, but he can buy just one for your daughter's friend, and he will not have to be there the first time she uses it.

With either of these options, you can purchase and add them to MDE to make FP at 60 days.

ok thanks for the info ...
So the Salute ticket will not work for us then, his entire family has AP's so not need for him or them to ever buy a ticket.

Do you know how much a 5 day hopper on base cost?
My sister is active military overseas so I can just have her do that but only if its a good savings and not just tax so to speak

I don't... we haven't used that type of ticket in a long time. I think it was maybe $30ish cheaper, plus no tax. If your sister calls her base ITT they'll be able to tell her.

I just checked and it looks like it is cheaper to buy the 5 day hopper on Parksavers than through the base (base is 436 and parksavers 428)

They're probably staying on-site, but you still need to link tickets to request FP's.

This is not entirely true. If the servicemember is buying fewer than 6 tickets, he/she does not have to activate one in his/her name. ONLY IF the servicemember is buying the maximum of 6 tickets, does one have to be in his/her name. Several times we have bought and activated the Military Salute tickets for our family members when we have had Annual Passes.

It is still true that the Salute ticket would have to be activated by the servicemember.

The MWR/ITT offices set their prices dependent on what they pay when they order the tickets from Disney. I went to the MWR this morning to buy 5-day parkhopper Salute passes and they were $220 each (regular price is $228). They didn't have regular 5-day MYW tickets, but their 4-day hopper was $385.25 (gate price $446.41). Significant savings, especially when you factor in not paying sales tax.

My understanding is one of the 6 tickets has to be used by the service member, but if the service member has an annual pass, the service member can purchase tickets for others without purchasing one for him/herself.

So we went with a couple who is on Active Duty last year. One of them (service member or spouse) was required to be there to activate the tickets at the ticket window, and at least one of them had to be activated under their name. They even made him give his thumb print if I remember correctly so that it matched when going through the gate. We were able to link the tickets to our MDE and make our 60 Day FP selections with no issues prior to going to going down there. We also stayed at Disney resort, so that may have helped with that. These were the Salute to the Troops 4 Day w/Hopper tickets that are only available to Active Duty or Retired Personnel. Any of the other tickets options through MWR do not require any special activation requirements. I would verify with both SOG and WDW Ticket services to ensure that if they are in fact able to "activate" those tickets without the service member being physically present. You have what seems like a legitimate reason to do so, but what says people won't just have their military friends fax a photo of their ID with no intention of going? I am a disabled veteran living in a military town with plenty of military friends that would do that for me. That ticket deal is amazing, it's like 4 Days w/Hopper for under $300...

When we (annual pass holders) obtained the salute tickets for my daughter and her family, all of us were staying at SOG. We did go to the parks with them, but we were able to use our annual passes and her family had salute tickets. There was no fraud involved. The tickets did not have to be activated.

Interesting. I was told something different over the phone by SOG. I know Disney phone CMs are notorious for bad info, but this is the first time I've been given misinformation from SOG. Maybe I got the new girl!

Isn't that what I said?

I'm not sure what you were told or what you asked.

The week before Easter we had reservations at SOG for both ourselves and my daughter's family. My husband and I have annual passes and military IDs. My adult daughter filled out the ticket form for 5 day regular military tickets for her family. She did not try to get salute tickets because that week was blacked out. Shades called her and told her she could get the salute tickets because Disney waved the blackout date. Neither my husband or I bought salute tickets because we had annual passes. Maybe it was allowed because we all had reservations at SOG.
