Military Specials??

Has anyone heard if Disney is going to offer anymore specials for military this coming year? Last year they offered free park admission but I have annual pass so what I'd be interested in would be lodging.

If anyone hears please give me a shout. Since I'm single now I have to pinch pennies if I'm going to be able to go to Disney.

Has anyone stayed at Shades of Green? If you stay there do they have reduced cost dinning plan with your stay there?

Hey Dave,

They haven't announced any military discounts for 2010. You may want to check at the travel office on a base. As for SOG, the rooms are great and they do offer dining and a little bit of a park ticket discount. They do not participate in the Disney Dining Plan but you can eat there more reasonably than the Disney restaurants. Good luck!

I saw that Disney is offering $99 military 5 day tickets. The offer is a little different from last year and there are black out dates. I saw it at the top of the DIS boards. It looked like the tickets would be good for marathon weekend. Dh and I are so excited.

I would love for them to offer something great for 2010, at the moment we have no 2010 Disney trips scheduled, but if they do come out with a Military offer DH may consider.

Does anyone know if I can go eat at a restraunt at SOG even if I'm not staying there? I would like to try that and look around. Also wonder if I can take a friend that isn't military but are my guest.

Is there a place I can look at room rates like I can with the other resorts?

If you have regular base access, you can get into SOG property and use the tax free shopping and I'm pretty sure the restaurants. As far as rates check http://www.shadesofgreen.org . Good luck and I hope to see you down there!!!!!

As for the restaurants, check out the SOG hotel thread on DISboards.
This is my opinion only - but I'd skip their restaurants. Yes, they are cheaper but quality is not what you would expect. It was on par with the DFAC in Iraq, actually. The Poly is right across the street and is a much better option for a walk for food. Transportation is on Disney buses and we have never had a problem (others may differ on this). Rooms are really, really big (more like a deluxe resort at mod or value prices!).

Thank you for that link. I assume the rate for military retired is the rank you retired at?

It was actually more than an economy resort with the specials they run at those but looks much nicer. Budget will dictate where I stay in the coming years.

I'm going to go and check it out when I'm there the next 10 days. It would be kinda cool hanging with the warriors again.
