Military Salute tickets

Do the new 'details' on the Disney site say that one of the tickets has to be purchased for the military person? My mother-in-law usually does not go to the parks with us, but just purchases the tickets for the rest of us. (She does meals with us and shops during the day) Not sure if we will use this offer this year if we have to add on the expense of a ticket for her too.

Thanks for any help in clarifying.

Is she the military member or spouse? Or is someone with you military? The military person or their spouse has to go activate the tickets at a ticket window on property. It doesn't matter who buys them, but it does matter who tries to use them.

No, she doesn't need to buy a ticket for herself but she will need to be at shades when you purchase them and she will need to be at the ticket window at the park to activate them. Once they are activated you can come and go as you please.

That is the way it has been in the past, and what we have done. ( She is the military person in our group.) But read the 'details' from Disney's site

"No more than twelve (12) Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased, activated and/or used by any Eligible Service Member or spouse during the life of this promotion, and no Eligible Service Member or spouse may purchase, activate and/or use more than six (6) Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets during any single week of the promotion. One (1) of the Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets purchased on each occasion must be for use by the Eligible Service Member or spouse. This offer is for active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard."

What do you think? A change to the past rules?

I was there last week, 9/2 to 9/11, DH and I are both AP holders so we did not buy any tickets for ourselves but we did buy one Military Salute Ticket at shades for a friend who is going to F&W on Haloween weekend. We then went to Epcot and activated it for her. I gave them my military ID card and the Military Salute Ticket and said I needed to activate the ticket. The CM asked for my friends name, address and phone number and that was it. At no time did they ask if my husband or I had tickets. The only question they asked me other than the friends info is DH's birthdate but I think that is because DH and DS have the same birthdate and they wanted to make sure to activate under the correct person.

Sorry to hijack but I gave a related question. We need seven tickets. Is there any way my mom, who has an id card, can buy three and my dad, who is the retiree, buy four? Or his his name somehow attached to them all?

Tia!

While a spouse can buy tickets, the promotion is tied directly to the active or retired servicemember. For example, I can buy tickets with my ID, but they will still go with husband's social since he is the active member.

Two active duty or retired can buy 6 each, however -- my friends who are married and both active bought 12 tickets, 6 with each.

Thank you, that's what I thought. Looks like we'll be buying my daughter's at a regular price! But at least the rest of us get a discount ;)

I think that the rule is if you are buying 6 tickets, one must be for the servicemember, but up to and including 5, that's not the requirement. So the spouse can only buy and activate 5 tickets at once, max. My kids and I had APs in January and I activated one Military Salute ticket for my sister with no problem (I'm a spouse).

I am interested in this because I've seen mixed results on how it works.

My friend's DH was deployed and couldn't come home on R&R like planned, but they had a trip to WDW planned with the kids, so she invited his parents to come and they used all 6 tickets and she had no problem getting them -- just bought all six. She bought at Guest Relations and they just told her she couldn't buy any more for at least a week but they could get 6 more later on if DH came back and they wanted to go.

However, I had another friend who's mother tried to buy the tickets (she's a retired spouse) but they said only her husband could buy all 6. It worked out -- just called and had retiree come out of room to get them. So I don't know what the right combination/number/person is... it's so crazy!

My son is in the Air Force and is coming to disney this December with us. Can he buy 2 for himself and 2 for my husband? As we are going for 7 days and will need 2 for each of them.

With Disney’s Armed Forces Salute, from Jan. 3 to July 31, 2010, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard and active members of the National Guard or Reservists) or their spouses can purchase Disney’s 4-Day Military Promotional Base Tickets for $99, plus tax, for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends for use at Walt Disney World Resort. The Park Hopper and Water Park Fun & More options can be added for an additional $26, plus tax, per option, per ticket. No more than six Disney’s 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets (with or without options) may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (and/or spouse) pursuant to this offer.

That was last year. The rules and prices are different for the new promotion.

OK, I feel like a newby all over again! I can't find the military salute promo....I'll still look, but can someone show me the way?! Thanks!

Okay, I think I understand now. Thank you, Claire.

As long as the 6th ticket is for the military person, you can buy 5 others too, or not buy that 6th one at all if they are not going to the parks. That's what we have done in the past, but I was confused by the wording on Disney's site.

Appreciate all the responses!

I'm so glad I came on here today! We got a 40% discount on our room and will get the 4 day military tickets. We actually need 6 day tickets. Does anyone know if we can upgrade to 6 days? If not, what do you suggest I do for the extra 2 days? I thought there was mouse savers or something for tix? Thanks a million!!!

The military salute tickets cannot be upgraded in any way other than adding park hopper or water parks and more. We just use a full day for water parks or hang out at the resort and Downtown Disney for a day. Four days in the parks are short, but it is such a great deal on the tickets. We had a more relaxing time of it with the shorter park days. And really made the most of our deluxe hotel.

Our trip consists of 7 to 8 park days so we are going to buy 2 tickets for each of us, it was still less than any other option. This might work for you.
