Military Salute Passes

Hi wtrflea,

Thanks for all your great info about the military salute passes. Is my DH the only one that will actually need to present his ID in order the receive the passes at both WDW and at Sea World? When we travel, we try to take as few ID's, credit cards, etc. with us to the parks just in case our wallets get lost. (I know that I sound so paranoid, but I do what I can to ease my anxieties!)

Anyway, I appreciate your input! Have a Disney Day! :earseek:

Is the finger scan only for the Military person (the free ticket) or will the others use that too. Will my family members need to have ID on them.

I will be bringing some nieces and nephew, and they are not military dependents. Will it be enough if I have ID (the active duty spouse?) These children are young, don't have driver's licenses, and i doubt they even have picture id for school.

Thanks
Maddle

The adult tickets do require the finger scan. While you don't HAVE to show your id, it is a good idea to have your id with you, just as with an AP, in case there is a problem. The tickets should have your name on the back of them. I would also assume, just like with an AP, that under a certain age they would not be expecting an ID. One thing to note, I was with friends at WDW two weeks ago and my friend is in the Coast Guard, so was able to take advantage of this. At the time of purchase, they got his free, and then 4 tickets, 2 for children, 2 for adults. This was at the MK guest relations booth. His ticket clearly stated it was the comped ticket. The other 4 had his name on it and that it was the 99 military salute, but the all looked the same. However they are evidently marked in the barcode as adult or child. We were having a problem when one of the kids would go through the turnstyle with it wanting a finger scan. On the second day we stopped at Guest Relations in Epcot and they were the ones that told us all the tickets should have the individuals name on them and there was a difference between the adult and child passes. The wonderful cast members there straightened it all out for us.

Sorry to but in on your thread but I was wondering if anyone can help?

I am a serving member of the UK Military (Army) and I am coming to WDW this July with my family (our first ever visit to the US). I have already registered for the Busch Military Salute and I was wondering if you guys could tell me whether this generous offer from Disney may be open to your trans-atlantic cousins?

Any help or advice you can provide would be more than appreciated, thanks.

John:)

Hi John

Unfortunately neither the Disney or Universal offers or any other military 'perks' extend to personnel serving outside the US. My DH is in the RN (I'm ex RN myself) & was in the Gulf for the Iraq war so I've done a bit of research for our upcoming trip

Make the most of the Busch Gardens/SeaWorld offer :D

Welcome to the DIS :Pinkbounc

Hi John and welcome to the DIS.

Unfortunately I have to echo TraceyL's comments. WDW did not have the foresight to include our all Allied Forces in their offer. In fact, there was a pretty heated debate about it when the Military Salute was first offered. Take advantage of the Busch Gardens/Seaworld offer, and have a great time. And for the record, as a military spouse and Air National Guard Member, I truly appreciate all the efforts of our Allied Forces!

Does anyone know if you are able to buy the passes for family members not present?
I thought someone said yes but I can't find that post.

Also has anyone been able to buy these at a base? My BIL is in the military and would love to buy these for us but he is a Drill Instructor and may not have time to run down there.

Yes, reddi, you can buy them for family or friends that are not present.

Tracey, for getting back to me. Ahh well full price it is then!

As we`re new to the Disney experience where, in your opinion is the best place to buy the tickets? We`re after 5 day hoppers and we`re unsure as to whether to buy them online or at the gate. What do you reckon?

Thanks

John

This is a wonderful offer and it is great of WDW and the other parks to do this. We have a trip planned to WDW in October (has been planned since last December before war broke out). It was supposed to be my family (DH and 2 kids), my parents, and my brother and his wife. My brother is in the Army and was sent to Iraq in early April and now we're not sure when he will be back. We can't postpone our trip because it was a timeshare trade so we are locked in for that week. The rest of us will go but I don't think we'll be able to take advantage of the Salute passes because I don't think his wife will go without him. Oh well! Those of you who can take advantage of it should!!!

As a rough guide....

5 day hopper plus tickets will cost $260 (£161) from www.ticketmania.com (free international shipping)
10 day World passes cost £189 from www.virgintravelstore.co.uk
on the gate a 5 day hopper plus pass is about $286.50

Why don't you join us on the
UK section of the boards ? Lots of poeple to give more specific advice to UK visitors over there !

:D

Along with the Active Reserves... We're going in October with a friend who is in the Army Reserves. He's been active since 9/11. Does that count? I know they have to have orders, and I honestly don't know how often Reserves guys get orders if they're active that long... (I'm still trying to figure out the active duty military!)

The way I understand the salute is that the Reserve/Guard member does not have to be active at the time of the trip. They only have to show a copy of their orders proving they were active. My DH is active and will still be active when we go in Aug. I have not been active at all, so we will have to pay for my ticket!

Yeah, but... ;) I figured you would know, Jessica! Uh, so if he was activated way back on Sept. 12 (literally!), will he have more recent orders? Do they resissue orders every year or so? Because from what I gather, your orders have to show that you were active between the certain dates, whatever they are. And I honestly don't know if the Reserves would have issued one set of orders after 9/11/2001 and never issued another set...

Katerkat is he still activated? If so then he should have some sort of military ID which should work fine. I know the activated reserves with me have IDs

Yep, he's still activated. I didn't know they get IDs, so that's good. I just didn't know how often they get orders showing that they're still active.

Also, he will keep getting amendments for his orders as long as they keep him activated. It should not be an issue, but he would probably want to contact WDW to find out for sure!!
