A friend of mine and her family would like to go to DW this year and I am trying to help them get a little bit of info. They would qualify for the military discount, but I don't see anywhere on the Disney World site to put in the codes to check prices. Would I have to call DW to find this out or is there another place I can put the codes in online and check prices. I am just trying to crunch some numbers for them, but I need help!!

TIA!

There is a detailed discussion or 2 over at the Theme Parks Attractions/Strategies

The short answer is that you have to call WDW to price out various resort prices

Hopefully you guys know that the military member may get a 5 day free pass and can buy up to 5 companion tix for 99-149 depending on options.

Also.............don't forget to consider Shades of Green.

I am sure someone else will chime in with the official info, but it is my understanding that the discount is 40% off of the rack rate, then just add on the cost of the dining plan. So, (again if i am correct), as long as you know the rack rate cost of the room (found on the WDW website) and then the flat rate cost of the dining plan, crunching the numbers should be pretty easy as long as you remember to calculate tax.

You can figure out the room rates for the Military discount on the WDW website by using the room only option and just getting a price for the room only once you do this you take 40% off the total price of just the room and u would have what the room cost for there stay.

If they want to add the dinning plan they can but it is at no discount . The code to add Quick service Dinning is EAN and the code to add Basic dinning is FNB. If you want prices to figure out what the dinning is per person per day I know it's $39.99 per adult and $10.99 per kids (ages 3-9) not sure what the quick services prices are .

For Tickets they get a 5 day pass w/ park hooper & water parks & more for the active duty family member for free . Then they can add up to 5 other tickets at $99 for 5 day pass then add another $25 for park hopper and another $25 for the Water Park & more . So for the companion tickets if you want the whole package ticket it would be $150 per person.

We are military and to find out trip prices for us I took the room only price took 40% off it . Then figure out what my dinning would be added on and added that to the room only price . Then you figure out your ticket price add it to the other two and you have your trip price.

The only thing you purchase through Disney is your room & dinning . You buy the tickets from the base they live on so that way that don't pay tax on them.

Oh one other thing I'm pretty sure you can't stay at shades of green for this offer as it's already discounted prices and they don't participate in the dinning plan .

Hope all this info. helps you out to plan that trip for your friends family :goodvibes

Go to your MWR office... they will help you with all arrangements and even compare discounts for you.

Thanks for all the input. They are a retired family so they do not live on or near a base and I have no idea what a MWR is :) . I am going to do what was suggested and figure the room only and then add the dining. Yeah, they are planning on getting the discount tickets for military families. I just so want them to have a magical time. After I get some numbers I will have them call DW to confirm the prices.

Does anyone know off the top of their head what the % of tax I should add?

Once again, thanks.

if they qualify for Shades of Green then there is NO room tax. That's a bargain in and of itself. But even still, the rooms are tiered pricing depending on rank (or other factors) and the standard room rate for the highest tier is only $125. Besides that, you are getting one of the largest rooms on Disney property .

The tax rate for commercial resorts/hotels is about 12 percent. Although SOG already is discounted (not eligible for 40 % off), the published price is the price of the room. There is a 5 dollar parking fee per day to park in their parking deck.

Can anyone give me any details about SOG? Does Magical Express pick up for SOG? What about bus transportation while at the resort--does SOG have the buses that take you to/from the parks or would they need to rent a car? Do you feel like you are part of the Disney magic?

Thanks!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1678104 Here is the official thread for SOG. You can post future questions there.

No magical express. You will have to supply your own transportation to SOG and back to the airport.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1678104&page=123 Post 1844 has a link to the bus schedule. Yes, there are SOG buses that take you to all parks but Epcot and MK. You can also walk across the street to Poly to use the monorail and also use WDW buses as backup.

Many of us feel there is enough Disney magic there because we are on property. We all don't need princess curtains and Mickey bedspreads to feel magic. Really depends on what you mean by Disney magic. The hotel is not much different than Poly in decor, if that is what you mean. It is definitely NOT Pop Century. The place is super quiet and everyone is friendly.

There is much reading on the official SOG thread.

Though you may/may not see it at the SoG thread, SoG guests have access to all forms of WDW transporation while staying at the resort (sorry, no Magical Express to/from Orlando Int'l) -- guests also have access to many amenties exlusive to those to stay at WDW resorts (Extended Magic Hours, free package delivery to resort...).

As for "the magic", it's not as pervasive as the Disney O&O resorts on property, but you'll find the magic to be most definitely there!

"MWR" is the base office that sells tickets and trips like white water rafting or horseback riding. They can buy tickets there, or in theory call a base and have them sent, but then they pay postage.

Or, when they get to Disney, go to Shades of Green and buy the tickets there to avoid paying tax on the family tickets (if you buy them at the gate you have to pay tax). This can be a pain because then you have to take your voucher from Shades and go to the front gate and get the tickts, but tax is pretty expensive, times 5 tickets.

We always buy our tickets at Shades to save the taxes. They also have big brunch/breakfast spread that isn't too expensive.

I thank everyone so much for all of their help.

I know they will have a great time no matter where they stay--I mean it's a vacation at DW. What else could anyone want???;)

The resort tax in Orange Co is 12.5%. In Osceola Co the resort tax is 13%.

I love SoG and we have always stayed there in the past. But with the 40% room discount Disney is offering, I decided to check into staying at a Disney Resort this trip.

I called Disney resort reservations yesterday and ended up spending 45 minutes on the phone with a very helpful agent. We made a reservation for POR. The cost, including the room discount and tax, will actually be the same as if we had stayed at SoG. But it will be nice to try something different, as I love the atmosphere at POR. (I won't miss coming back to those really, really long hallways at SoG after a long day in the parks. We always seemed to get a room at the far end of the hall in the new building).

We are also going to give the DDP a try, which we have never been eligible for in the past staying at SoG. I'll miss SoG a bit but thanks to the military discount, we look forward to some new experiences at Disney!
