Military discounted tickets- Against the law to copy ID

Has anyone run into this? Shades of Green wants a copy of my DD's military ID along witht he completed form to process tickets for MNSSHP.

My DD states it is against rules (Although she is checking with Command on Monday).

A quick Google search truns this up:

https://www.army.mil/article/28452/photocopying_military_cac_ids_a_violation_of_federal_law

Violation of Federal Law.

What are we missing?
I had no idea if it's technically against the law or not, but we're military and get copies of ids done all the time. I cannot imagine she's never had hers copied. If she's ever gone to an ER, or urgent care, dentist, doctor etc. they've all taken a copy of her id, as that's what they use for the insurance card. If you every use it to register a kid for school, it'll be copied then too. I think she's really being way too worried about it and like I said I'm sure has had her Id copied before unless she's super new to the military id. You'll have no problem sending SOG a copy.

She has been in for 5 years. Government and insurance are legitimate exceptions. Commercial appears not to be.

Recent incidents have been reported regarding the photocopying of military identification cards and common access cards by commercial establishments to verify military affiliation to provide government rates for services. The photocopying of U.S. Government identification cards is a violation of Title 18, U.S. Code Part I, Chapter 33, Section 701 and punishable by fine and imprisonment.

"This prohibition, however, does not apply to government agencies," said Robert Krauer, director of Aberdeen Proving Ground Emergency Services. "Police can make copies for official purposes."

To fend off further questions. I received this a few (actually 50 - replied before checking email) moments ago from Shades of Green via an email. I think the language is odd because Disney is clearly not a government entity. Top filled out. She will show her ID when we pick up the tickets. THAT makes sense. Previous email requested a copy of ID

It is allowed at government agencies but as long as the top portion of the form is filled out correctly we do not need it.

When we travel to Mexico (we do very often lately; 3 times the last 6 months), the resort takes our passport and makes a copy. This has always been done.

I don't see the big deal.

PASSPORT not Military ID. The law is clear. A quick search around internet found other Disney sites also advising against making a copy because it is against the FEDERAL LAW.

Her daughter is correct. I worked for a flight school & we offered a military discount & we were made well aware never to copy a military id. We had a separate form to record that we had verified the relevant info then verified the actual id visually when they arrived.

Thanks for the back-up!

Because of my own job, I should have known better than to ask her - we all lose our heads sometimes when thinking Disney. Disney does not 'out rank' the United States Army.

Shades of Green was quick to recant. Like anything else WDW - the CM may or may not know the rules.

They can ask to see the ID for validation against the order when she picks-up or uses the tickets.

But...she isn’t buying the tickets from Disney. She’s buying them from SOG. Which states “There are strict, federally mandated laws regarding eligibility.“ Their site states that they even have an exchange on property.

To get a job there you look and apply through https://www.usajobs.gov/ which is a govt site from what I can see. And the page linking to that site specifically discusses Department of the Army.

So they are beyond just a resort. This isn’t just Disney.

Shades of Green sent an email after my request- no copy required. They, of course, can ask to see the ID but they cannot ask for a copy to be emailed - especially and unless it is secure email (encrypted) but nonetheless, they cannot ask for the copy. All they can do is verify upon arrival.

EXCITED about the Exchange - I will tell her. Thank you.

Shades of Green is a military owned and operated resort located right on Walt Disney World property. It is one of the worldwide Armed Forces Recreation Centers.
