My husband is not active military but he is a civilian for the department of defense and we do qualify to stay at Shades of Green at WDW do we also qualify for a discount on the cruise?
thanks

I cannot say with 100% certainty - but I am fairly confident. As a recently retired reservist, i know taht we were not eligible for the discounted rates. It is my understanding that they hold those for active duty or activated guard / reserve forces. Further, I believe they keep pretty close tabs to make sure that only those who are eligible get to use them. I would suggest calling DCL or a travel agent to be sure. Good luck - after our first cruise over this past New Year's Eve (7 day Eastern) I can say that it is well worth saving up - it was a BLAST and all First Class!!!

Sadly....No. My husband was active duty and is now Retired. We asked during both times and no discount is available to the military.

I hope Disney does change this policy, because there will be a lot of folks coming home from the Middle East that should get a break! After Desert Storm, many travel and leisure companies offered discounts to active troops. Some offers were only good for a couple of years, but I think it is a nice way to say THANK YOU.

My husband and I took advantage of those offers back then!

Oh, if you qualify for SOG, you will LOVE staying there. I am gong for my fourth time there this summer. They have done a major remodel, almost doubling the size of the resort. The location is SO worth it! You can also get discounted tickets to the park...so buy them there!

Hi,
My DH is active duty AF and we got a nice military discount on our cruise last year...Disney had the discount for all of the parks also, but that program ended 12/19/03. I have noticed that allseastravel still has a military discount through April of this year.
I don't know if that applies to DoD civilians or retired though...I think the military hotels are different, we're staying at the Hale Koa in March/April and like SOG that has a fairly extensive list of people eligible to stay.

We traveled in May 2003 and saved $1700 on the 3 of us. My husband is active duty and I was warned we would have to show ad military id to get an the ship. I booked for next year without the discount but, was told by DCL that more discounts would come later in the year.

I certainly hope DCL revisits and resumes the discount for retired and active duty military. I for one would pay more for my cruise if I knew that the extra went to defer DCL's cost of the military discounts.

God Bless our service men and women!

That stinks if Disney doesn't offer discounts after April. My BIL has been in Iraq for almost a year and is counting on going to WDW with his wife and kids when he returns. Why would they stop the discount when a lot of people who were there a LONG time are just coming back?

gosh I know how you feel my husband is active duty and we havent lived together in two years due to all the stuff going on we will finaly be back together this year in march and planned on family get away on a cruise and we were hoping to get a deal or break on the price, I sure hope they bring it back my hubby is enlisted so we dont make too much money LOL

Although it is very nice for anyone to give a military discount, it is often an underadvertised or non-advertised one, so you must always ask!

Rock'n Robin - I think if you write a letter to Disney about this, they MAY take it under special/individual consideration. Again, it never hurts to ask!

Even though DH and I are prior service (retired and DAV), we always appreciate the sacrificies made by the military families. It was never easy for us to be away from our loved ones for long periods of time, but the friendships we made while away were treasured.

I wish that every company/business would offer something to the service member and their family - it's a nice gesture and a TAX WRITEOFF for them!

It is extremely rare for DCL to advertise discounts for Military and their families. We have sailed twice and received a discount both times. My husband is a reservist and all we had to do was show his activation orders. I would also like to say that both times, there were no public notices of Military discounts. I think that Disney will soon offer more discounts as more and more military personnel are coming home. At least I hope anyway. DCL did state that if you were deployed during the entire time the offer ran, all you have to do is show your deployment orders and they would still give you the offer. It is definitely worth a try!!

Good luck and God Bless.
