Military Discount Question

Roughly when do military discounts get announced for the next year? We usually go in May, and want to book at least 6 months out.

We did book 6 months out last year, but the resort we wanted was already booked for the military package. Anyone know how early we can book and still get the military rate?

I believe the salute was fully renewed late July last year. Military Disney tips should have that answer if you hop over there

So far only valid until end of 2015.

My guess is that they will announce 2016 in late October but that's just a guess. We booked rooms for December this year right after the current program was extended and we had to book two reservations because one of the days was not available with the discount. Oh well.

BTW it is not a given that Disney will continue the program either. They may decide not to, but I don't think they will discontinue it.

This year has been the first they haven't renewed for the full years so its really just a guess as to what will happen for next year now.

I wouldn't guarantee that there will even be a discount next year. Its likely, but not set in stone. The fact that they extended it until the end of the year, rather than renew it for a full year, has me worried that they are either making huge changes to the discount, or discontinuing it entirely for 2016.

A certain poster named Steve? announced the discount extension on the disBoards about 2 wks ago. Either he posted his own info or he linked to info that said the renewal was being moved to a Calendar year start (Jan 1st) because there had been too little time for ppl to get their military tix from their Base and get FP+ booked at 60 days when the new discounts were announced in July and the new tix started approx Oct 1st. Following that line of reasoning, nothing would be improved if the discounts started Jan 1st and the announcement came in Oct. My best hope is that the 2016 discount program is announced in July, as previous, and the 2016 cycle begins in Jan, so there's time for everybody involved to coordinate tix, reservations, FP+, etc.

Do you mind if I ask what you base your guess on? That just seems really late for planning an early 2016 trip, and I haven't seen that information anywhere else. Just wondering if you have an "inside source" or something! Most sites I can find speculate about an announcement pretty much any day now.

We have not used the program in quite a few years, but we are considering a mid-January trip. Would it be possible to book a resort now, and apply the military discount to that booking if and when it is released? Or would that not offer any advantage since the military discount rooms are limited?

Yep, I had seen that, but thanks for sharing! That's one of the reasons I asked what the PP based his late October guess on. I hope Steve is right -- and my bet is on him!

If you're going with or without the military discount, I would go ahead and book the resort you want now. Military discount rooms are limited, so if the discount becomes available, you may have to cancel that package and book another one, and you may have to be flexible in your resort of choice.
