Military discount for hotel?

My friend is active military and we are going with him and his family on a trip in Nov. Right now there are already good deals for on site hotels through the Disney's website. When my friend tried booking, he was "only" able to get an additional 7% off but the CM said to keep trying - basically that prices could change anytime and he was basically at the mercy at whatever number the computer would spit out. Usually military discount for hotel is 40% off -but maybe that is only off full rack rate? Anyone have experience on this? Thanks in advance!

I think you may be confusing the parks...Shades of Green is only at WDW. Disneyland has nothing like that.

Most locations give discounts off their rack rate. There are times they may offer an great deal, and no further discount will be available. And there are times when they have sold out of the military (or other discount) rate. Few places will offer a discount of 30% off rack rate to everyone, then offer an additional 40% off to another group.

We had originally booked an AP rate, but found the Military rate was 5% less. So, it was a better rate for Military, but not by much.
