My husband has a Department of Defense badge. He works for the Navy. Can he use the Military discounts? Thanks!

We have be able to get the military discount as a DOD civilian. After you make your reservation they will have you fax a copy of your DOD ID to DCL for verification prior to payment.

Your best bet is to always ask disney. In your statement, you say that your husband has a badge but that does not qualify wheather he is a contractor or a civilian who is employed by the Department of Defense. If he has a CAC card, I would think that Disney under their rules would offer the discount. But I am not sure Contract Employees qualify and your question should be asked to a Disney Cruise Line CM.

I have emailed Disney and am waiting for an answer. He is a civillian (Federal employee) with a CAC card. I thought someone may know the answer. Thanks for your help!

OP, you would get a better and faster response if you call DCL reservations or check DCL's website to see if they have the info listed there.

Are you close to an active duty Navy installation? You could stop by the MWR or Family Resource Center (or whatever it's called in the Navy). A lot of times they have information about discounts available to service members AND DOD civilians. Here at Ft. Campbell, the travel agency here on post has discounts available for both Soldiers and DOD civilians, although they are categorized differently when reservations are made.

I am a civilian and sailed with the military discount in Nov. It seems like every time I called I got a different answer, and had a hard time finding the guidelines in writing. Several CMs in reservations told me no...I finally got a call back from a manager approving my CAC that I faxed, and I kept the voice mail message on my phone because I was so nervous that when I got to check-in, they would tell me I didn't qualify. But I didn't have any issues at all at the terminal.

I never thought about DoD civilians qualifying for the military discount before but looking at this explanation on who qualifies I do not see why you would not fit into that category:

Active or Retired US Armed Forces personnel that meet the following will now qualify for the Military Offer:

* Air Force, Marines, Army (including Army National Guard), Navy, Coast Guard
* Reservists (for all branches listed above)
* Department of Defense, which includes:
o FBI
o CIA
o National Security Agency
o Secret Service
* Family members classified as "active deceased"
* NASA Kennedy Space Center
* NASA Johnson Space Center
* Department of Health and Human Services
* 100% permanently disabled

This offer is limited to 3 staterooms per qualifying Military Personnel. The qualifying individual must sail in one of the rooms. Military personnel must provide a copy of their military ID prior to sailing.

now does the discount for every cruise? i was under the impression only certain cruises you could submit for the discount??

Discounts are only available on certain sailings. You can always input the code MTO on DCL's website to see if the discount is available for a sailing you are interested in.

I think what confuses some CMs in the reservation department is that they think the words above "which includes" means "only these departments". Mine (Department of Defense - Army civilian) is not listed, but was included. That's why I felt it important to get someone in a management position to verify that I was eligible. Even the travel agent (Small World) insisted that since DoD - Army was not specifically listed, I wasn't eligible.

For your own peace of mind, just have someone verify it for you.

That is true, it does not matter how anyone on this board interprets this rule unless they are the cast member on the other end of the line.

I recently retired from the AF and my CAC said Department of the Air Force the same as my deputy who was an Air Force Civilian. DoD Contractors are different since their CAC is only used as an authenticator and does not authorize them any privileges that the AD/civilian CAC does.

Hopefully the OP gets the correct answer.

So who did you talk to at Disney that finally understood? We are having the same problem......they keep saying my husband isnt eligible because he isnt CIA, FBI etc, but those agencies are NOT Department of Defense agencies. They dont seem to realize that and it is getting frustrating. Any suggestions?

I made the reservation with the "MTO" discount code and then faxed a copy of my CAC card. I wish I had the fax number for you - but I'm not seeing it right now. Anyway, I called back to verify that they received the fax. It was kind of like that was then end of it, and I was left worrying that I would get there and they would tell me I owed a lot more money! So I requested that they call me back after reviewing my card to ensure I was eligible for the military rate. I believe it was Jennifer that called me back, and she was a supervisor. She left a message on my cell phone voicemail that I was eligible. Just to be sure, I saved the message in case I had any issues at the terminal. I did not have any issues at all. Good luck!

LauraWS, I think you must have talked to the very same reservations agents that I did! Pretty frustrating, huh?;)

True - FBI and CIA are not Department of Defense agencies - FBI is part of the Department of Justice and CIA is its own agency. Secret Service was Treasury, now it's DHS.

Department of Health and Human Services? How did that get in there?

First and foremost, thank you to your husband and anyone who works for the Department of Defense, Navy, Army, and every part of the Military! Thank you for keeping us safe and secure which includes our cruise ships and international waters as well.

As for your question, I believe the discount only applies to certain dates and cruises. You can go on the DCL website and look under specials. There it will show you the discounts that they offer and for when. If the dates are not included call Disney and ask!

Once again thank you and God Bless!
