I have NO clue about any of this but I'm tryin to thing of ways to get the price lower for a friend. She was in the Reserves, can she still get the military discount or is that a whole other thing? She is out now, so if she did qualify...does she still she isn't in it anymore?

TIA

She can only get a military discount if she is retired from the Reserves -- served at least 20 years and has some type of military ID. If she served less than 20 years and has no Reserve benefits, then no, she is not eligible. A current, valid military ID is required.

This information is only partially correct-reservists do qualify-or did as of last year-i had several friends who used it-the offer specifys that you must have orders for active duty in the calendar year you are buying the tickets-annual training orders for reservists met the requirement. So any currently serving reservist who has been on orders for Deployment, a school or annual training qualifies. As the PP stated she does need a current valid military ID-which all drilling reservists as well as retired reservists and their family members should have. If she got out of the reserve component without retiring and no longer has an ID card of any kind then no she does not qualify.

Unfortunately, no.

As she was a former member of the reserves, that would make her a veteran, of which none of the Disney discounts apply...

I was tailoring my response to the OP. Yes, active Reservists do qualify, but she specifically said that her friend was not in the Reserves any longer. And while the official offer from Disney last year did state a Reservist had to show active-duty orders, that requirement was dropped sometime during the year. My husband is a Reservist and was never required to show any type of orders, and we twice got Military Salute tickets and also got MVMCP tickets with the military discount. Military IDs are no longer differentiated as Reservists or Active Duty - they all use CAC cards and list "United States Army" as the branch. Just by looking at it, you can't tell he's a Reservist. I'm sure it will be the same this year; basically, any actively-serving military member will be eligible for the tickets.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in the TPA&S Forum, especially Post #17, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature.

Actually your best bet would be to check information on your own...

People seem so jumpy when it comes to discounts.

I would check with the following:

Your local VA they do make special offers occasionally

AFVC

I saw some kind of discount at Swan Dolphin once

and definitely contact Shades of Green they will know best what you can and cannot qualify for because there sales office is part of military vacation club.

If all else fails keep up with the boards and sign up for everything disney.com related you should see discount codes coming your way soon enough or at least deals that are being offered online.

Good luck

Another sure answer is to contact your tickets and tours office. They will know one way or another. Good luck!

The easiest way to tell is does she have an id card that allows her on post, can she currently stay at shades of green or buy tickets at mwr or ITT? If no, the answer is no. If yes, the answer could be either.
