Miley Cyrus celebrating b-day in CA Oct.5

I dont get why people are upset about it closing early? DCA will be open until 11. I think some people get so over-planned and scheduled they can't handle the change. Its not a big deal - its a vacation - just go with the flow. Go to DTD and shop for a bit, maybe see a movie? Go to the block at orange and look around - its fun there. Its really not THAT big of a deal.

Lollipops Mom- because people are spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on this trip. Some families can only make it out once every couple of years (us). What if it was YOUR last day in the park and you were only going for two days in the first place? I'd be ticked if I was losing seven hours (plus opportunities to see fireworks, shows, etc) and I'd still be PAYING for a full day! Those tickets arent cheap....and yaya, DCA is open later. Most people arent going for DCA. Most people arent going for DTD (I never go there, why would I?! I can visit every one of those stores at the mall back home). They are going for Disneyland.

Its not even dark by 5pm....thats not even late enough to eat dinner before you go! And if you're like us, with little kids, you can't stay at the park for 10 straight hours, you have to go back to the hotel for naps, and then there goes your whole day. It wouldnt even be worth it to go back to the park after you leave for naps. Now all of a sudden you've lost pretty much the entire day (but are still paying full price).

Miley or not, I'd be ticked whatever the event was.

Personally I wouldn't be upset if we're to stay there for more than a day and a half. DH will literally have 12 hours in the park with this new schedule. And won't have any fireworks or fantasmic or dinner in the park because of this.
That's why I am upset.
If we had the chance to stay for days (min 3 days) on property that would be different. 7 hours we can juggle around. But with less than a day and a half during a gay day crowd, how do you juggle that efficiently? We've pretty much lost 1/3 of our park time because of their schedule change.

1/3 of your vacation time means if you are to be there for 3 days, you would lose a whole day of vacation because disney closed the whole park. Would you be ok with that?

Anyways, just explaining my predicament. Not asking for validation... :flower3:

Not only that.... Her real birthday is not until November 23rd. Jumping the gun just a little eh? 50 days early in fact! :lmao:
And I'd be willing to bet she can get a birthday button! :rotfl: (sorry, couldn't resist :goodvibes )
:lmao: Sorry, but I just started reading this thread and that's what I was thinking! I guess no one on the DIS or anywhere else, should worry about celebrating a b-day too early or not on the exact day again. If she can do it 50 days early so can we. :rotfl:

anywho, what was really mean was when miley and her older friend made fun of demi lovato and selena gomez' youtube video. that was totally uncool.
I didn't see it but I read about it. It was mean and very immature but that's high schoolers for you I guess. Unfortunately.
I do think she should have used better judgement though since she knows she's not your typical high schooler or teenager.

Dear Park Guest,

Here at Disney money is our number one priority. We will do what we want when we want to do it and nothing you can say will change that. You will continue to visit our parks and buy our merchandise.

We apologize for the short notice on the Miley Cyrus event. Our large events are usually arranged months in advance and this one is no different. Get off your high horse for a moment and consider the impact of this event on us. If we had announced this several months ago when we were hiring staff, designing marketing materials and negotiating labor rates with our union staff, imagine the impact this would have had on ticket sales and reservations. Our park could have potentially been empty on this day due to the early closing. We got burned with the Pirates of the Caribbean premiers and are not about to lose money on something like that again.

We can afford to tick you off because there are millions (yes millions) out there that either don't know about this event or don't care and will still come to see us on this day.

We're Disney. We don't have to care.

Sincerely,
Disneyland Public Relations

PS: Thanks for the cash. We'd like some more. Please visit one of our Disney stores in a mall near you. They will never close early.
:rotfl: That's funny. And the first paragraph is so true. Disney is a business and they are all about the money, but at the same time I will continue to visit their parks and buy their merchandise.

I don't understand why people on here are bashing or defending MC AND throwing out remarks at other DIS members. It's kinda sucky IMO.

It was my understanding that myself and other DIS members were upset at the EVENT and at DL, not at MC herself.

Miley or not, I'd be ticked whatever the event was.

Said perfectly.

I can definitely see where everyone is coming from. The thing about MC is that she has done some potentially "shameful" things but at the same time, she has inspired many many children. The topic with her is that every person and parent has different guide lines. Different ideologies that will make their opinion on any one thing or person change compared to the next person. One person may be okay with Miley's racy internet photos whereas the next person may not.

I do think that this is a great debate and I respect everyone's opinions on the situation and on MC.

I just had to say I'm sorry. That does suck and I'd be upset too if I were you. :guilty:

If you are going for 2 days - then switch them up -do DL on Sat and DCA on Sunday - problem solved. Also, they are opening early now - so if you get there at 8am (is that right?) and stay until 5pm - thats a LONG day in the park and you will probably be exhausted by then anyway.

I agree Djibouti. If we should be upset with anyone, it shoud be Disney. I'm sure Miley really had no say on what day she wanted, Disney did. And they knew months ahead, but like Djibouti said, they didn't want to release the day of the event ahead of time knowing people won't go that day except for locals with APs.

Honestly, since Miley being a role model came up. She's 15. She knows she has fans that are as young as 5 and honestly, 5 years old shouldn't even have to know that she's posting pictures of herself half naked on the internet or what she does outside of Hannah Montana and Disney. 5 year olds don't read TMZ.

I'm going to be there that weekend, and yeah it sucks that Disneyland is closing early, but how come no one makes a big deal that DCA is closing early for the Halloween parties? Yeah DCA isn't as great as DL, I know, but it's still a park ticket that people paid for. I would be upset too if I had bought a PH for that weekend, but what can you do. Disney does state their park hours and subject to change and you can't do anything about it. Just enjoy the time you are going to have when the park is open..

Personally, I'd rather spend 7 extra hours at Disneyland than go to a movie (which I can do in my hometown) or go to a mall (The Block is just a mall, afterall.)

Unfortunately we'll only be there Sunday and 4hours on monday before we have to fly home.
So our sunday is cut short... :(

I guess I wasn't mad about DCA closing early everytime because it's expected (per their posted schedule). If they had posted that DCA would be closing at noon instead of 7pm I'd be as upset too.

I just had to say I'm sorry. That does suck and I'd be upset too if I were you. :guilty:

Thank you...

Anyways... it's done... nothing I can do. I'm moving on... :thumbsup2

If you had the money/power to close Disneyland early for your own birthday party, wouldn't you do it? Or would you complain about how everyone else has to go to California Adventure, because you wanted Disneyland to yourself? I don't know about you, but I'd prefer to have Disneyland to myself for a night. It's not like there's not another park RIGHT there. Do Disneyland all morning/afternoon and hit up DCA after that. If you're expecting a perfect trip, then you're going to be disappointed. At least Disney let everyone know ahead of time, instead of being like "oh by the way..." on the day of the event.

kaoden39, pointed out this Trip report on another thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1872155
Now THAT'S a reason to be ticked off.

Miley is in a seriously f'd up industry, you can't put all the blame on her. If you think that Demi and Selena wont be like Miley in a few years, you'll probably be disappointed. Demi and Selena are very new to the scene, Miley has a few years on them. Yes, she is young, but really, welcome to young Hollywood. Lindsay Lohan use to be considered a "good girl" now look at her and she got her start through Disney.

I am sorry that this has messed up plans for some of you. It's just a bump in the road. Go to Disneyland and have fun! Don't let a 15 year old that's controlled by Disney ruin your time!

Don't forget, Disney is still doing MAJOR damage control for Miley's image and that probably fueled this whole thing in the first place!

Wendy, ty ty some one who understands. you put it all up in a neat little bow.

First off, that price is RIDICULOUS and I dont care if its for charity. A show for KIDS shouldnt be more than $50 a piece.

Second off, I do NOT like that girl...she is so trashy. I would rather die than let my daughter watch her show. We dont even watch it at home on tv. No Miley allowed in our house!!!

Third off, I can't believe they plan something like that with such short notice....what about all of us who had trips planned then!!! Now there is going to be this big fall-out crowd on Monday of those who decide to stay an extra day instead of going home on Sunday. GRRRRRRRRRR.

I'm just glad I hadnt decided to go Sunday/Monday...I would have been P****ED.

1st: Price is NOT ridiculous because it is for a charity to support kids. There is a charity event for autism a few days prior and tickets are $500...is that ridiculous? $250 to attend DL for a private charity event is pretty affordable.

2nd: DL is private property and operating hours are subject to change. There's a disclaimer on the bottom of the park hours page stating "information is subject to change without notice".

At least the public has the option to purchase tickets and at least this isn't a "private party" where no one else can attend.

When I said "bad influence" I was referring to the photos she took, NOT the Vanity Fair spread. Maybe my high school was just different, but we did not have a single girl (or guy for that matter) who was pregnant, or a parent. Not saying everyone was perfect, but there were no pregnancies in my graduating class.

Taking those types of photos when I was in high school is the last thing I would have ever done. Evidentally my group was "not the norm" but we just weren't very lewd.:confused3

So, yes, I think the photos SHE took on her own were very inappropriate for her age.

Not sure where you went to High School but 20 years ago we had several teenage pregnancies in our graduating class and our school even had an onsite daycare!!!!

There is nothing mean about it. This girl is failing as a role model.

Have you not seen the myspace pics and the delightfully suggestive pelvic thrusts she was doing on American Idol? Those are at least two things she chose to do on her own.

You can't compare her to any rapper. Their message of being a thug and spending money is hardly marketed to children like Miley is. I don't ever recall seeing Dr. Dre on a lunch box or backpack.

Miley wants to pretend she's a grown up but as long as she's on Disney's umbilical cord she needs to act her age and give those young girls that buy her products somebody responsible to look up to. If she can't do that then she needs take a break until she's old enough to skank it up.

It's sad that in this day and age we equate accomplishment to not getting pregnant, entering rehab before completely hitting rock bottom, and staying out of prison. What's next? Praise for not being drunk in public?

Didn't Elvis invent the pelvic thrust?

That is the first time I've ever heard somebody refer to The Block as fun. Am I the only person that misses The City Mall? Seriously it was okay when it first opened but now it's kind of dirty.

It wouldn't be ridiculous if 100% of the profits went to charity. A big chunk of your $250 goes to pay for sound and lighting engineers, musicians and dancers, promotion, and the list goes on. I'm curious as to how much is actually going to charity.
