Another question - sorry.

I'm going to do my very best, to try and get M+M flights for our 2012 trip in August - I know, it's going to be very hard, but I'm going to see what's available exactly 11 months to our return day. My question is: if we get them, and it's likely that we can only afford economny at this stage, can we later upgrade them to PE?

At 11 months I will almost guarantee you won't get M&M, they know they don't need to offer them so early, many people like to book when released and VA know that so they don't offer M&M. Last time I booked M&M economy for August I had to wait until Xmas Day before they were released.

As for upgrading, possible but very expensive, if I have this correct you need to upgrade your M&M 1st to a different code then pay for the upgrade to PE. I tried one year because people were getting really good prices to upgrade (£69, £79 etc) I rang and the cheapest they could offer was £900 1 way for 3 of us.

I got M+M flights for this august when I booked in febuary but I do have to fly into miami there where no flights avalaible to fly into Orlando . I think we paid £610 each

They should be cheaper 11 months out as thats when all the cheaper fare codes go on sale. Miles and money do go on sale q
11 months out but onky a certain amount are released for each flight, same with full reward seats, only a few each flight.

To upgrade from economy tp pe you have to have a certain fare code and not one of the cheaper ones as these are not upgradable, when you book the flights either on the phone or over the net you will be told the fare conditions and these included if they can be upgraded or not

Since last post on upgrading I know at least 3 people that have been offered upgrades from M&M economy this month, I think if they have empty PE and it suits them it doesn't matter what the rules are. Rates being offered have been between £149-£179pp one way.

Hi, I booked m&m flights for Sunday 7th August 11 in Nov 2010. I had been checking almost daily from 11 months out and they came out in Nov and didn't last long. I paid £1970 for 2 adults and 1 child, so around £670 per person. You can't use miles then to upgrade to PE and to do it cash means as said by someone already you would need to upgrade your m&m seat and then pay the PE supplement.

However they phoned me on Tuesday and asked if I was interested in upgrading to PE for £299 each return. I believe this is because they are overbooked in economy and need people to move to PE. I think if this price had been available when I booked I might have considered but now adding £900 to our holiday doesn't seem so great.

Sorry to hijack your thread but a related question.

Whats the difference between M&M and Miles only (apart from Miles used and money spent), do they have advantages/disadvantages?

I was offered £299 return, or £149 out / £179 back.

Don't supose you heard of anyone bargaining the price down anymore or being offered cheaper Upper class upgrades?

Miles and Money only cost 2,000 miles for return economy fare, you then get a discount off the fare, this varies with time of year.

Miles only to MCO costs 30,000 miles just now but you still have to pay taxes & fees GBP 257.20. (MAN~MCO economy)

With the higher cost of taxes & fees the Miles only offers are less appealing these days, unless you can get them in peak travel periods then they are still worth booking.

I would think its take it or leave it with Virgin, they are not known to haggle much. Not seen anyone being offered Upper.

There are some really lucky people out there!!!

Thanks! So, are M and M flights normally the cheaper un upgradable flights?

I notice that M+M fares have been available for most days as soon as flights go on sale for June 2012.

I thought this might be a sign that bookings are down and so it might continue into August 2012 and the school holidays.

Do you think this will be the case or do you think the M=M fares will disappear once school holiday dates are available to book?

June is low season, August totally different, all you can do is wait and see but I won't hold my breath.
