MIL comments on Mother's Day gift

Just got to share the comment my MIL made on her gift for mother's day. I do love my MIL however she has absolutley no tact what so ever. We went to see her last night to give her a mother's day gift - the kids picked out a really nice candle with a floral scent. MIL opens the candle , smells it and says.................

"Mmmmm smells like a funeral home"

What the H---? :confused3

I about choked on my drink at that point. I said well that is not the scent we were going for. I really do not understand some of the things that come out that woman's mouth. :rotfl2:

I know that I'm in a new relationship, but if all goes well I'm not looking forward to situations like this.

I wish you luck with that one Jason - hopefully you'll get great inlaws. DH use to tell me that he wanted us to get married BEFORE I met his family - :rotfl2:

Sounds like something that my happen with my in-laws. Honestly, I don't think people make those sorts of comments because they are hateful; they just don't know any different.

Which set. Her parents are remarried so If everything goes well, down the line (long line) I will have two sets of in-laws.

I wish I could share some stories but I wasn't smart enough to pick an anonymous name when I joined up. Someone out there might recognize me.
But lets just say our mothers day party yesterday was like weekend at bernies but the guest of honor was still alive.

Sorry, but I just had to laugh!

My mother made a comment this morning along the same "funeral home" idea. She had knee replacement surgery last Thursday, and this morning I drove to the hospital to pick her up and take her to the place where she will be in rehab for a few days.

On the way there, she said- "You know where this place is, don't you? It's right next to that big cemetary. You'll be taking me there soon. At least it's convenient, being right next door."

I had to laugh because she's healthy as can be. The nurses couldn't believe how fast, and how well, she did with her recovery from knee surgery.

Her only concern this morning was that I get her to rehab in time for lunch! :rotfl2:

So sorry this happened to your kids. How did they react? I'm sure they were pretty hurt or started crying...I know I would if Grandma was a grouch.

That is how she is, comments just seem to fly out before she actually thinks about it :rotfl2:

At family gatherings SIL and I just grab a glass of wine and sit back and enjoy the entertainment. I have to laugh about it because if I didn't I would go nuts! :teeth:

Honestly it did not phase them at all ...... I think we are all just so use to the bazaar comments that she makes that we enjoy the entertainment value of it. I do have to remember to warn people though that are meeting her for the first time. I've seen her leave many people speechless :teeth:
