MIL buying in...Points available?

My mother is law is finally looking into buying points. I have been reminding her for a long long time what a great offering DVC it is and if finally sank in

She mentioned something about the DVC rep telling her that if she bought now she would get 2002 points. Does this sound correct? Also, if she bought 150 and did not sell any back towards her down payment, how many would she potentially have available for a 04’ cruise, taking into account banking borrowing and so forth? I’m not sure what her use year month will be. My brain isn’t functioning correctly this weekend to figure it out correctly.

I believe they are still selling Dec 2002 points at BCV.

For a 2004 cruise, she could use Dec 2002, 2003 & 2004 points before Dec 1, 2004. So 150 x 3 = 450

Cruises tend to be cheaper using cash than points - tends to value at around $6.70-$6.95/point basis early cruise booking bonuses. There is a member of the boards rae519 who can tell you all about using points for cruises - she uses all her HH points for cruises (I believe).

Having said that if the cruise is what brings your MIL into DVC then I say all the power to her.

We just purchased Dec02 use year at BCV - we used the magical beginnings $10 off as part of down payment since we did not have plans to use DVC until Jan/04.

That’s great....so it sounds like she could have 450 points for a May 04' cruise. That will be a big help as I already used most of my 04' allotment for a cruise last year and a long weekend stay this coming August.
