Mike' Make Over Madness!

Nice work on the Ipod!!! It is great to budget so much and then find out that what you really owe is less!!!

Sounds like you had a heck of a day! Hopefully you will get to relax a little this weekend!!!

Keep up the good work Mike.....you are doing great!

Have a wonderful weekend! :maleficen

Thanks Jamie!! I can't wait to get my iPod!! Of course, I am equally if not more excited about the lime green carrying case! haha! :goodvibes

The thing I realized lately as I look at buying myself such fun toys is that I would not normally have had the money because it would have gone towards food!!! My grocery bill is about the same because sadly fresh veggies, fruits, meats, cheese, etc. cost more than the cheapy stuff like mac n cheese, cookies, and SODA! But when you factor in that I am not buying lunch out 4 times a week, and not ordering extra take out like pizzas... I have more money now! hehe! This feels great!!

Especially as I save for my next Dis trip! And my mom's 50th birthday is this week. She is across the country and I will not be able to see her on it but I think I have settled on a good gift(s). I am going to send her two dozen long stremmed roses with a card, a silver heart necklace from RedEnvelope that comes with "Mom, I love you" engraved in French on it, and maybe a Carrabas gift certificate because it is her fave place. what do you all think? Does that sound good?

I am going to start another new thread on WISH, called "WISH Iron Chef!". When stuck for meal ideas we can post what we have in house already and then people can reply with meal suggestions. I think it will be fun! We'll see if it takes off!!

As for me today, i am not feeling the hottest. My allergies are acting way up and I am doped up on antihistamines! hehe :goodvibes What is it with me getting under the weather on the weekends, blahhh!!!!

Hope that everyone is having a great day!

What a great gift - your mom will love it! It's amazing how much healthy foods cost isn't it?? :)

First of all............wanna adopt me? :teeth: I just love things from Red Envelope (although, I have to admit that I look alot more than I get).

Wow, if your mom is turning 50, you must not be too old. But then again, I feel like I am in a generational gap, as my DH will be 51 and is only 7 years younger than my parents (sounds weird, I know, but I am the oldest), so everyone seems young to me.

Great job on handling the boss lady. Maybe not as violent as ripping out her hair, but she probably got the message. It just makes it really hard on those trying to do their jobs right.

The WISH Iron Chef sounds pretty cool. Maybe, I can just have someone come up with my meals all the time. Hey, maybe someone will actually come cook for me all the time. Wouldn't that be great? Ok, maybe in a dream, but it sounds good. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Thanks for the thumbs up on the gift idea lillygator!
The prices for healthy food are amazing aren't they! I mean, lettuce even these days is up there!! I have been lucky catching the bagged salads on sale. I will say though too that now that I want every calorie be it protein, carb, fat or whatever to be quality (rather than quantity) the prices go up to. But it is worth it!! I bought a nice expensive wedge of gorgonzola cheese this week, so creamy and blue to use making a variation of my mushroom chicken from last week. Will be soo worth it though! The burgers I made last night were made with a higher quality ground beef too and I could truly taste the difference. They were the best burgers I have made in ages! (The excellent spice mix, Penzey's Southwest Spice, I used helped too!) But the $5 or so it cost me to get three meals worth of good beef is still worth it more than paying $1/ea for a sack of nasty McBurgers!!! :goodvibes

Have a great night!

Hi Lesli!!

* Sure I will adopt you Lesli!! But I won't cook all of your meals! hehehe! :rotfl2:

* Well I am not that young (I'm 32!) but I was, as my mom put it, her "excuse to get out of swimming during gym class her senior year of high school." LOL :flower:

* Glad you agree I handled my boss well. I expect that the situations from her flubs will continue to haunt us and I do not want the new boss starting Monday to think I am somehow responsible for someone else's actions. I don't want to sell her out per se but I will not accept "blame." :goodvibes

* If you want my leftovers tonight I am making a low carb recipe that I have read raves about on several websites, it is called "Deep Dish Pizza Quiche." Has a bottom "crust" and then you top it with pizza toppings. Looks sooo good!! hehe

Have a great night!
Mike :maleficen

I think I'd like that recipe for the Deep Dish Pizza Quiche Mike. If you could PM that I'd appreciate it. And if you have the nutritional value I'd like that too - or direct me to where I can find it. THANKS

Don't you LOVE Penzey's!!!!! I found them in MN when we went to visit my sister-in-law a few years ago and then found out there was one just 30 minutes from me - I was so excited!!!!!! The ones that I have found my favorite to be are:
Old World Seasoning (great on chicken or pork)
Trinidad Lemon Seasoning (great on chicken on the grill or in the oven)
Chicago Steak Seasoning
Beef Roast Seasoning (also good on pork)

Those are just a few of our favs!!!!

Keep up the good work and...
Keep on
Chris

Chris -- (Enjoy the recipe!) I love Penzeys! Especially since they have tossed in something free with my last two orders. (Usually the small container of a spice blend! hehe) They know how to tempt me, I bought a bag of the first freebie this time around! LOL

So I am making my Pizza Quiche for the SECOND time tonight as I dropped the pan the first time and it went everywhere! So first I cleaned up the hot gooey mess and then made another... beeper just went off so it is done! Yay! Finally!!!
(Edited to add: Wow!! This turned out great! Glad that I made a second batch! With plenty of leftovers for tomorrow's lunch!)

Have a goody!
Mike :maleficen

Hey Mike!

I am sooooo jealous! Your meals always sound sooooo amazing! I had a piece of fried chicken from the grocery store and cold pizza for dinner tonight. I am just not blessed with the creative cooking gene. :( My family WISHes I was though. ;)

I love your idea to start a WISH Iron Chef thread! :maleficen I will definitely subscribe to that one! :goodvibes

Have a great Sunday! :flower:

Good Morning Mike,

I was meaning to ask you for a while now on how the activities went for the Amazine Race thingy you were doing with your Resident Assistants. I think I have it right. Anyway hope you have a wonderful day. Smiles and hugs.

Hi Kardiebelle,

Still planning the activities. Their training isn't for another few weeks!! 18 days actually! Yikes! So much to do!! hehe!
I will report on what we did and how they go when we do them! :flower:

Have a great Sunday!

Well, I can say that my parents waited just beyond HS, I wasn't getting anyone out of gym class. ;) Although, I think I helped keep my dad out of the military (young college kid with family).

Too bad you had to remake your dinner last night. It sounds good though, did it taste as good after all the effort?

Thanks for stopping by my journal to lend support, it was much needed today. :flower:

Better get going, I have to get some rest to start that Aug. challenge off on the right foot.

Have a good night. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi Lesli!!

Thanks for coming by! I am glad to offer support any way I can, I know this is not an easy time! :goodvibes
As for last nights dinner, it was sooooooo good!!! I will be making the Pizza Quiche again but this time i think I will make is a Taco Quiche by topping it with salsa, ground beef season with taco seasonings, green peppers and then cheddar instead of mozzarella. The leftovers were great for lunch today too though next time I heat up left overs I think I will micro them and then toss them in a hot non stick pan for a few secs to try and crisp the bottom a little. We'll see if it works!!

Hope you get a good night's sleep! I expect everyone to finish the August challenge by Friday!!! ;) Just kidding! hehehe!

Sorry you were not feeling well this weekend? How do you feel today? Better

Keep up the good work, you are goind a great job! :maleficen

Hi Jamie!!

I am feeling much better today thank you! I will PM you the recipe in a minute, be warned it is definitely not a low cal recipe but low cal subs could be done on most of the ingredients. :goodvibes It's definitely more in the Low Carb vein.

Hope you are having a great day!
Mike :maleficen

Hey Mike!

You must love to cook!! :) I wish I could just hire a chef for a month or so - might help whip me in to shape!

Thanks for starting that recipe thread! What a great idea!

Mike - I know I'm not your mother, but I'm proud of you for heading up so many threads on WISH! I think one of the best things for me personally is to take some control - it helps me stayed focused! Woo hoo! :)
