migranes when pregnant

Oh god yes!! I got migraines with all 3.

I swear I used to get them every Monday am. Partially they are from lack of sleep. I still get them if I don't get alot of sleep. They'd go away by Tuesday mid-am.

What I did was take ES Tylenol every 3-4 hours, drink some tea & have 2 Pepsi's. I still do that. OH & I don't drink alot of caffeine either on a normal every day basis.

One other thing that helped me was when I puked, the headache would almost go away.

I agree...once I get the heaves, if I am lucky, I feel better a short time later. Not always though...sometimes I get round 2, 3, or more with the heaves before life starts to get better.

I found a lot of my migraines were from too much sleep (guess too little does it too though) and from not eating (not a conscious effort mind you, but life is busy).

At my doctor's recommendation, the minute I felt one coming on I took two Tylenol and drank a Coke. A real Coke, not diet or caffeine free, a real one. Worked like a charm. I was worried about the caffeine, but my OBGYN assured me this was okay.

Good luck!

This is what my DW's doctor said to do.

My doctor would only let me take over the counter medicine also, but he told me to take it with a coke!! Boy does that work. I even do that now not being pregnant when I can feel them coming on and it works if I catch it early enough and don't have to take any of my prescription meds!!

This is my third pregnancy and the first time in my whole life that I've ever had migraines. I've only had two, but I hope to God that I don't have any more. I couldn't see and the pain was so intense. My midwife told me that it's fine to take a half dose of Excedrin and that did the trick for me, thank goodness. Caffeine helped tremendously- I think mostly because I never drink it, so it was new to my body.
My blood pressure is perfect and there are no other problems, so I don't have a cause for the headaches. I just hope that was the end of them.

With my first son, I had migraines about every week for weeks 6 through 14. It was awful. Of course, I had the intense migraine behind one eye usually, but I would also be weak and nauseous. If I tried to move across a room, it usually resulted in my throwing up. I would basically spend 24 hours in a dark room, wishing terrible things would happen just so I wouldn't feel it anymore.

My doctor told me to take Tylenol at first, which did absolutely nothing. The last week of my migraines (go figure) she prescribed Tylenol-3 w/ codeine in it. I know- a narcotic...however, she said it was the safest prescription she could give me. I was tired of throwing up and missing work, so I took it and it worked relatively well. I would still throw up, but the pain was so much better.

I'm glad to see some people had better experiences. The good thing is that I never had them again, even when pregnant with #2.

I had wierd migraines when pregnant...they were called retinal migraines. I saw stars but felt no pain.

Mine started like that. It was my warning sign to go lay down. If I could get to sleep quick enough I could manage to ward off the pain and vomiting. If not it was a good four to eight hours before I could feel human again.
Watch your blood pressure. Mine were related to elevated blood pressure (not high just higher than my normal).

Thanks everyone for all the advice. Migranes are really awful. I have had two already with this pregnancy and they sucked. They are scary and I feel like I am just walking around wondering if will happen again today. Oh god don't let it happen today. With my other pregnancies I had problems with pre term labor and had to be magged. Let me tell you the migranes freak me out more then the other stuff. I tell my DH I rather be magged then get another migrane. Just thinking about them now makes me want to cry. When you don't have one for awhile you get lulled into a false sense of security and then wham its like you get hit by a truck. How can you tell you are getting them. How do you catch them in enough time? What do you feel like when you take the tylenol and coke?
