Hi everyone,

Awhile back there was a great thread that people were discussing migraines and different herbs they take. I know one of them was Feverfew but can't think of the other popular one people mentioned. Does anyone recall what it was??

TIA!

I've had success with the supplement CoEnzyme Q10.

Do you get that a health food store or where? I am willing to try anything (prescriptions - i've tried them all and nothing works).

Anyplace the sells vitamins. My neuro suggested 300 mg per day, but I have had success with just 200.

You have tried the triptans? (Frova, Imitrex, etc.)

Yes, I have tried them all, Imitrex, Zomig, Migranal (sp) and nothing works. I think the biggest problem is that I am not one who feels it coming on. It usually wakes me up early in the morning full blown.

Would Walmart or target sell the CoEnzymes Q10?

Oh yeah, if I wake with one, it's too late.

Yes, Walmart sells it!

Luvwinnie - thanks so much for your responses. I am definately going to try this and see if it works. If you have any other remedies let me know. I am open to anything. I have been suffering from these since I was 7 years old and am now 30.

Feverfew, Burberry, there are severl herb blends out there. My Neuro said Magnesium is a good mineral to bone up on too, as if your diet is low in it it can trigger them. I've got one today and Its the ONE I can't do anything about... Cycle migraine.

I've had good response to Topomax, but some of the side effects are annoying, I had/have bronchitis, and Topomax has been known to prolong it. JOY, so now I have full blown asthma. *sigh*

Best of luck!

I 2nd Topamax!! I use this too and it has been wonderful for me. Has cut my migraines down to very few and far between. I have my life back.
Do you see a neurologist?
I would suggest you try.

I take Maxalt, but it doesnt always work.

Has any one tried that stuff on TV, Head On? Does anyone know whats in that?

I dont know what RX's youre taking, just be careful with any supplements along with your RX's - they could make them work 1000% stronger, or not at all.... Google what you take along with what supplements youre interested in.

I personally like the herb of La' Vicodin! :teeth: Nothing has continually worked for me like it has.

I used to (and occasionally still) use Ascomp #3 (Fiorcet with Codeine) but it doesnt knock them out the way it used to. I imagine if I popped handfulls at a time it would - but not the route I want to take.

I have and it did nothing for me. Don't waste your money.

My DR just switched me back to Imitrex in hopes that would help. I have been getting daily ones lately. Ick!

I am not currently on any RX, so that's why I thought I would try the supplements. As I said in a earlier post, my biggest problem is that I don't feel it coming on until I am woken up with it full blown. Its nice to know I am not alone, although I wouldn't wish a migraine on my worst enemy!!

I've tried both Maxalt and the TV stuff and both did nothing for me. Another problem I have is that when I wake up with one, I start vomiting immediately (sorry probably TMI!) so nothing stays down. I've tried nasal sprays and even the Imatrex shot and no relief.

Topamax is one I haven't tried, I may have to go back to my neuro and ask about this one. Is this a prevenative or one you take when you feel it coming on? I get them about every 6 to 8 weeks. I know it could be worse but for me its still wayyyy to often.

My ds20 takes a daily preventive for his complex migraines, Aminotryptan (sp?), brand name Elavil. The neuro dr said that it has been the long running standard in migraine prevention. It has helped him get the headaches (brain attacks)under control...He still gets them but not like he use to. We made a trip to the ER a couple of weeks ago as he got a headache that would not let up....After knock out meds, anti nausea meds and oxygen he came home to a couple of days of rest....I think it was brought on by too much party time, not drinking enough water and not eating right....
The neuro also suggested Calcium, magnesium, Feverfew (but not with Elavil), Vit b12....

I use this. It works a good deal of the time. It doesn't work all the time, but neither does my Imitrex, which I also take. (I don't take them at the same time) I just have to catch the headache early, before it really gets into full swing. I have had these headaches since I was eight, and thank goodness they are lessening somewhat as I have hit middle age. Good luck!

Topamax is a preventative. You take a daily dose and it helps. There are some people that do not tolerate it well, so keep that in mind. It is an anti seizure drug, that is being used for Migraines as well as for weight loss... I've lost 15 pounds on it. My regular doctor prescribes it for me. Good luck.
