We are supposed to leave in 2 weeks for the dance nationals that are being held at the Swan and Dolphin. Yesterday at a competition, my daughter hurt her ankle and is now on crutches. The x-ray didn't show any fractures but they want to re-xray it again in a week once the swelling goes down.

I'm so sad that she might not get to dance at Nationals as she has been looking forward to it all year (this would be her first year). Plus it was also our first time staying at a deluxe hotel as well as visiting Universal Studios.

We are just going to take it day by day right now and see how the ankle is doing in a week before we make a decision about the trip.

:guilty: Your poor daughter. I have a dancer too, and I know she would be sick if she had to miss a national competition. Perhaps you can still go to WDW with a wheelchair. Not as great as walking, but at least you'd get to go. A few years ago DD broke her arm the night before we left. While that's not the same as a broken leg, it was still pretty darn painful. She couldn't go swimming and it was really hot& miserable. But she was glad to be there and we just altered parts of our trip for her(no water parks.) I hope it isn't broken and she can get back on her dancing feet quickly.

We just got back and couldn't believe the number of injured kids in the park! It seemed like everywhere you looked there was a kiddo with an arm in a cast or a walking boot/cast on plus several in wheelchairs. We felt so sorry for them. Even DH commented on the number of injured kids.

Saying extra prayers for your DD that she heals very quickly and can still enjoying the trip and her dancing.

Your poor daughter! Would she be able to go, cheer on her studio mates, and still enjoy WDW while on crutches? I hope it is just a sprain and she will be able to dance!

Are you in Irish dancing? Would you feel up to going down just to cheer on your school and enjoy the parks. If you even have a possibility of her having a stress fracture or just a bad strain I would highly recommend sitting this one out. I danced for many many years - (my knees will never be the same!) - and your daughter will have many competitions ahead of her if she can keep her body healthy! You're right at the start of the feis season and if she can manage a few weeks of rest and gentle exercise she can get her ankled healed and will be back on track to face another major competition.
The nationals are so much fun as a spectator! She can cheer on her school and you can get a feel for the BIG atmosphere - maybe help with getting other dancers ready.
I've seen way too many girls end their dance careers early - not because of injury - but because they didn't take the proper precautions to get back in shape.
Good luck to you - well wishes for your daughter!

Get a wheelchair, cheer on the rest of the team, and enjoy your times in the parks. Sure the chair will be a bit more inconvenient, but at least you'll still get a bit of a vaction in there as well. And maybe it'll distract her from her injury a little bit as well.

Thanks everyone. Yes, she is an Irish Dancer. We actually went to WDW 2 years ago when she had a broken foot. We got a wheelchair and it was okay.

However, I'm not sure I want to go over the 4th of July week if she isn't dancing. We used to only go in the summer but have gone twice in the fall and winter so are now spoiled with nice weather and low crowds.

We are going to take it day by day and decide in a week or so. I'm not willing to let her risk a more serious injury just to dance but am going to let the doctors make the decision (and her of course!)
