Might need some points - can I buy one time use points and borrow some?

I have a trip planned for a long weekend in the spring. Right now I am booked in a 1 bedroom at BWV for 150 points. I am thinking about changing to VGF. Right now there are three of my 4 nights available. If I change to VGF it will be 186 points. I don't want to have to borrow all 36 points. Can I buy 24 one time use points and then borrow the other 12? This is all contingent on my 4th night becoming available, which probably won't happen.

Why wouldn't you want to borrow all the pts you need? I believe it's $15/pt to buy up to 24 pts

I am trying to plan a big trip in the summer 2017 and need the points for that trip, but I guess I could just borrow for that too.

But if you are seeing those available on the RAT, they could be gone by the time you get the cancellation, rebook, extra point purchase done. You sure you want to do that?

It sounds like you really need to waitlist in which case borrowing would be the only option unless you were thinking about booking the 3 available and only waitlisting the one night. You can't waitlist and then buy 1 time use points to complete that waitlist. The points must already be available.

The benefit to purchasing if you know you have a need for your own points is that OTU points can only be bought at the 7 month mark. So, if you are changing and buy some and borrow others, it saves your own points for an 11 month booking.

Yes, I think this was my reasoning. I can buy them now, since I am in my 7 month window. I am planning a trip for summer 2017, needing as many points possible and I wouldn't be able to buy them for that trip, since I will be booking at 11 months.

I was hoping the last day would magically appear, I know dreaming. I thought about grabbing the nights available, but since it is such a short trip, I didn't want to chance having to move.
