Ok so my DH and I have tickets for PIR taping in August, the early taping. Has anyone been who can give me realistic expectations for time.. i.e., travel from Anaheim to the studio, and back? We are leaving our kids at the hotel, but thought we'd make that a beach afternoon? is that realistic? I think our taping is at 12:30, or should we do half a disney day, we have 3-4 days planned out already for DCA and DLR.
TIA!

I can't answer your questions about travel times, but I went to TPIR back in the 90's with my friend and it was so much fun. She was one of the 1st four contestants called up to play, the second up on stage and won her round when she spun he wheel! She lost in the final showdown, but it was still so exciting. LOVED it!

I went to a taping on my 2006 trip (see day 3 of that trip report for a few more details on that.) I'm not sure how they're handling things in the Drew Carey era, but if you go to http://www.golden-road.net, there's a slightly obsessed fan base for TPIR that can answer just about anything you'd possibly want to know. In particular, this looks like some good info to read.

The one thing I would say is to be prepared to be there early (as in 6am early) to make sure you get in. Traffic shouldn't be too bad at that time, but I think it was still about 45 minutes from Paradise Pier to Television City.

I have been twice...we arrived around 4am both times. We were probably about the middle of the line both times. It is a LONG wait, but we had a blast both times even though none of us were called up.

The drive shouldn't be too bad though....especially if you plan on going during that early hour.

I forgot about the long wait... Even though we had tickets, we were there super early and almost the last ones in line. We sat in the back row.

I think we left anaheim around 5am so we got up at 4...honestly I wouldn't expect to do the park that day, we basically got back to the hotel and collapsed around dinner time. It was great fun though :cool1:
