Friday after Thanksgiving--after midnight, so actually in the wee hrs of Saturday!--we'll be checking into POP.
We're not expecting to get the best room in the place at that hour & vacation week, but are concerned we may not get the non-smoking room we've requested--DS16 has asthma--
We actually prefer not being by food courts or pools, & we're only staying 2 nites, just fretting in advance over the ns thing
Should they issue us a smoking or just a nasty rm in general, is it wise to ask for another rm right then & there? I am concerned due to the Thanksgiving week that POP will be full--Personally, my 1st thought would be, politely, to ask if the CM, would call ASM or failing that another Disney resort to accomodate us--

Thanks in advance!
Rms reserved & pd for, ADRs in place, Activites in place & now fretting over
Details--

I plan to bring a DR's note stating that DS has asthma

Have your non smoking room noted as a medical need. You should have no problem having that guaranteed.

The doctors note will be useless if there aren't n/s rooms available. It's not like they are going to move someone out of a n/s room in the middle of the night to accomodate you.

What you need to do is have the reservation noted "N/S For Medical Reasons" and call special services to let them know why you need a n/s room. They will block the room for you out of the inventory that way so it can't be reassigned by the front desk.

When you need a n/s for medical reasons, don't try to get too picky over view or floor or otherwise. The n/s is your priority, and you need to gratefully accept any n/s room they give you. (Unless of course you are paying for preferred building/view and get assigned non-preferred)

My N/S rooms have always been guaranteed on my ressie due to medical reasons. It's never been a problem. As Anne posted, it will be blocked out for you ahead of time.

Yes, our reservation preference was for non smoking for medical reasons.
I have read threads where the posters have received, despite the above precautions, smoking rms.
We have no other preferences & will even be packing earplugs to combat the legendary 'paper thin walls' :goodvibes
I do intend to phone POP the day before to remind them of our late arrival & room request--

We checked into POP late the Saturday after Christmas last year & got a NS room, you shouldn't have a problem.

You have to understand, there's a big difference between indicating a reservation preference (which is what you've apparently done) and contacting Special Services about the same issue. The latter action WILL get you the room type you need for medical reasons; making a request on a reservation, well, Disney does its best to grant all requests but that's all they are is requests; as someone else pointed out, if there are no non-smoking rooms available when you arrive, they can't "make" one.

That said, six of the ten buildings at Pop are entirely non-smoking, and four are a mix of smoking-optional and non-smoking - probably by floor or wing, but I honestly don't know. So there are simply more non-smoking rooms, and you should not have a problem.

I'd think if you request a non-smoking room and none are available at Pop when you arrive but there's at least one at another resort, sure they'd get you that room - but if it was at a more expensive resort, you'd have to pay the difference. Contacting Special Services should avoid any such problem.
