At our Middle School the PTA has hosted a "celebration" every nine weeks grading term...basically the kids who had good behavior for the term got gatorade, water, pretzels, goldfish, sometimes frozen yogurt...
anyway this has run its course and we are now looking for something else to do...
Any suggestions? What does your kids' middle school do?
Thanks!

They give out honor roll certificates for grades which includes the bumper sticker, "My child is a honor roll student at..."

There is a recognition ceremony at the end of the school year for grades.

There are no awards for behavior.

At DD's school they have an ice cream sundae bar for the kids on honor roll. They do this every quarter. At the end of the year, they have a no-detention picnic.

DD's school has an honor roll celebration every quarter all grade awards have a citizenship clause attached to them. Sometimes they get cake, other times ice cream sandwiches and then they get the rest of the day (about an hour) of organized free time at centers throughout the school.

My nephews school holds a dance for any kid who hasn't had detention, sent to the pricipals office, stuff like that

Same here...Ice cream sandwiches. They are handed out at Lunch time. It's easy and the kids love them.

Ours is hosting a movie during the last couple of hours for them. DH is offering to let the girls stay out tomorrow so we can start our weekend travels early, older DD13 wants to go to school because of the movie! Younger DD (12 today) says who cares!

Oh, please not the bumper stickers. Those things exist so that really good kids can bring them home to parents who say, "I'm sorry sweetie, but we expect you to be on the honor roll. It's not something we're particularly exicted about, certainly not enough to mar our beautiful chrome bumpers for."

No, I know not all parents are this way, but still...makes me cringe whenever I see one. God, I would have killed for a party...or frozen yogurt...or even just some pretzles.

Maybe it's just me, but here goes..

I can see rewarding children for making the honor roll, but for "good behavior"? To me it seems odd to reward children for something that everyone is capable of and should be doing just because it's the "right" thing to do..:confused3

Anyone else? :confused3

Every quarter we have "Accountability Club". The kids get 3 "oops" passes for missed assignments/homework. If the kid stays within using their 3 passes/quarter, finishes their AR reading, and gets an "S" in work habits, they can join the accountability club party-basically a movie/cartoons, drink of their choice and trail mix that the kids bring in stuff to make-chips, pretzels,m&ms etc. Not too over the top which is good. And it stresses personal responsibility.

The bumper stickers are hysterical-and my kid is a 4.0 student! My bumper sticker is going to say..."Globally your honor student is a moron" If I may be so bold!
