Middle DS has thrown me into a tailspin

.

I bought the "original" refurbished one from the Applestore and I'm investigating my return options. So I'm hoping I'll only be out the extra $50. This is his only "big" gift.

.

I am curious about what you find out...because I just ordered DS a refurb touch from apple and now I am seeing the 3gen ones for only $30 more so I need to return it to apple.

If you have ShopRite stores near you the 8gb iPod Nano with video is on sale until tommorow for $139.99.

My oldest first mentioned his friends not believing in Santa at 8. I didn't say "of course there is" but I also didn't blurt out the truth. I just asked him what he thought, and said not to believe everything his friends said - which I tell him about many things in life!

He asked me point blank at 10. Again I asked him what do you think. I could tell he was really doubting it so when he asked if it was me & Dad, I said yes. By his reaction I could tell although he was questioning it, he wasn't really sure until I confirmed it. It was quite depressing at the time, LOL.

On the other hand, I'm the youngest of 3 kids & I NEVER remember believing in Santa. I vividly remember being at the school Xmas assembly in 1st grade & thinking that all the kids around me believed he was real - but I never told them he wasn't.

I'm know people don't want to hear this, but I'm of the opinion that this nine year old (to whom Santa has always brought one big gift) is suddenly asking for two big gifts because he is in the process of working though the Santa thing.

My kids are teens and both "knew" around eight.

Hi, I think you mis-read my post. He's not getting two big gifts. I bought the ipod nano but it's not the one he wants. I thought I was being proactive and buying it early but he's clarified what he's expecting Santa to bring (he LOVES taking videos with my cell phone so I totally can see the attraction with the new generation of ipod - it's the best of both worlds for him). He's only getting one big gift - the iPod Nano, but the one he wants is not the one I bought, it's the new one that's not available as a refurb yet so I'm scrambling trying to find the best price and get the color he wants. I posted to see if anyone has seen any good prices out there that are not Black Friday as this is one of those item for which I never have any luck on Black Friday and for which I can totally see them not having the color he wants. If I can find a percentage off or buy $100 and get x off coupon so I can save a little money on the upgrade and not dent the budget as much. I'm going to buy new new 5th generation nano and return the 4th generation refurbished one if I can. If I can't I'm going to either sell it or keep it for myself (I don't have one). But I'd love it if I could turn that extra $50 into an extra $30, ya know.

Please note I know I don't HAVE get the 5th generation especially since I already bought the other one which is almost what he's asking for, but he's having a really really bad year at school because of learning disabilities the school just can't get a handle on - which may be part of why he still believes; he's got to hold on to something magic in the midst of a lot of personal stress - and DH and I both believe he needs this boost this year - of having Santa give him exactly what he's asked for - especially since we can afford that extra little bit - and especially since this will probably be the last year Santa visits him.

You mentioned that he asked for that particular color so it seems to be important. I don't know about blue ipods but usually whatever color of something dd asks for always seems to be the color they don't have (especially on BF sales).

Do they have different "skins" or covers or whatever would go on an ipod? That way you could get one at a great price and then buy a cover in blue so it would be the color he wants; or would that not work at all?

Sometimes trying to get that perfect gift can be so trying!! I hope you can get the exact thing he wants, sounds like he needs a perfect gift from Santa this year.

Well, the whole best deal thing is moot. I just called Apple and found out the return limit is 14 days (14 days from date of purchase unless purchased between Oct. 31 and Dec. 24) and although it's past the return date they agreed to do an exchange for me but only because the iPod had never been out of the box - heck we never even opened the box. BIG exception to get to exchange it. Took an hour on the phone. I'm eagerly awaiting my e-mail with return directions, as soon as they have it the new 5th generation will be on the way, full price, but hey at least I'm not out the $105 (including tax) I spent on the first one.

Who doesn't believe in Mickey Mouse????????????????
Santa too???????????????????
If you don't believe, there is no longer magic!!!!!!!!:goodvibes

Woohoo! Great for you, congrats. Nice to know customer service isn't entirely dead. :)

Did you talk to anybody named Holly???? She helped me out big time when my DD got my son's brand new ipod nano wet and inoperable. Glad you got some pixie dust. It's a good feeling!:wizard:

Nope that wasn't her name. She was very chatty and friendly. Told me all about her $15 Uggs that she got on clearance. I was soo soo afraid I was going to get stuck with selling it on e-bay. So I'm happy to pay the extra. The good thing is I'm able to have the new one engraved for free with his name and our phone number.

There is no problem with still believing in Santa Claus! Let the children believe as long as they want.

That sounds great! Sure her name wasn't Mrs. Claus? :santa:

SEEE???!!! Santa IS REAL!!!!! :santa: Glad everything worked out for you OP!

When my children were small (they're now 44, 42, and 37) we told them that they couldn't have everything they asked for, from Santa, because although Santa brought them, Daddy had to pay for them. That appeased them for many years and kept the requests within reason. It also helped them believe in Santa and the theory longer than their friends. I agree with earlier posts....they're only children for a little while, they ( and you ) should enjoy it as long as possible.
