tropical storm Fabian will be near the east coast at this time. weather forcasters don't know if it will hit florida or go more north at this point. They said things like "data for this one is the most ominous storm so far this year and could be a major disaster!" They expect by the 2nd week of Sept. Hope for the best!!

no telling at this point but this will probably be a bad hurricane. Not that WDW gets the hurricane portion but I would expect lots of rain (if it goes Florida's way) My local station just said 'by the 2nd week' so watch the weather get some good quality rain gear.

Don't waste your $$ on dollar store ponchos or being lost in the sea of yellow Mickey slickers. We bought good 'Eddie Bauer' rain jackets in the camping section of Target - cheap but good quality.

Nooooooooo....our honeymoon is Sept 8-12 down in Disney! I would be heartbroken!!:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I'll have to keep a close eye on this, natural disasters are very good at finding me this year.

Thanks for the info on this storm!

This goes with the territory when you book a trip during hurricane season. We always expect it might happen. Even if it wasn't Fabian, there could be another, yet to be named TS waiting to take this ones place. No sense in worrying, because there's nothing we can do about it. We leave in less than 3 weeks, so will be watching the weather as we get closer.

I too would be heartbroken. Please God - not on our vacation!:(
My vow renewal and 30th birthday are on September 22.
My DS s birthday is September 10th.

Well - I guess I had better keep a closer eye on the weather in the next week and head to target for those nice rain jackets ! ;)

hi n2mm
sorry if this sounds dumb, when is hurricane season:D

eve:D

I think the worst storms hit between mid-August and October. Not sure of the exact dates, I know official hurricane season starts quite a bit earlier than that.

Fabian has been upgraded to a Category Three hurricane as of the 5pm update...

This is a double-edged sword for me... Not only am I supposed to be going to WDW right when it's supposed to make landfall, I live a couple hundred miles south of Orlando, and therefore my *house* is also in the possible strike zone. So if it stays more south, I'd have to skip vacation anyway and take care of my belongins.

Really hoping this one swings way north.

This may sound dumb, but can someone tell me when you say second week of September do you mean the week of Sept 7th or later in the month..we go on the 13th and the way I am reading it sounds like it will hit before that...thanks..sorry to all who have trips planned then, we were there during the 2001 hurricane, very very wet....:(

Tropical Storm GRACE should be hitting us tomorrow--wish us luck :)

Doesn't sound like it's going to be a biggie, but up to a foot of rain can do amazing things to the coastal region.

Just FYI to everyone. Last year before my September trip, I started a thread in "News & Rumors" that followed any storms that might effect WDW. I just started another, and have the current maps of the location and projected path of "Fabian". I will also keep it updated with the announcements from the National Weather Service - regarding the storm.

Check out the thread here.....

Would be nice if they REALLY could predict when (and where!!) these things will hit. BUt they can't, so no choice but to be aware and at least watch things. I certainly would not cancel any plans I had based on this forecast--. Heck--just yesterday they got our afternoon weather up here completely wrong in the morning forecast--and that was just 8 hours later!! My brother was all set to cancel a 50+ person church picnic based on the forecast. Glad he didn't--it rained all of 10 minutes!!
To note that we've been very lucky-always gone to WDW in Sept. since 1975 and never had a problem with hurricanes. Some have threatened, but none ever came close enough to cause any disruption to our trip.
Hope this one won't either!!

just as a flash to those of you who weren't watching the weather in the last two weeks. There have been two tropical depressions who were going to be named Fabian if they met criteria. In the last two weeks both were plotted to land right on Florida. Hitting it from the right, left and straight on. Neither one amounted to much of anything. Neither one produced anything other than rain and not much of that.

So learn how to deal with it and enjoy, I have gotten to where I have let that REAL REAL little inner child out during rain and now I jump and splash and kick rain puddles, catch drops of water and just make it fun instead of rotten.

Being 50+ that was quite a challenge, but I got tired of other people (hahahha) ruining my vacation because they got me wet when I was trying so hard to stay semi-dry and grumpy.

NOTE: It is extrememly difficult to wear a lime green ribbon or mouse head or any other identifier on a poncho;)

On a positive note - Don't let those who don't know for a fact what will happen allow you to fret your vacation into misery.

We were at the NC coast last year for our vacation when tropical storm Gustav made landfall. No big deal--lots of wind and rain but it was one of our most memorable vacations yet. And good memories, not bad. It was a little bit of excitement thrown into the mix!

Fabian might produce some extra rain, but ... we've been looking forward to this trip for sooooo long, that rain isn't gonna ruin our vacation.

Besides, it is waaaay to early out to be predicting ANY landfall for this hurricane. Is it a massive storm? Yes. But, as a resident of North Carolina (who spent her first 20 or so years on the coast), we don't worry about these things until there is a need to worry.

My advice, don't worry about Fabian or any other tropical activity until the weather forcasters issue a watch or warning. And, if they happen to issue that warning, just make sure you have your umbrella handy so that you can do your Mary Poppins impersonation!

See you in Orlando on the 14th--regardless of the weather!
