Mid June Crowds?

Hello All!!

I'm planning a trip to DLR the week of June 13th. I've been to Disneyland twice but only for day trips. Once when I was 12 so I don't remember a whole lot and once during Spring Break in 1995. It was sooo crowded. How are the crowds Mid June? Is it going to be super busy with really long wait times for all the rides?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Jodi

I should never have clicked on this post.:scared1:

We are going to DL for the first time June 13-20th. We have never done Disney during the summer. I was hoping that the crowds wouldn't be too bad yet.

Things change, so maybe this year it won't be so bad?

Okay, wait. We were planning June 8-12 and when I checked those block out calendars the blockout dates were 10th, 11th and 12th. So will the 8th and 9th be packed???

Why is the 13th- 15th going to be packed? Because of all the SO CAL APs are not blocked those days or is something else going on???

HELP! Trying to pick the right days to go???

We've always stayed either Sun-Thurs or Tues-Sat in order to be there during the weekdays but still have a weekend day to see fireworks, Fantasmic etc.

Does this schedule not work for summers anymore??

Last year and this year our trip is June 19-27 and the crowds are not too bad. Of course we fast pass everything so our wait in lines are not very long, I think the longest we did wait was 45 min maybe. Being a DL vet I have gotten used to heavy crowds....

On non-blockout days expect huge crowds. So would say "epic" crowds.

See "Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds" http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

and especially post #2 in that thread.

Summer crowds actually are not that bad after the AP bockouts go into effect.

I think summer is the best time to visit DLR. :)

Unfortunately things will probably be worse this year with the growth in SoCal APs and, most importantly, the opening of World of Color. See the above link I gave on AP Blockouts.

On the bright side, DLR can be enjoyed even when crowded. If you "wing it" you will pay for that with long lines. If you use a few simple strategies you can still have a great trip.

We are planning June 5-12 and know that June 6-8 are not blocked out for passholders, but how are there so many passholders in the parks on Monday-Wed. when the kids are still in school?

Unfortunately anytime June through August is going to be pretty busy. I cannot ever remember a slow day in the summer. Sure some days will be less crowded than others, but still crowded nonetheless. It is still doable though if that is your only time to plan your vacation...just get fastpasses for the major attractions and utilize single rider if you don't mind not riding with your party.

Not everyone who goes to Disney, especially with the premeire of WOC, have kids.

Summer hours and promotions (new shows, etc) start around the 2nd Friday in June (I'd say the 11th this year). SoCal passes are at this point getting phased out for the summer (aka more and more blockout days each week until blocked out completely July-mid August). SoCal AP holders last year rushed the parks on those last few non-blocked days to enjoy the new summer festivities and longer park hours. So the parks reached capacity on those days (I believe both June 15 & 16).

Our school is out on the 4th of June.

ETA: We are heading down June 17-23 and fully expect craziness for June 20-22. Especially 21-22 (the last 2 days the SoCal Selects can go until August 23!! Did I choose these dates, NO!, but when finding a time when 5 families are available is really difficult.

A lot of the SoCal AP holders are young single people (or married no kids) who live near the parks and can stop in on a whim. Some of them visit every single week when they are not blocked out.

I think what a lot of us are shooting for is reasonable summer crowds and not insane crowds where people camp out for Fantasmic and fireworks 4-6 hours early like they did last June and August before and after blockouts.

I blame that on Murphy and pure insanity!!! :rotfl:

Now that I've studied those block out calendars, which days would you go?
June 9-12 or
June 16th-20th???

We've never done DL this late in June. We don't even normally visit in the summer but this is our only times we can go. The time we visited in June 2 years ago we went the 3rd-9th.

Thanks for any advice on these dates.

I'd wait till July or early-mid Aug.

June 10-12 is blocked out, as is June 16-19. June 10, 16 and 17 are grad nights - see "The Scoop on Grad Nights at DLR in May and June" - www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2298400

Both seem like good dates to me with only one non-blockout day.

I would suggest the 9-12th. The earlier in the month, the better as schools get out around that time (some at the end of that week, and some the next). Also, I would think the heat would be more bearable in early June than in July or August so that is a plus.

Thanks for the advice! We were thinking of the 9-12 as our first choice so I guess that works out well with the recommendations here.

As always, we will arrive before rope drop and gather our fastpasses throughout the day. It should be fine.

Thank you for all your wonderful replies to my original post. After reading and do a bit a research I think that I am going to adjust our dates to June 27th to July 2nd. We can't go any earlier as my niece doesn't get out of school until June 5th (or close to that).

If I'm reading things correctly June 27th through July 2nd are blocked out dates. Am I correct?

Please help me understand how busy it will be during the week...even if people don't have kids, do they not work during the day?? Will it be crazy busy June 6-9 when the passholders aren't blocked...thanks again for helping me understand this...it seems like a whole different game that WDW.
