Mid August Vs. Columbus Weekend crowds?

I know traditionally Columbus day weekend has been very busy, but how does that compare to a weekend in mid August (Aug 12-15ish). Thanks!

It's been a number of years since I have done either of those time frames, but I remember the August dates being better for crowds. Also while August can end up being somewhat humid, if it's not humid, it can end up feeling more comfortable weather-wise than October. We have experienced hotter days in October than during August sometimes.
