My grandsons will be staying at POR with us in March. Are there any microwaves in the rooms or available to rent? One of the little guys still takes an evening bottle. :flower:

There are no microwaves in the rooms. There are some in the food court.
I'm not sure if you can rent them or not. Back in 1999 we were able to rent them at the GF. But I do not know if they do this any longer.

I would either encourage him to drink it cold (sometimes easier said than done), or take a bottle warmer with you - you can get one that plugs in and heats a bottle in a few minutes - or you can get creative with the coffee maker - I have run the coffee maker without any coffee in it, and then put the bottle in the jug of hot water to heat through

You can rent microwaves (among other things) from A Baby's Best Friend, a rental company in Orlando that gets a lot of great comments here. They will deliver to your hotel before you get there and pick up after you leave. We have used them for cribs and strollers, and each time everything is really nice and very clean.

Their website is www.abbf.com and has photos and ordering information.

I was always told not to warm baby's bottle in the microwave because it can form hot spots that can burn the baby. Better to use a bottle warmer or put the bottle in a warm pot of water (like pp suggested) for a minute or two. This is what we did in the beginning. After a while we started giving the bottles to ds cold (expressed breast milk, straight from the fridge) and he didn't have a problem with it so that's the way he got it from then on. Many babies adjust just fine to bottles given at room temp. It really does make life so much easier for everyone too!

That's what I always suggested (and why) when I was a Public Health Nurse and taught Prenatal Classes. It was quite a while ago, but I'm sure it hasn't changed. The microwave not only makes hot spots, but things continue cooking for a few minutes after they are removed from the microwave.
We used to suggest running a container of water as warm as it can get from the tap and then putting the bottle in that.
As Cheryl mentioned, babies adapt to whatever temperature they get used to.

I agree with the warming with hot water method as well. When DS was an infant the doctor strongly advised not to use the microwave because it could somehow chemically alter the formula. I think it was something about the heat from the microwaves rendering some of the vitamins inert or something along those lines.

Any chance the child can use powdered formula tha can be mixed with warm water to begin with, thus alleviating that entire issue?

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'll pass them on to my daughter. Enjoy the day. Hopefully it is :sunny: where you are. It's :sunny: here in VT but still pretty :cold:
