Microscope kit for children?

My 10-year-old wants a microscope for Christmas. Can anyone recommend any good microscope kits? Is 10 too young for one?

if you go to amazon and type in kid's microscope you will get a big list of what they sell-then you can look at the reviews posted for each of them. i've found it's a good way to get info and feedback on this kind of stuff.

p.s.-10 is not too young, my ds is 9 and has wanted one for a couple of years since they use them allot at school (this will probably be the year).

I was going to make a similar post for my 7 year old. I may ask his school teacher who has several in the classroom, what to look for.

I got a microscope for christmas when i was a kid and it was so much fun!

Try the Discovery Store or shopping.discovery.com. They have amazing well-made items for all ages. I spent a fortune there this year. I bought remote control dinosaurs, projection clocks, wonderful baby toys. You name it, they have it.
