We went to the Taylor Swift concert a week ago and I wasn't sure how my Oly Pen would do in such a situation, but I didn't know if DSLR's were allowed. Indeed I didn't see any, but there were lots of camera phones and p&s's.

I took my 20mm f/1.7 pancake and my 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 but used the telephoto for all the concert pics. We were just too far away for the 20mm. The only processing I did was in LR and that was some cropping, adding clarity, increasing blacks a bit and some vibrance and contrast. Overall I was quite happy with the results. I think these were all at 1600 ISO (had it on shutter priority) and there were only a few (out of 110 keepers) that I felt I had to apply noise reduction.

We decided a couple of weeks ago to go to WDW in December. I've already warned DD9 that I may go off by myself at times because I want to take a lot of pictures and I was debating on whether to take my DSLR too along with my Pen, but after seeing the results from the concert, I'm just going to stick with the Pen.

We really enjoyed the concert and liked the variety, and dancers I think added a lot to it. I would go see her again if I have the chance.:thumbsup2

Really good concert photos!

I agree that u4/3 is good enough for almost any photo situation we may encounter. The smaller sensor will lag behind APS-C in some regards but it does not appear to be an issue normally.

I am waiting to see if the Panasonic GF-Pro (or GF-7, or whatever they decide to call it) looks good, if it does I am likely to switch from Canon APS-C to u43.

Thanks everyone! That little camera keeps surprising me every time I take it out. I'll have to get some of my Disney on Ice pics up - it was in the same arena but we were in the first row, center court so to speak. So I was able to use the 20mm f/1.7 and I got some good shots with it. I'll take it again to the same place Saturday night and see how it does at a basketball game!:cheer2:

I'm not ready to hang up my DSLR yet though. There are a couple of lenses that I use 99% of the time on it that do not have equivalents in micro 4/3. I could get an adapter, but reviews are that they AF slowly and the one I use most of the time would just be too large for the Pen.

And Linda, there's even a photo here I can use on the scavenger hunt! The concert was last Tuesday night, which is when the full moon was, but I did get a shot of a full moon that was on the stage.:thumbsup2

Fantastic shots Lynn. You must be really pleased with those shots. And it looks like it was a great concert too.

Thanks! We checked her upcoming concert schedule and she'll be in your part of the world sometime after Christmas.

Looks good. I'm happy with my Lumix G3 M43, I took it with me to WDW last week and I left my Nikon D7000 at home.

Not to hijack the thread, rossb could you start a new thread with photos from your G3? I am really considering getting one to replace my Canon dSLR for most uses.

Great pictures--they make me want to go to a Taylor Swift concert (despite not having particularly strong feelings one way or another about her music). The dancers look awesome!

I'll try to post some tomorrow while watching football.

Awesome pictures! What a fun show!

I saw a few DSLRs when we went to her show back in August, and I was so mad I didn't bring mine. Although I will admit I was concerned that I'd have to lock it in my car if they didn't allow it in, but you know how it goes.

I brought a Nikon P&S that I haven't used in years, and was totally happy with the results.

Those are great! How close were you to the stage?

They let cameras into her concerts? Most performers and venues don't allow cameras because of copyright and licensing issues.

This is a photo someone on her crew posted to her Twitter before the show started of the crowd. I circled my own face. I still crack up laughing at it.

I sent it to a few friends with the subject "51,000 people in attendance, and I still manage to make it onto Twitter"

That's pretty cool! If this were the concert we went to, we would be sitting directly under the suites on the left side to the left of the exit from the field. Ours was in a basketball arena that seats 22,000.

It looked like you had a great view. We couldn't see much because the stage was so high. When she was singing on the tree, we had to depend on the jumbo screens, but it was raining, and they shorted out, so we saw nothing :sad1:
