I knew you had to have read it...but there was a lot of info to take in and when you are planning it's so much to remember. I was told stuff too that I never remembered til lafter we cruised.

Yes, it's a parking garage at he port.

That's funny about the 'reality' show family near you! I don't even know if we have A&E, but I'll have to check.

As Jen said, it is a covered parking deck at the port. I have no idea what the park n' cruise is though. It might be a parking deck as well, but I don't know. Parking at the port is definitely going to be the easiest option even though it does cost more.

First thing after lunch can be a good time to ride the AD. We boarded the ship pretty early though so I think it will depend on how soon you get on and finish lunch. I went back and checked the time on my photos and I would say by around 2:00 it was getting crazy in the pool area. Until then though there was really no line for the AD. I wouldn't worry though if you don't get to ride the AD at that time b/c there were no lines at night either and I think it stayed open pretty late. Maybe 11:00? We would go up right after the show ended and it was practically empty (except on Pirate night of course).

Yep, polos and khakis will be perfectly fine. People have very different opinions on that topic. Some think that everyone should dress like they are going to a ball, but I say, it's YOUR vacation... dress how you want!

I read a great tip on the boards tonight that I will share with you. Remember I told you that you have to place one of your room keys in the 'light switch' in order to have lights in the room? Well I was always so paranoid that I was going to walk out of the room and leave one of our cards in the slot. But I read tonight that someone placed a different card in the slot and it worked fine (library card, grocery store discount card, any plastic credit card sized card will work). I thought that was a great idea. I will be using my library card on the next trip! She said she just left it in the slot without pressing it down (so the lights weren't running while they were gone), and then she didn't have to worry about leaving one of the cards behind! Brilliant! And by the way, it doesn't turn off your A/C so you don't have to worry about coming back to a hot room. It only controls the lights and maybe the outlets.

I thought of something else too. Don't put anything in your luggage that you drop at the curb that will break b/c they are really rough with it, just like at the airport. And don't put anything in there that you will need that day on the ship. You might not get your luggage delivered to your room until much later in the day.

If I think of anything else, I'll pass it on to you, but that's all I have right now. Trust me, the more you know before you go, the better!

I had used "used" gift cards in our slot and left it in the slot at all times. But one day it was gone and I assume our stateroom host (who I never saw and I don't think was very good ) took it. I would've reported it if it had something on it, but I didn't since it was empty. I have been saving used gift cards for our next cruise. LOL

I did write about that on my TR.

Also keep any giftcards that you put on your room credit. If you don't use all your credit, then you will have to have the gift card to refund it to you.

I also suggest wearing lanyards and that way you have your KTTW card with you all the time.

Please accept my sincere apology as I am deranged and slightly demented these days. Now that you bring that up, I clearly remember reading about it on your report. I guess because I hadn't sailed yet when I read your TR, it just didn't click with me at the time what you were talking about. So you are indeed the one with the BRILLIANT idea! Sorry about that Jen!

I agree Lisa, and if all three of you plan to get in the water at CC (which I HIGHLY recommend!) then you should consider getting a waterproof pouch/box for your lanyard so you can take your cards in the water with you. That's what we did when we went snorkeling. There are no lockers on the island, so think about that when bringing valuables. The very first gift shop that you get to on the island sells the lanyards w/ waterproof boxes. I think they were only about $5. You'll need to think about what to do with your camera as well. I only brought my waterproof camera on the island and I just strapped it to my wrist whenever we went into that fabulous clear blue lagoon!

I'm thinking that all we will take to CC is a tote with sunscreen, our cover-ups, possibly a hat, etc. in it. Nothing valuable. The waterproof camera that I bought has a strap on it so I can take it with me wherever we go.

I already have one of the waterproof boxes on a lanyard that we bought at Typhoon Lagoon. I was thinking of getting another one when we are at the resort the first night. I wonder if they have the clear pouch lanyard things at POR.

Also, if you buy something on the island, you can have them take it back to the ship for you so you don't have to keep up with it all day or worry about it being stolen.

Are you planning on snorkeling? If so, don't forget to really spray your backside heavy with sunscreen. People tend to forget that but that is the side that will be facing the sun for quite a while and you WILL get fried!

Loving the PTR! I don't have much advice in regards to the cruise, (never been) but I wanted to let you know that we bought a lanyard and a pack of the clear pouches at Walmart in the office supply section. They were only a dollar or so. They are not as nice as the Disney ones, but worked for our 8 day trip last year.

I know it sounds funny, but boy is it true! We normally just spray it on whatever parts we can reach ourselves, but you really need to get someone else to spray you from neck to heel on the back. Once we got out there and started snorkeling, time just sort of melted away and we probably ended up floating in the water for maybe 2 hours?? That's a long time to be facing the sun and you get burned quicker in the water anyway. You will have a severe sunburn if you don't take the time to spray down that backside!

I'm thinking the same thing....if somebody wants it bad enough, I guess they can have it and I can have my excuse to buy a replacement. I'm going to need that cover up on AND a hat 'cause my hair likes to do all kinds of standing on end, curly whirly things when it gets wet.

Oh I didn't know about sending packages back to the ship. I hadn't even thought about that.

I'm not sure if we will go snorkeling or not. We've tried it before and weren't that great at it so I think we'll play it by ear. But, I'm filing away the backside suncreen tip 'cause I'm sure we'll be out there in the water even if we aren't snorkeling. I don't want to get my booty sunburned and then not be able to lounge around later.

I'm glad that you posted the tip! My backside doesn't see the light of day much (everybody say THANK GOODNESS ) so I am sure it would be the first thing that got sunburned.

What are we going to see and sea?

If I thought that I knew diddly squat about cruise ships, well, you can imagine what I felt like when I started researching all the various port excursions. I did a lot of going back and forth on the Disney Cruise Line site trying to decide what we wanted to do when we arrived in Nassau. Can we say information overload?

Did we wanna swim with a dolphin or have an encounter with a sea lion? These seemed to be really popular choices. Or, did we want to feed and pet a sting ray? I kept thinking back to what happened to Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter. R.I.P. Well, then, we could sip on rum and smoke cigars. I took that one out of the mix pretty quickly. Not really into rum or cigars and it was for adults only any way. How about wine and cheese tasting? Nah, we are more a Coke and vienna sausages kinda family.

Have mercy on my soul, I was overwhelmed with the choices. I mean, look for yourself, here’s the complete list that we had to chose from:

Count’em....that’s 29 tours to choose from! Now can you see why I was a bit overwhelmed? Most of this research was done while at work....shhh, don’t tell the bossman.... so I went through the list and tossed the ones that I knew John would not want to do. I ended up printing out information on the Atlantis Aquaventure, Blackbeard’s Cay Stingray and Beach Adventure, Blue Lagoon Island Dolphin Encounter, Ardastra Gardens and City Tour, Blue Lagoon Island Sea Lion Encounter, Nassau Forts and Junkanoo Discovery, Seaworld Explore Semi-Submarine, See and Sea Island Tour Nassau, and the Sunshine Glass Bottom Boat Tour.

I did a pretty good job at whittlin’ down the list. It went from 29 to 9. John and I have been married almost 28 years and I knew which ones he’d say no to right away and the ones that he would consider. These 9 were the ones that I thought he’d consider, with the exception of three of them which I wasn’t so sure he’d even consider but it was worth a shot. The three that I wasn’t sure that he’d go for were the most popular: the dolphin encounter, the sea lion encounter and the stingray encounter. Of those three, I was most interested in the sea lion encounter. I mean, who gets to say that they hung out with a sea lion? I know, it’s not like I hang out with dolphins or sting rays everyday either. I tend to hang out with the sharks. Get it? Remember? I’m a paralegal. I deal with attorneys every day a/k/a sharks.

Oh I’m just a loadful of laughs. Or possibly just a loadful of something else but we’ll just say it’s laughs.

I put all the information in nice neat little stacks, clipped them all together and took them home with me. I knew that once I pulled it out John would have the same look on his face as he gets when I have him look at the Disney restaurant menus.

I was going to have all my ducks in a row and make the conversation snappy or he’d end up trying to do this:

Once again, just as I did when I approached the subject of the cruise itself, I caught him when he had finished up his supper and was resting on the couch. What did I do? I plopped myself right down beside him with papers in hand. He had that “I so don’t want to do this” look in his eye but I started talking before he had a chance to say anything.

As I thought all along, the dolphin, sea lion and stingray encounters were out of the running within mere minutes. If you were wondering, the name Crocodile Hunter did come up in the conversation. And, yes, I do know that these aren’t the same kind of sting rays that pierced Steve Irwin’s chest but still...... We Louisiana folks are used to more civilized animals like alligators, water moccasin snakes, coyotes, armadillos and such. Having an encounter with beautiful creatures like dolphins and sea lions doesn’t seem to be up my husband’s alley.

That left us with just 6 out of 29 things to chose from. We chatted for a little while about the cost and about the time that would be required for the tours and it came down to just three excursions. 1) The See and Sea Tour, and; 2) The Sunshine Glass Bottom Boat Tour, and; 3) Nassau Forts and Junkanoo Discovery. We also had to consider that we had a teenager that we needed to entertain as well so it couldn’t be too history related or it might be considered boring. (Hunter was gone to small groups/Bible study so he wasn’t in on the decision making.) So, after a little more consideration (Hey, American Pickers was about to come on. We had to make it quick or we’d miss something.), we ended up deciding to do the See and Sea Tour:

At a Glance

After a 15-minute walk, a transfer boat shuttles you to the marine park at Athol Island.
Along the way, enjoy a scenic ride through the Nassau Harbor, past Paradise Island.
Upon arrival, board the SeaWorld Explorer, a unique vessel that remains above sea level at all times while its hull, the underwater observatory, is five feet below the surface. Through your own personal viewing window, observe a delicate colony of coral, known as the "Sea Gardens," populated with many varieties of colorful tropical fish.
After approximately 45-minutes exploring the waters of Athol Island, you'll be returned to pier for the next portion of your tour.
Upon arriving back on dry land, an air-conditioned bus and knowledgeable guide take you on a tour of Nassau. Sights include Bay Street, Rawson's Square, Parliament buildings and the Supreme Court. The bus also stops at Fort Fincastle, which sits atop one of the highest points on Nassau and is adjacent to the Queen's Staircase.
Next, drive past Fort Charlotte, the largest of the Fort complexes in Nassau, before continuing past the Governor's Mansion back to the pier.
Additional Information
This excursion includes an approximate 15-minute walk to and from the boat pick-up point.
This tour is available to all ages. Since it involves a boat/vessel, infants under 3 years of age must have a child's ticket.
This tour may run in reverse order.
This excursion is stroller accessible. However, some portions of the tour may require Guests to fold accompanying strollers. Lightweight strollers are recommended.
Wheelchairs (collapsible or electric) are not permitted. Tour operators will deny participation to Guests arriving in wheelchairs or electric scooters.
You should never feel that gratuities are expected, but it is customary to leave a tip in recognition of exceptional service in restaurants, taxis and for excursion guides and drivers. It is always up to you to determine the amount.
Due to extremely limited availability, Guests are encouraged to book early.

I think that this excursion will be right up our alley. We get to SEA and SEE many of the things that Nassau has to offer. Our tour is supposed to be over somewhere around 12:30 so I feel like we will have a bit more time to see a bit more of Nassau. I don’t want to venture far but I have heard that the rum cakes there are very good. I’ve made rum cakes before and I didn’t care for them but, hey, I’m only gonna live once and I want to at least say that I’ve tried Bahama Rum Cake before I depart this dear Earth.

I know of at least one Diser who has been to the rum store several times so I need to get over to her trip report and find the map that she posted. If any of you know where it is in regards to distance from where the ship disembarks, please let me know.

My little guy was so young when he went on his first cruise and our first time to the Bahamas. We didn't do any excursions. There was plenty to do on the ship, and dh and older ds went to the straw market. Boy, did they have stories to tell after!!

The excursion you chose looks great! We did one of those kind of boats as an excursion on Grand Cayman. Looks like divers will bring things for you to see too. That's what they did for us on the Sting Ray city tour.

We watch American pickers too! And storage wars!

Have to laugh about your critters. When we went to the keys, I had no clue they had salt water crocs!! Now it's not just sharks but crocs that keep me from tropical waters.

The rum cakes are very good!!! Our Bass Pro shop has the same brand of run cakes, but they rarely have our favorite...Banana!!! Oh the banana is soooo good!! But if you don't like the banana flavored runts then the banana is not for you.

That's a claustrophobe's nightmare right there! I would love to do that but why, oh why, did they have to go and put a roof over the seating area! If they had left it open to the top deck, I could handle it. I can just imagine one of those glasses shattering and that whole area filling with water!!! I know. I have serious issues! You'll have to let me know if that is actually what the boat looks like though. Please make sure to take note of that for me. I want to hear all about this when you get back. It looks really cool otherwise!

Oh and just when you feel overwhelmed with excursions in Nassau, then you have to decide if you want to do one at CC. The possibilities are endless! I'm struggling with that issue myself. We are probably going to cruise again in the fall and I don't know what excursions to do. We loved Blue Lagoon so much that we might just do the beach day there, but if that submarine thing is not the death trap that it looks like to me , then that looks pretty cool too. Decisions, decisions...

Oh and you can get the Rum Cakes when you come back through the customs building getting back onto the ship if you can't find that store. We bought one in there from a vendor.

So, after a little more consideration (Hey, American Pickers was about to come on. We had to make it quick or we’d miss something.)

HEY! Those American Picker guys were here last year! They stopped in a town called Symco,(4 minutes down the road from me) and bought a sign and something else! The place they picked was a Thresheree grounds owned by 2 people I went to school with and the have a lot of old steam engine tractors and a whole village of buiildings like a store, jail, and such. The owners name was Jerod and the Dad was in a wheelchair.
Every summer in July they have a HUGE Thresheree where old tractors and stream engine tractors are shown, and they tractor pulls and it a BLAST! I spent many a teenage year having fun there!


Oh yeah, back to your plans! LOL, WOW! That's a lot of tours to decide! I can see how overwhelming it would be. I would probably do the dolphin one, just for Kadence. I do like the underwater glass boat one!

The American Pickers guys are from my hometown!!! We always say we are going to stop by their shop when we go home to visit my family. We haven't yet.

Ugh, I vividly remember that overwhelmed feeling that overcomes you when deciding on port adventures. It can be really stressful, especially for first time cruisers...However, I think you made a good choice. That boat looks really cool!
