Does Disneyland Park (or DCA) do Mickey's Very Merry Christmas parties like they do at WDW?

I'd have expected dates/tickets by now so I assume no, thought I'd double check with the experts.

Thanks!

That's a big N - O. Every holiday attraction and show is included with the price of admission. You do have to pay for your hot cocoa and cookies (unless you book the holiday tour, but then, you have to pay for the tour). In Frontierland, Santa is there with his raindeer and sometimes Mrs. Clause. They have sugar cookies to decorate (agian, you have to pay for the cookie)

Not yet! However, I strongly suspect that we will see one in the next few years - maybe sooner.

For one thing, they just had the Halloween party in DL. That seems like it would have been a good test of how well that sort of event could be handled for a whole season in that park, so it would inform and guide them for future, similar, season-long ticketed events.

Also, given the massive makeover that DCA is currently undergoing, and the rumors that World of Color and Toy Story Midway Mania will both eventually get holiday overlays, as well as the rumor that the Candlelight Processional will move to DCA and away from its longtime home in DL, this leads me to believe that the Disney masterminds are hatching plans for other holiday things to put in Disneyland itself in the future - possibly in 2011, maybe not until the makeover is totally complete in 2012....or later. A MVMCP sounds like a likely guess for something to be a signature/flagship holiday event in DL if the Candlelight Processional moves to DCA!!

I hope you are right Sherry! We are making plans for an early December 2012 trip!!

Wouldn't this be a bad thing?

Right now the parade and the fireworks are included in the price of admission, no extra ticket required.

I don't know... I liked the MHP, and would easily pay for a Christmas Party if it meant that the lines were as short as they were for MHP and we didn't have to camp out for the parade and fireworks--again for the MHP the "cavalcade" and fireworks were practically a walk-up for us.

It wouldn't be bad if DL did a MVMCP just like at WDW. I thought the MHP was well controlled on the night when I participated. It was a great experience and I had a hunch that one day DL will do A MVMCP at DL in the future. Will this make the AP holders and non-ticket holders mad yes, since when they purchase the tickets and they always believe they are entitled to stay in the park for the whole day especially during a party night like MHP. I got to see and try out MVMCP at WDW next month and I'm looking forward ot it. I would like DL to continue the way they do during the Holiday season, but if they change it I have np with buying a separate ticket to an exclusive party like MHP.

I attended the MHP on Friday, Oct. 22nd and DLR was packed. The lines for the candy stations and the character meet 'n greets (especially for the villains) got very long within the first 15 minutes of the party :scared1: I think you were lucky and experienced lower crowds when you went toward the beginning of Halloweentime. I would love to see a MVMCP in DLR as well but am not sure that crowd levels will be any lower than it usually is during Christmastime (unless Disney really limits the number of tickets sold). If the party will simply draw more people to the parks, then I am not sure I would be as excited about attending a MVMCP.

Sorry, but I am NOT on board with DL "holding Christmas hostage" like they do at WDW's MK. I was more or less okay with them making Halloween Screams party exclusive this year since it was out of necessity...the nightmarish mobs of people that descended upon DL every night last October just for those fireworks was BEYOND anything that is seen during the usual Christmas season. A typical night in Nov-Dec. is really not any worse than fireworks/parade viewing most other times of the year (Other than Christmas week through New Year's of course, but that is insignificant since WDW doesn't even do parties during that time anyway, and DL probably wouldn't either). Basically you'd be paying $54 extra for something that has been included with daily admission for the past 10 years (Believe in Holiday Magic). 52 years if you count the history of Christmas parades at DL. If it's simply a matter of wanting to ride rides without any waits, then maybe Disney should have "ride" parties during other times of the year instead of messing with the tradition of Christmas entertainment.

If they ever do a private Christmas party for DL, I will be so sad and very upset with them. I love the fact that anyone who comes into the park can see all the extra stuff for free, that WDW charges a hard ticket for.

We went to WDW for Christmas in 2005, and I was so disappointed that we did not get to see any extra things cuz I couldn't fork out an extra $450.00 more dollars to get 10 of us in for the private party. That was when I was thankful that DL did not do that. I'm sure the price is way higher now to attend.

Please Disney, if you are reading this, do not go down the path of WDW, and take us "hostage" as Diznygrl was saying! :sad2:

I can't agree, we went to MVMCP in 2003 and loved it. They wern't the same shows and parades they were extra ones, but it was the little things that made it special like not waiting in a huge cue for your santa photo and the thing I remember most was sitting off to the side of the castle while about two dozen of us were entertained by a amazing story teller telling us a christmas story, there wasn't a crowd and it felt personal. I hope MVMCP or something similar comes to DL and helps make christmas in DL even more special.:santa:

Well I would prefer not to see something like that, but if they do, then I hope it is offered during the weeknights especially earlier in the season when the park closes a little earlier anyway. To take time at the park away from people, especially tourists who in some cases travel thousands of miles, spend thousands of dollars, and have only a limited time at the DLR, would be really awful. For the majority of people, these are expensive holidays that do not happen every couple of years, in some cases only once, or a few times in a life time. And as one poster said, adding on an additional few hundred dollars to a trip is just not doable. As someone else said, with the Halloween parties, it did not even make it more enjoyable with shorter lines, less crowds etc. and would that not be the point? We are lucky enough to be able to drive down pretty much every year, sometimes twice, and one year 3 times, so it would not make a huge difference to me personally, but I just think how hard it is for most families now trying to make ends meet in the first place. I can't imagine anything worse than sitting in your hotel room looking at Disneyland and the party going on there, knowing you bought a ticket to go to Disneyland, but now can't because you can't afford that extra cost. At WDW, there is so much more to do, in Anaheim, you are very limited to what you can do if DL is not available to you.

Hey Neighbor! You will love Disneyland!

They do not, and I hope they never do! This falls into the same class seperation as the idea of charging for Fastpasses.
I'm sorry, but not all of us have the resources to pay twice for one day at the park. I'm still really bummed about the huge price jack this year on the Halloween party. My kids are too young to understand why we couldn't go trick or treating at Disneyland for the first time in 5 years. How do you explain corporate greed to a seven year old? For most Americans in this economy, squeezing an extra $250 dollars out of a tight budget for 4 hours of entertainment isn't doable.
Again, i don't believe in paying twice for the same day at a theme park, and I love the fact that holiday entertainment at Disneyland is open to everyone, not just those with the most disposable income. Haunted Mansion Holiday, Small world Holiday, Santa and the Reindeer... I couldn't imagine if those were taken away and offered back for a price. I would ask the TDA execs to watch The Santa Clause 3 and ask if Jack Frost's version of Christmas is what they are.

That was what I thought too, about greed. It's really just another way of charging more money for the same thing, without actually charging more for the (original) ticket! Kinda like how everything you buy at the store is appearing in a "new, improved" but much smaller size for the same price! Honestly, I really feel for anyone trying to raise a family right now; our oldest son has 4 young children and they have a hard time. they managed 1 trip to DL a year and half ago, and are trying to save up for another one, but I think it will be another couple of years for them. DL is from what I've read and heard and seen very very different from WDW and I think a lot of things that fly over there would not here. I love our "cozy" park and hope it stays that way, a little more personal. to you and your family!
Also in my post before I mentioned tourists, but obviously it's hard on locals as well.... even more insulting in a way because Walt built the park as a place where people could go with their kids and have fun and escape reality (and I'm sure he was just thinking of local people then) I don't think he would be happy with greed creeping into his legacy.

As they often do this thread has gotten off on a tangent. And I worry about posting this because I don't want to be shunned from what is an amazing community of people that is an invaluable resource to feed my Disney craze.

I mean this with nothing but good intentions to add some perspective. So here is what I simply can't keep to myself anymore:

If your biggest problem is not being able to afford another $250 for your family's vacation to Disneyland, please count your blessings - you are very lucky and it seems you have plenty to be thankful and a wonderful life.

I agree ScottJayhawk, it seems all of us here on the boards who have been or are going to DL have a wonderful life. Smileyface2 We are some of those tourists that travel quite a distance to go to DL, and its for this very reason we rake up the money to go the little bit extra. When you are spending so much money really a couple of hundred dollars extra isn't worth quibbling about. We loved MVMCP. :thumbsup2

Oh I know, we are too! (although judging by how often you go in your signature, you are in quite a different bracket than I) and like I said, it would not affect me personally, but there are many many families out there who have to save up a long time, sometimes years to go, and for them yes indeed, 2 or 3 hundred dollars does make a difference!
Yes indeed Scottjayhawk...it has gone right OT therefore I myself will no longer be making contributions to the thread.

Another possible scenario is to have a MVMCP in DCA and keep the Candlelight Processional in DL. Somehow - not sure why - I just have a feeling that DLR wouldn't have both the CP and a party in Disneyland. Although, you never know...maybe they would have them both. But they could keep one big holiday event in DL and then have a party in DCA for a couple of years - maybe revolving around the possible holiday version of WoC, as that could be big 'draw' for the party.

If they are anxious to have Christmas a party soon, then they might have it in DL, but, otherwise, I could see TDA possibly waiting until all the work in DCA is done and then having a party there. I don't think they woud really have another party in DCA until at least late 2012, if not 2013. The Food & Wine Festival at DLR has been cancelled for 2011 and 2012. Right now there are no plans to have it in 2013 and its fate remains up in the air.
