Mickey's Revenge and Portable Brita

I've seen many posts about the portable Brita water bottles helping with the taste of Disney World water, but not any regarding whether the filter prevents the onset of Mickey's Revenge.

For years now, I've been using a constant supply of bottled water as I am prone to Mickey's Revenge. I find the iced tea is no longer a problem since it's brewed and the ice cubes don't seem to bother me anymore. However, I do try to stay away from their tap water.

Has anyone had any experience with Brita preventing stomach problems from the tap water?

I don't think the filters take out any bacteria or viruses. But then most bottled waters are local tap water, filtered just a bit, anyway (seriously, it's awful...Dasani is stinkin' tap water from the local bottling area), so you'd probably end up with just about the same thing by filtering it yourself.

But then I've heard that most of the drinking water at WDW is filtered anyway!

Might be best to figure out what exactly is causing your problems (I've never heard of people having problems other than from the taste of unfamiliar water) and see if the water in Orlando has that.

Been on these boards a long time and I've never heard of anyone getting sick from tap water at Disney. It's Disney - not a third world country. Couldn't hurt to give the Brita filters a try though if you are that concerned.

We went in May. I was so sick for 3 days and I finally figured out it was the water.

I need to have water for taking my meds and being sick with already dealing with cancer is not good.

We did a drink run with our town car before we checked in even. So I ended up just going into all the table service resteraunts with a can of nestea for the rest of the trip and asked all the servers to just bring me a glass of ice.

I had to have dh buy me a big bottle of water from the BC marketplace for the meds.

We will do the same for our dec. trip. Between dh and I in May we went through 24 cans of nestea. So I think we will get the same for December unless its too cold for the forecast.

I wouldnt even be willing to try the Brita for myself. I am sure it would not make much of a difference.

There's nothing wrong with the water at WDW other than the taste. If there was there would be thoudsands of cases of 'revenge' flooding the hospitals and walk in centers every day. Pun intended.

HOWEVER, some people (and their GI tracts) are very sensitive to changes in the water. Sometimes that is all it takes. If you know that you are one of these (and I am too), then by all means, go to Disney prepared. We always have a case of bottled water with us (we drive), and use it even to make our coffee in the morning. I've never had a problem since I started doing this. DH seems to have an iron gut: he can drink any water anywhere and never has a problem.

Yes my husband realized it was the water that was making him sick. His stomach problems at WDW stopped when he stopped drinking the water.

There is nothing in the water at WDW that would make you sick in the short term.

Long term, there is a debate to be had over the growing levels of pharmaceuticals, waste, etc. that is turning up in water. But nothing that would make someone go to Disney World and get sick.

If someone "gets better" when they stopped drinking the water it is far more probable that they got better because they are further removed from whatever it is s/he ingested (or was exposed to) that actually made them sick.

OOPS, I didn't mean to start a controversy or get folks riled up on the subject. I've been going to WDW for 34 years and am very loyal to Disney. However, my Midwest stomach started getting sensitive to the water there some time ago and I have been careful since.

I didn't mean to infer there is more bacteria in WDW water, it was probably more the change in the water for me. Unfortunately, it happened on quite a few trips before I figured it out. Let's leave it at that.

Whether it is the change in water or lower quality water, some people are more sensitive like you and my husband. He has no problem with our water back home, but on trips where he decided to drink water instead of soda he started getting upset stomachs until finally I pointed that out to him and he stopped. He did not have a problem on our last trip because he avoided the water.
