Putting aside whether he will want to keep the 3D glasses on, are there any scary moments in this show that could frighten a 2 1/2 year old?

There's nothing really scary, but the 3D effects can frighten some kids. My kids are 6 & 4 and they aren't crazy about 3D attractions. It is also very loud at times. Have fun!

Nothing in the show would be frightening.

Hmmm.....there is one thing that might be a slight problem but it depends on your child. Hopefully this will work, I put the spoiler in white, if you roll your curser over it, it should show up.

You do get sprayed with a slight bit of water at one scene. If they don't mind getting wet, it will be fine. If they don't like it, might not be happy. My 8 year old HATES it and I hadn't read about it so was not happy. The next time we did it on a tour, they just held their hands over the speaker/effect thingy in front of them when it was the water scene. Unfortunately, I can't remember when it was as there are 2 water scenes. Only 1 sprays on you.

We took our 4yo and 19mo in nov...the 4yo loved it! our 19mo did as well...even w/the glasses off. We tried the glasses on our little one, but there was no way she was keeping them on. She did, however, sit and watch the whole show, and laughed and pointed at things. We skipped the other 3d shows cuz I know what they're like and this is different....nothing scary.

Our youngest is was just a little over 3 and he loved it!! The 3-D is amazing he kept trying to grab in front of him. It is a little loud but truly Disney magic pixiedust:it was one of our favorite things.

Thanks all - love that trick of writing in white. Generally don't like to read spoilers, but I needed to know for my son's sake. My boy LOVES getting wet (possibly a little too much), so I don't think that will be problem. And we will probably plug his ears for loud volume attractions.

My DS loved Philarmagic except for the water. I think if I'd known in advance and been able to prepare him he would have been fine, but he freaked when it happened.

When my DD was 2, she was scared during the part of the movie where the instruments are mad at Donald...it wasn't any 3d effects...just that they were "mad and were hurting him" according to her.

We went last year when my ds's were 2.5yo and 10mo. They both liked it. My youngest didn't keep the glasses on, but still enjoyed it. My 2.5yo really liked it and didn't seem to mind the noise or the water. We are looking forward to watching again this year when we go in May.

I remember some small children gasping when Simba says he's going to practice his roar and it looks like he's going to swallow the audience! Otherwise, nothing I can think of! :sunny:

The loudness of the show and the dark really scared my 2 year old. She isn't frightened easily, but at least you can always just walk out if it is scary.

Last year we went with my then 3 year old. She was scared. While planning this trip she has already mentioned she does not want to go to the scarry movie again.

I think most of what kids *might* have an issue with has been covered.

The muppets one has ALOT of loud noises and things blowing up. In fact my now 5 year old DD doesn't like muppets and she used to until she saw that show. She still won't go in. (not scary but again lots of things blowing up, very loud.)

HISA can be scary too (we have never tried to take DD in it. In fact the last time I saw it I was pregnant with her.)

Mickeys has nothing like that, it is much more kid friendly.

Remember if a child is scared of the 3D, take the glasses off. They don't seem to mind the blurness and it isn't freaky at all then.

My 6 year old doesn't like the 'mop' scene. The ONLY way she'll go to this attraction is with a poncho on! The people around are all like "are we going to get wet?" She also wears a poncho at the Little Mermaid show as well.

Obviously, it all depends on the kid. My 2.5 yr old DD absolutely loved Philharmagic. And, she liked It's Tough to be a Bug, which everyone said would be wayyy to scary. The only thing she said was too scary was the Movie Ride at MGM (okay, parental mind slip, totally forgot this might be scary). And even then, she just told us "too scary" after instead of "again", which is what she said after all the other rides! :)

As you have already have formulated...it depends on the child.

In essence there is nothing designed to be scarey, but it is the level of stimulation and how the child interupts the 3-D objects projecting out towards them. Some objects appear to be right on top of you making fast motions toward you...close enough many adults can be observed reaching out to touch items during the show.

It is worth taking your child to see, but allow yourself options and a game plan to exit if your child becomes overwhelmed by the 3-D objects.

It is sad to hear some children remain in some of the 3-D shows at WDW, when even a stranger can tell from the childs crys and calls for help(protection) have reached their max. It provides the impression their parents care more to see the show, rather than miss the show and help their child.
