Still...

Long would it take to sell out the Christmas party oldest to 12/25?
They sold out 2 months of the frozen thing (much smaller number of course) within days of sales.

Just saying..I don't see the upsell as "crowd control"

Without a doubt I think this party is a way of dealing with expected crowds. We just saw this weekend that people are very eager to get close to the villains, who are generally rarely out and about. This event gives people who are most eager an opportunity to pay and guarantee they get to meet at least some villains. Of course it is also a cash grab. My main worry about this however is that this event helps bolster the feeling within Disney that they are justified in overselling the event because, if people really want to meet the villains they do have a chance to guarantee they can meet them.

I'm not even going to get into the issue that this party is catering to the wealthy (i.e. for most families this would bring one night's cost to attend in and around the $1000 range) or how this manages customer complaints. As I can only speculate about how this demographic complains about not getting their money's worth relative to any other demographic. But I would guess this will help decrease the complaints of a vocal group when the party ends up too crowded.

We know that Halloween is already sold out. I'd be curious to know exactly how many tickets that means. What is the max capacity for each party and how does that compare to max capacity in previous years.

I'm already paying a premium price for the Halloween party. Generally speaking, I expect to see Villains at a Halloween party. To squirrel them all away unless you shell out another $100 (per person!) to see them and get a handful of desserts is frustrating for anyone who is already paying the premium Halloween price.

I would hope that "max capacity" for the MNSSHP is considerably lower than the Villains Unleashed sales. We were thinking of going to that but eventually passed due to other obligations. I'm kind of glad we did, my husband would have been incensed.

There will be villains throughout the park to meet, and even some to dance with.

You have to put it in perspective. Look at the sell out dates for the last few years.

2014: Aug 21st
2013: Oct 4th
2012: Oct 28th

Now I highly doubt Disney is selling less tickets to these events so that's a huge increase in demand.

Max capacity used to be about 12,000 or so for the Halloween and Xmas parties...
Undoubtedly they have bumped that up over the years...but nowhere a normal crowd/day.

Remember...it's limited staff...which means they would charge a regular gate charge if they had to employ full employees to service a full crowd...even if only for half the normal hours.

No doubt...business is on the rise.

But it's not a mobbed process to get tickets...like a breakfast with Cinderella.

The cost scares many people away...Disney knows that.

That said...they'll continue to push the boundary..which is exactly what this dessert party is.

I got to say that the idea of paying for a hard ticket event within a hard ticket event rubs me the wrong way. This Soiree makes me worry that I am going to get ripped off for the regular MNSSHP if I don't buy it. It feels like they plan to oversell this, as they did the Villain's Party this weekend, and then when I can't get near a character it will be justified because I didn't spend more money. I'm already dropping about $400 to get my family into the party and now I'm supposed to drop another $500 for preferred seating and desserts. I know this is not something Disney will ever consider, but how about you just not oversell the event so that people don't have to wait 3 hours in line for characters, food or parties? Sigh.

I couldn't agree more. We've never done the MNSSHP and the tickets for our fam of 5 were already a splurge in addition to what we've already spent on this trip. I really hope it will be worth the $ spent. I have this feeling of dread that it's going to rain like crazy...

That is hours they would normally be open full-staff, though. They get to pare down staff and charge an additional fee. If you look at the calendars, the EMHs and regular closing times of other months (of 11pm-2am) line up on non "special event" months as far as hours open. Daytime visits start to slow down for fall/winter (other than Christmas week).

The daytime people will still have paid for their day at the park, the evening entry fees are extra. Plus the additional merchandise, etc. they get to sell on top of the regular daytime stuff.

It would be safe to assume a Tuesday in the slowest travel weeks of the year 45 days early would be "lightly attended"...

But there's no way to know for sure

That's strange to me. We were at the second seating and didn't feel rushed at all. We knew it was an hour going in. We finished our cheese plate and enjoyed all of the desserts. We met all of the characters. It was completely worth the price.

While some may not feel rushed, others may. It is all about perception. If one wants to get the most out of their money then being asked to leave before you are ready would make one feel rushed, as would someone trying to remove one's plate before one is finished eating. It would seem that maybe the second seating would be better as one could make the rounds of the attractions before the soiree?

I personally, find it WAY over priced for a couple slices of salami and apple tarts. Getting my picture with the Villains, or any character for that matter, isn't worth an extra $100 per person, but that is just my opinion!

This event was thrown together at the last minute without adequate planning...IMHO!!
