This is our first year attending the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. My husband and I will be taking our 7 yr old son on the first night for a birthday present. Can anyone tell me a little about the event and ways to make it extra special? Also, I wanted to know if anyone is aware of when Disney will begin to sell their costumes for boys on the Disney shopping site? Right now, they really aren't offering anything for boys.

Thank you!:dance3:

I would make Reservations at either Liberty Tree Tavern or Crystal Palce and let them know it is his Bday, you could either order a cake or I think he will get a free cupcake.. Make sure you get a Bday button at City Hall.

There are spots through out the park where they give out candy and there are also dance party spots, where there is a DJ and Characters. Make sure he wears his Bday button.

Maybe you could make up a little surpise bag for him and sneak it in so he doesn't see it. Go into City Hall first and tell them you are going to come back in with your son to get a Bday Button and can they also hand him the bag and tell him Disney says Happy Birthday!

We did something like that last year my DS can't eat the candy because of his allergy. So I made a bag up and had a cast memebr give it to him in exchage for his candy bag since he could have the candy.

Also for his Bday one time we took the Family Tour in MK then had our guide give my son a treasure map after the tour. It was for a scavanger hunt and ten had one of the Train guys hand my son a gift at the end of his hunt.
{The Engineer is that the one who drives the train? Well he said he couldn't do. So one of the other guys did}

So you see I think with the right cast member anything is possible.

Ditto on the Crystal Palace. The character interactions are great there.

If you want to get your pics with the characters in Tune Town all dressed in their Halloween garb, get there before the party begins. Tune Town becomes impossible to access once everyone is in the park. A literal sea of people.

Get your wrist bands as soon as they begin handing them out. Ask a CM when and where that will be. They will give you a program for the evening's events at that time as well. The Boo to You parade will run twice (IIRC) and the headless horsemen will ride through the street just prior to the start of the parade. He goes by very quickly so have your video camera ready.

There will be Trick Or Treat stations set up in various spots. They are all basically the same and IMO not worth the wait. You just stand in line and grab some candy from a cast member... So on our next trip, we'll do one or two and then enjoy the night. Goofy also throws candy out to the crowd at the end of the parade so if you have a TOT bag, you can collect then too.

The rides will be pretty much empty so anything you missed during the day can be ridden at night. But some attractions might close completely (like the Hall of Presidents). Again, you can ask a CM who has done the parties before and they will give you great tips.

There are special shows at the castle that are really nice. And the fireworks are truly spectacular. So if you want to see/enjoy these, arrive early for a good spot.

You could honestly spend the entire night just taking in the shows, parade, extras and fireworks. So my best recommendation for this event is to do the MK that day. Arrive early and see/do all the things that you want to so that when the party begins you are free to enjoy it without feeling that you missed out on something in the Kingdom.

HTH. Enjoy! We're going again in October too and I can't wait.:yay:

Should we try to see all of the dance parties? or Is there one that is better than the others? My son loves Pirates, Buzz and Woody.

Is there a portion of the character stations that are mostly princesses? My son doesn't like to meet the princesses - so we would probably want to stay away from those.

Also does anyone know where I can purchase Disney costumes for him? The disney shopping website doesn't have any costumes for boys yet.

Count'n the days!:wizard:

I would go to the Dance Party at Cosmic Rays, I think it is called Stitch's dance Party. You will find Goofy, Donald, Chip and Dale, Pluto and Stitch there.

If you look up MNSSHP on the home page, You should find last years info on it to give you and idea what they have.

when we were there in '05 the villians did a show at the castle and had meet and greets after. so if they still have it get up front so you'll be first to see them after
MNSSHP is my favorite thus far
will be doing MVMCP in dec. this year
can't wait

For Costumes try

I have ordered from them before and they are pretty good. Not the same quality but still good.

:confused3 I need advice on something. We are going to the Halloween party for the 1st time and although I have read and read, I am not sure what to expect.
We do plan on spending the 1st 1/2 of the day in MK (9am -1pm) then coming back to the hotel to rest since my kids are young - 5 and 3 yrs old - until about 5:30 to go the Crystal Palace for dinner and then the party. (I want to make sure we get to stay for the fireworks.) Although, my kids are normally in bed by 9am, I am hoping they will still be alert and happy to stay for them.

My question is: is there so much halloween stuff to do that we won't want to go on the rides there? I was hoping to finish up the park rides during the party, but am worried there will be so much other stuff to do that we won't want to. I have 1 other day planned at MK from 10am - 4pm and then the Halloween day from 9am-1pm and then the MNSSHP at night. Will that be enough time there?

I found out the hard way, that there are no photopass photographers in front of the castle with the Villians..bring your camera..Cruella De'Ville comes out and I haven't seen her in YEARS!

There are usually 2 dance parties - 1 princess-y theme one (in Ariel's grotto) and 1 w/Goofy Chip and Dale (and maybe someone else?) in Cosmic Rays. I wouldn't plan on spending sooo much time there. Quick visit for a few songs maybe...they get a little hectic. The characters on the dance floor are surrounded by the kids that want to dance with them...but then the kids are bum-rushed by the parents that have to get their little sweethearts closer to whichever character is there...because clearly their child deserves it more than anyone elses. :headache:
As far as the costumes, I remember buying some for my son sometime in mid-August. They never have nearly the same size selection for boys as they do for girls, but if he's OK with Woody or Capt. Jack, it should be relatively easy to find...they're even in the store at that point.

There's a lot of Halloween stuff, but not overwhelming so you should be fine. Don't forget, you can get into the party as early as 4:00 using just your party tix. From my experience, the best time to be going around the park and hitting up the rides is between 5 and 7...party-goers are just starting to come in, people without party tix are on the way out, and lots of people are having dinner so the lines are super-short.
During the party I'd hit maybe 1 or 2 trick or treat stations - they just give away candy and last time we went it was mostly air heads and stuff we didn't like anyway...and your kids are little so they probably won't care so much...better to use that time to go on some rides. Since you'll be in the park before the party officially starts, try to position yourself near one of the character meet and greet areas at about 6:30 or as soon as you're done with dinner. (They'll be listed on the party park map) since the lines will be much shorter right at opening than probably any other time of the night.

And whatever you do, DON'T MISS THE PARADE. I promise you'll be hooked and the song will be stuck in your head until at least Christmas - but in a good way.;)

We've gone a few times so if you have any other specific questions, feel free to ask. Granted we've not been since 2006, but from what i read, it did not sound like much changed last year.

We went in 2006. It was a blast. The parade was great and so are the fireworks. The villains show was really entertaining too. Some of the rides were packed and others we walk on. The character greets we saw had some pretty long lines so we didn't meet a lot of characters.

I really wish we had gone into the parks early in the afternoon, around 4ish to get some of the rides out of the way and that would've given us more time to do other stuff.

We might be going to Disney in October for Taekwondo Fall Nationals at Disney Wide World of Sports. If we go we're seriously thinking about doing MNSSHP again.

thanks for your post scarlet m I found it really helpful.

You are very welcome. :)

I would get as much out of the way before the party as possible because you can truly spend the evening taking in the party. If you plan all of your must do's and cover them prior to the party, it will allow you stress free time to take it all in.

We did the party last year and missed a few things in the park during the day thinking that we would get to them at night. But with the parade, fireworks and shows being fixed, long and best to see from a good spot, it made for a little more racing back and forth than I would have liked. This year, I plan on doing the park early and then once at the party, giving that our full attention. Any rides/attractions that we may happen upon in between will just be a bonus.

FWIW, My kids were 4 & 1 last year and neither of them slept a wink. Their normal bed times are 7 ish and definitely done by 9 on a late night. But NOT in Disney. The baby napped here and there but my oldest was a machine. Your downtime at the pool sounds heavenly. I'm betting that it's all they'll need. ;)

We went in 06 and I can't say enough about this party!! It was truly a wonderful, magical experience!! My DH, who enjoys WDW a little more each trip, still raves about it! Even to perfect strangers he sees wearing disney shirts etc. "Have you been for Halloween?! You have to go for Halloween!! It's so much fun!"

We went on Halloween night, we all dressed up

The parade was fantastic!! The best WDW parade by far! The fireworks were great, although we like the P&PP fireworks better! The trick or treating was great! I could go on and on!!

You will not be let down by this party!!

I completely agree with you..."Boo To You" is hands down the best parade, but we completely were blown away by the P&PP fireworks!

And I love your costumes - when we went in '06, I was dressed as Minnie and my son was dressed as Mickey too! (My husband was goofy)

Do a lot of people dress in costume? I'm torn between just wearing halloween shirts or having the kids dress up.

Lots of people (adults and kids) dress up, lots don't. You'll be fine either way. If you do decide to dress up, don't forget you'll be climbing in/out of rides, so you don't want anything too cumbersome or uncomfortable. And if your kids are little, bring a change of clothes. My husband and son lasted a while in their costume, but it was hot out and it was nice to have shorts and a t-shirt to throw on instead.
