My question is about tickets. Do I have to purchase tickets for my kids ? ages 5,3,1 or just for my husband and I ?

and does the party ticket get us into the park or do I have to use one of my days on the regular ticket ?

There is an FAQ for MHP on the HalloweenTime SuperThread (post #3). That's the concentrated place for all things Halloween!

To answer your specific questions, yes, you need to purchase a MHP ticket for all guests ages 3 and up. So your five and three year olds will need a MHP ticket; the one year old will not. AFAIK, there is no child's ticket, but there may be an advance purchase discount depending on which night you go.

The party ticket will allow you to enter Disneyland (only) three hours before the start of the party. So on night when the party starts at 6:00 pm, you can enter DL at 3:00 pm and on nights when the party starts at 7:00 pm, you can enter DL at 4:00 pm. It is not a park hopper ticket, so you cannot get into DCA. You can enter and exit DL as much as you'd like/need to use the MHP ticket, but make sure you get your wristband when you enter the first time. If you want to enter DL before the MHP ticket is valid, you will need to use a regular park ticket.
