I've never tried riding this before-- is it possible to only have your party with you in your gondola or do you necessarily have to ride with strangers?

We've never had to ride with strangers--we are a party of 4, so I wonder if they do put you with others if you only have, say, two people? Good question... I would like to know, too!

If it is busy they will load parties of 1, 2, or 3 with other parties of 1, 2 or 3. There is no way to guarantee your own car but you have a better chance during a low crowd time. They usually announce this while you are in line over the PA.

If you have 4, you will get your own car. Since they seat 3 per side, they will not make you sit with strangers on your side.

Yup! Go first thing in the morning when the line is shortest to have the best chance of not having to share the car.

When we were there in February/March we got to ride as a couple with no strangers.

We went last month, and the line wasn't that long (10 minutes maybe) and they made my 6 year old son and I ride with another couple. I'm not totally anti-social or anything, but still, I would have preferred to just have the gondola to ourselves, but didn't want to seem like a snob by asking the CM if we could have our own gondola.

I mean, some people have social anxiety and fear having to look at other people when confined in a little cage up in the air.

In our case, it would be that I wouldn't want to put anyone else through the actions of two boys who like to try to swing the gondola's! Lol!

I could never ride this with anyone besides my family. I don't need strangers seeing me in such a blubbering state of fear. :scared:

The one time I went with just me and my two boys they wanted to put us in with another family. It was during September so the crowds were pretty low. I really don't like this ride because I am afraid of heights :scared1: but my youngest loves it so I braved it for him. I asked the cm if we could have our own gondola she told me no. I told her I would really like to have our own and she rolled her eyes at me but did let us be by ourselves. (That honestly was the one of the only times a cm was rude to me but I just let it go. Most are wonderful so not going to let one ruin it for me. ;) ) It was hard enough for me to go on that darn ride, I didn't need to be sitting next to complete strangers. It was not busy at the time, the line was only about 10 to 15 minutes. :confused3

Ugh, I would hate getting stuck in a gondola with somebody who insists on making small talk the entire time, it would make the entire ride un-enjoyable. I am a polite person, so I would go along with it, just to be nice, but it still makes me uncomfortable having to smile when somebody says something dumb. I also don't like answering questions about myself to a complete stranger.

Also, adults that don't have kids with them probably don't want to end up riding with somebody else's kids.

I think for 99% of people, the idea of having to share a gondola with strangers is cringe-worthy.

I have had to share, and I have also been by myself. It really depends on the CMs and the line. Often times they do put other people in with you if you are a party of 2 or 3. And a lot of times that depends on if the people behind you in line are also a party of 2 or 3. You can always just say 4 at the front of the line and then get in with two people. They wont really have time at that point to find another party of 2.

Getting matched up with other folks isn't always bad. I know a couple that got seated with another party...turns out that the other party were Club 33 members and they were asked if they had been on RSR yet and ended up being giving Fast Passes RSR good for later that night!

No word if they made enough of a connection for a reservation!

We are a party of 3. I think we have always been put with another family in the gondola. We ride the non-swinging side, and we usually don't get in line if the line is more than 20 minutes. Normally it doesn't bother us and we have met some nice people. The only time it has ever bothered us was the time that 2 kids by us in line were being really rude to DD and their Dad was not stopping them. We were initially set to all be in the same car, but I think someone must have seen what was going on because we got pulled from the line and put in a car with a different family. Then a couple that had been in front of us got put in the car with the 2 kids that were being rude to DD.

Wow...not bad!
