Mickey's backyard bbq

MBB in the backyard would be great. My husband can be goofy, 6ft 7in. with big ears the kids wouldn't know the difference. I'm sure we could fix some down home food.

Well, i'm off to chuch as well. We may need to move to the chit chat thread later.

Wow! He's nearly 2 feet taller than me!

Yeah, we may need to move this conversation to useless chitchat!

Sorry Rhonda!:thumbsup2

:jumping1: Your quite welcome. Just trying to spread that Diney Spirit!

We went to the BBQ about 8 years ago. Had never been and were looking for something different. We had been to Hoop Dee Doo Revue already. The BBQ would be great for kids the ages of the OP's. I think as they get older...maybe not so much. We were sort of borderline at the time as my son was around 9 and my daughter was 13. He thought he as going to be too old for it..and she was..well she was being 13. She was bored. The meal is typical BBQ..hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, corn on the cob..that sort of thing. You sit family style at long picnic tables. I think this would be especially fun if you are going with other families. They have a live country music band..so it's a plus if you enjoy country music(I do!)...they had some line dance instruction. The characters came out and made appearances several times. The children can line up for autographs. My son was "Mr. Maturity" at first, but then he joined right in, and wanted photos with all the characters. At the end of the evening the characters did come out and dance amongst the guests..and by that time the kids had so much interaction with them, no one was swarming them for autographs as you might see in the theme parks. I have read however, that this is not always the case, and I've seen some reviews that the characters didn't dance with the guests. Being that it's been 8 years for us..it certainly may have changed. I think it might be an especially nice meal for those with little ones, as they don't have to remain seated..given the picnic tables and mood of the event. It did cost less than the Hoop Dee Doo, and is located in an outdoor pavillion. We went in May and the weather was delightful..they did use some overhead fans..but not much else was need. I would imagine that if they have this show in the hotter summer months, it might not be nearly as enjoyable.

We did the BY BBQ just four days ago..should be a hit with little kids. My DS9 enjoyed it, but my DS15 was in country music hell and was jonesing for his Ipod. The food was very good and overall was a lot of fun. Micky, Minnie, Goofy, and Chip N Dale all danced with the kids and came around for pics and autographs. I wish we had done it about 6 years ago..little late for my crew.

Get there EARLY:banana:

Yes..we had the same experience..the then nine year old was fine..but my daughter was 13..and she was in a mood. I thought the same thing at the time, I wish we had known about it when the kids were younger. I'm glad we did it, but I doubt we'd go again. It is a good choice for those with young families.

Okay, so would really young old people without kids enjoy it? The food and BEER are sounding pretty tempting :):lmao:

Yes, I think so. It is just the folks in those funny teen years that could have a problem with it. My mom was with us last year when we went to it and she enjoyed herself.

We went 6 yrs ago, and the characters DID NOT come out and dance either...it was stricktly "line up, smile for the camera, and move on"...and the lines were just as long as in the parks. That was disappointing because we were expecting it to be like other character meals as far as interaction. But the food was.....well, pretty decent BBQ......and the show was pretty entertaining. We enjoyed it despite the lack of character interaction. Im glad to hear they have changed that.

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like something we would definetly enjoy, so I think we'll give it a try. We will be down in June so I hope it isn't too hot and we don't get rained out.

Yeah I would like to know if it is worth doing. I have no kids but I gota eat so :confused3

This is one of the few meals we have not done, but it has mixed reviews for those with little ones and since it's just the two of us now we just do the TE buffet. I don't thing it was available until our sons were well into their teens anyway.

We went with BIL and his girlfriend. If we had not had the kids with us, it still would have been a great time!

I may have to try and add that to our itinerary.

Ami, I have to say your pictures in your signature are always so beautiful. You have a very photogenic family. Are you a photographer??

You know, I've read that before....about the characters not interacting or dancing around with the people. I guess we were lucky because they did. I will admit there were lines when the autographs and picture times came..but there were quite a few characters, and they came out ALOT...and the lines moved quickly. That's why by the end of the evening everyone had pretty much met with them. They danced among the crowd and it was nice to see. We were able to get some cute pictures. I'm not so sure it's a couples thing. That's just me...but I'd pass if I didn't have the kids to take. Since they are WAY past it now.... I'd do Hoop Dee Doo instead..if it were just the two of us.

You're very sweet. No, I'm not a photographer, although IMO my kids make great subjects :rolleyes1 These last ones are professionally done, though. I said on another thread that I like to change my sig like I rearrange furniture. But I'm not indecisive. .....I think.....certainly not.......maybe....;)

:rotfl: I wish I could rearrange my signature so much, but I'm technologically challenged and I haven't posted enough. Maybe, eventually I can. Indecisiveness is a character trait I enjoy myself :confused3 . It's fun!

:lmao: Like a put under my avatar "I'm a frickin' carnival!" My dear hubby discovered that when we we're were dating and he wanted to marry me anyway :confused3 He does like roller coasters. I'm most like Space Mountain though. You can't tell whats coming next.

Glad to meet another free spirit! :goodvibes (that sounds better than confused and indecisive)

What was this topic again?

Oh! BBQ! It's fun, you should try it :thumbsup2

My experience was the same. We were there in 2002 and although the food was good and there was plenty of beer but the characters did not interect as i expected. It was a matter of wait in another line, autograph and picture and move on. They had a band and a guy doing lasso tricks but my dd was not interested. She was 10 at the time. I wouldnt spend the money on it again.

Hey all! We just got back from the Fort on Sunday and I'm in the process of writing my extensive trip report. :goodvibes We did the BBQ on our first night there and all loved it!! The food was really good, the ribs were super yummy, and there was plenty of it. The characters were Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale...all dressed in western wear. Lots of great interaction and photo ops!! I would highly recommend this dinner to anyone. :thumbsup2 We all had a great time and it was an excellent kick-off to our vacation. Here are some of our pics!
