I have made reservations for Mickey's Backyard BBQ for our trip in September. I am bringing my 3 nieces ages 4, almost 3 and 18 months at the time of the trip.

Is the BBQ suitable for children this small or am I being delusional that they will have fun?

When making the reservation, I was told that the characters do not come to the tables like the other character meals and that we would have to stand in a line to do a meet and greet. (which I don't mind doing) We have all of our meals planned but this is the one that I keep second guessing myself on. I'm considering cancelling the reservation and moving on to a different character meal.

Just back from WDW and went to Mickey's BBQ Tuesday night. It was FABULOUS my dd2 and ds5 had a wonderful time. No the characters don't visit the tables, they actually danced with the kids. This was a great experience that our whole group enjoyed (incluing my MIL 55 and FIL 65). My dh enjoyed the draft beer too :). There was a trick roper, and line dance instruction. I know Disney calls this a show rather than a character dining expericne, but it was beyond a character dining experience. Truley fun for all ages :thumbsup2

We were at the BBQ last summer. My DD2 and DS7 had a blast. The food is average. It is not bad, but nothing special either. It is very laid back. There are long tables inside an outdoor pavilion. The food is set-up buffet style. I thought that the lines moved pretty fast. After you start eating, the music starts. It is country music. The characters come out and the kids are free to go and dance with them. I thought that the characters did a good job of dancing with the kids. They were good about not letting any one child monopolize their time. My daughter was so excited about getting to dance with Minnie Mouse. It really is made for young kids. It isn't a place a would recommend going if you didn't have kids. They also do things like line dancing instruction and things like that. I actually think that it is a great place for kids your age, because they are free to move around and dance. They aren't confined to sitting at dinner and waiting for the characters to come to them.
