What are your opinions on Mickey's Backyard BBQ vs. Hoop De Doo Review? Our kids will be almost 4 and 7 months old and we are staying at the Wilderness Lodge Villas.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Kim

For young children, I would suggest the BBQ over the Review. You have the characters the kids can enjoy at the BBQ, where I would find the Review more for an adult crowd.

We just returned, first week in December, and took our group which consisted of 1 infant, 11 months, and she had the time of her life.....she grinned and cheered...interacted with the performers....and ate.

I've looked at the Backyard BBQ....first off...it's outside in a pavilion, you serve yourself, same for drinks....I'd rather be inside, A/C, no bugs or sweat....enjoy the antics of good performers to a real funny skit...have servers brining me as much food and drink as I want.

We've attended the HDDR over 15 times, yes 15 times, and it just keeps getting better and better.....and the servers are johnny on the spot on food refills and drink pitchers....we never have to ask, they ask us.....

Back yard BBQ for the kids..
Hoop de Do in two to three years when they are older..

I had an interesting experence last time. During a show some young family though it was fun to have their toddler(11/2 tops) play on the ledge behind the railing(top level), way not safe, the kid was not just sitting either, no one said anything to them, well after 20 mins of getting distracted I brought it up but the waiter told me it was their kid, she didn't even ask them to stop!

DS3 really enjoyed Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Really everyone did. DS liked the rope tricks and characters. We all liked the country music band. DW and DD19 did step dancing. The characters danced on the floor too.

DS4 (year later in 2009) really had a great time at Hoop-Dee-Doo. I didn't think he would enjoy it but he laughed non-stop. Our waitress brought him a big stool so he could see better, and we had fun joking around with her.

Videos of both are on youtube. While at Wilderness Lodge, why not do both????

We have done both and prefer HDDR. My kids have loved HDDR since they were toddlers. We did not like that the BBQ is outside and you do not have a table for just your family. Also, when my kids were younger it was hard to do the serve yourself thing and get seating, etc. I love the IDEA of the BBQ, but in reality the HDDR is just better all around for us.

It depends on your kids. My son is a picky eater and can get restless at the dinner table...or sitting through a show. Backyard BBQ is great for him (we went 2 yrs ago when he was almost 3) as he can get up and dance with the characters or just get up and walk around. Nearby the eating area there's a little play yard that he had a great time at and there's other play areas around for kids....DH liked the BBQ as they served beer and it tasted good on a hot night. Plus the kids like to pick from all the Disney ice cream treats they offer for dessert. The food is fine - hamburgers, hot dogs and such...but it's a great place for little kids who can't sit still.

Plus if the 7-month old gets fussy and cries or something you really don't have to worry too much about taking her away so she doesn't disturb the show...it's so noisy and lots of music she probably won't be heard.

We're going to book the BBQ again this year when we go in August. I'd like to do Hoop De Doo, (did it a long time ago and loved it) but I think it will be better for my son when he is older.

I was making the same decision (HDDR or BBQ) prior to our trip in November 2010 with DD6 and DS5. We went to HDDR and had a great time. DD enjoyed the song and dance. DS enjoyed that too, and the toilet humor. Most importantly, DW and I had a fantastic time too. I certainly felt it was worth the money, and I'm not certain I would have felt the same with regards to BBQ, although I have never been.

We'd go back to HDDR, that's how much we enjoyed it.

We took DS to the BBQ last fall and absolutely loved it. It was a highlight of the trip. I was at HDD years ago and loved that too, but I think we're going to wait until DS is closer to 6 to try that. If your oldest loves dancing and music, the BBQ will be fantastic.
