Mickey's Backyard BBQ on 4th of July

Anyone have any insight as to why the 4th of July costumes weren't used at the BBQ this year? I know that it was never publicized by Disney that the characters would be appearing in holiday attire, but every review I read online, dating back several years, included characters dressed for the holiday. However, they were in their regular BBQ attire on Monday - and no way I would have forced my family to sit through an outdoor dining event in July for something I could have seen any other time of the year!!! Such a disappointment :(

If someone knows about why that happened, do we think it will be the same on Thanksgiving? We were contemplating doing it this year but if they don't have any extra characters available I will stick with my res on another day...(I had decided against it originally because I heard the regular food was much better than the Thanksgiving offerings there).

This is not news or rumors.

Why would Disney change things up for the 4th of July? They never do anything special other than fireworks for 4th of July.

Sorry if I posted this question in the wrong place, but they actually DO change things up for the 4th of July show (at least they did up until this year), so this would be news to anyone who's attended in the past - or is considering it for next year. And I was trying to see if anyone had heard any rumors as to why Disney cut that portion out this year, as it was the sole reason I booked the event on that day. Still hoping someone may have some insight.

I would say nothing is set in stone with Disney. What they do one year they won't necessarily do the next year.

You already answered your own question OP.

It was never guaranteed to happen ever. Looks like the years past it was nothing more than a magical moment. (The spontenius or random act of magic that doesn't go with standard practice.) Seeing as Disney didn't advertise it when you booked and you just went off a random guests review kinda puts you in place. I always tell guests, believe signs, mofficial publication, and what a CM working THAT particular department tells you. Just because someone working dumbo says the monorail goes to Seaworld doesn't mean it does.

With all that being said Maybe the festive attire was being used somewhere else on property that conflicted with the BBQ. Maybe the costuming manager for the BBQ forgot to request it, the world may never know.

Believe me, I've been around long enough to know that the only consistency with Disney and CMs is inconsistency, but I didn't make my plans based off of one person's review one year. For several years characters have been appearing in holiday attire on the 4th - it wasn't a "magical moment." Either way, wasn't posting to be put in my place, was just genuinely curious why it was cut this year, and if this is just another sign of the times with Disney, and budget cuts all around, thought others may benefit from my experience if they were considering this "holiday" event in the future.

I for one am glad to know they didn't have anything special for July 4, and I don't know why you're being so rude about it to the OP - after all we are here to exchange info about things like that, at least now I know there might be a good chance of them also cutting the extra characters at Thanksgiving.
