Hi I was wondering if there was anybody else out there that collect mickey banks? I have them in glass, tin, composite, cast iron, ceramic and plastic. majority of my collection is pre 1970. My most recent find was a 1930 Zell mickey mouse trift thrift book bank. Never realized there were so many different styles. aquired some newer plastic one from garage sales this summer. Just wondering if there are any other mickey fanatics out there.

Thanks,Ron:smooth:

Your collection sounds wonderful. I just have alot of the plastic ones - but I love everyone of them. I put money in them for my Mickey trips.

I havea couple but only the ones that fit my collections already - Snow White, Villians etc..

Sounds like a great collection, I didn't realize there were that many.

Hi!
I have a few banks. Mostly plastic ones that show up at garage sales and the ones they sell in the parks. I suggest looking at Tomart's Guide to Disneyana if you really want to get fired up about your collection.

Thanks for your replies. Darlene I don`t know why,but I save my disney change in baby food jars (nothing in my banks)

tiggers mom you would not believe how many different banks there are, especially if you collect all the plastic ones (my wife wants to kill me, I have to sell my curio cabinet to buy a larger one - I have to many mickey for the small one(its only 6 months old) thought it would be big enough - HAHA!!!!

gene what is this book ?????????? and WHERE can I find -please let me know

Thanks,Ron

Hi!
The 4 volume Tomart's Guide to Disneyana is out of print. There is a smaller one vol. update that is out of print too. There is a magazine that comes out every 2 months or so but banks are not included very often. Your only hope is Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com and you would be buying used paperbound books. The plastic Disney banks are almost kid proof so they are very common in collectable toy stores and antique shops. Old kid banks are collectable in general so you are also competing with those collectors as well.
Tom Tumbush (sp?) is the author. He sometimes has a table at toy shows.
There is a website for his magazines. The back issues are for sale.

I don't collect Mickey banks, but I do collect Coca-Cola banks. I have three: one that I put coins in, one that I put single dollars in (save those for tipping mousekeeping, etc.), and one that is just decoration. I collect a lot of Coca-Cola stuff, but the banks are my favorite! :)

Debi my collection started with a old cast iron book end bank of Mickey. right now i have about 25 banks, I have some much fun finding them. Do coca cola banks come in cast iron ? I also collect regular cast iron banks. Thanks for your reply - Ron

Ron, I only have the 3 banks, so I'm not sure if they come in cast iron or not. My guess is that they would since there is so much Coca-Cola merchandise on the market, but I'm not 100% positive.
