Mickey & Minnie: What do they do?

Hey everyone! Just thinking about some wedding stuff (as usual :goodvibes) and we really, really want a character at our wedding to create lots of Disney "magic" :wizard:. We were originally going to go with the "uninvited guests" but decided against it because of 1) the cost, and 2) my mom, MOH, and MOH's mom all hated the idea. I'm also worried because it could be a total bust, and also I don't think they really go with our wedding. So we cut them. My second choice is to have M&M, mainly because I've seen a lot of pics from other Dis brides, and the pics with them are amazing!!! I fell in love with all of them.

But I'm worried that they might seem....I dunno, childish at our wedding (no offense to anyone! We love M&M!). We have about 100 people attending and there will only be about 5 kids. What do they do when they get there (besides pose for pics)? I know they don't talk, so I'm also worried that there will be some "awkward silences".

Also, how much do they cost together, and how much is Mickey by himself? Thanks!

They usually come out for some dancing, pictures, and the cake cutting. They stay out for 30 minutes.

I've read lots of trip reports where brides say the adults seemed to love Mickey & Minnie even more than the kids. ;)

The first character is $900 and then the second would be $450 for the 30 minutes that they appear together. HTH!

I am on the "fence" with this one as well...we only have 20 guests and one child but would love to have at least Mickey at the cake cutting ceremony...

Definitely something to think about if I am going to pay 900 for only a half hour...that seems crazy to me.

I was on the fence too and DH was really unsure. We had 66 guests and only three of those were children. Would it be too childish? Would people think it was silly? But honestly, it was fantastic. People were going crazy you would have thought Johnny Depp walked in the room! Even people that were not into the idea of a Disney wedding admitted that having the characters there was really cool.

To answer some of your other questions. We had them come after the cake cutting, for dancing and mingling. Mainly they were on the dance floor, and Mickey can dance! He had a dance off with our ring bearer, it was hysterical. Then we took a bunch of pictures, did a group shot and they led the way to the DP which I thought was a nice touch.

There are lots of pics in my PJ. They were absolutely worth every penny to us. I can't remember how much they were and I think the price went up, but it's a better "deal" to have two. For our wedding, I was glad to have two since they split up and everyone got to interact with them. For a smaller wedding, one would definitely be fine.

My feeling was, with a Disney wedding it's nice to do a few things that can only be done at Disney. So that's why the characters and DP were really important to me.

I don't think of characters as "childish" at all! Many times, the adults that visit the characters in the parks are much more excited to meet the characters. Adults are much more aware of character interaction and the characters themselves love to interact with adults who can understand what they are trying to convey through body language, something that children often dont understand. To avoid ackward silences, have questions prepared for Mickey. Ask him if he's been thinking about proposing to Minnie anytime soon or talk about how spiffy he looks in his wedding attire. The trick is to think of them as real beings; ask them questions and they will have some interesting things to communicate back, even if they can't "talk."
Hope that helps! :D

Hi! I agree with everyone else, it not silly at all. I just got my LOA back so I am just starting the planning process ( wedding is 21 October 2011)l - however we both know we want characters. Its funny because we decided early on that we wanted them, and did not give much thought to anyone else lol- however as we tell people we find they are super excited about it and keep asking if we will have them there :lmao:

We want donald and daisy, and I REALLY want scuba mickey- we are having our reception at LSS- but that's a lot of money for characters , so we will see- but in the end we will definitely have some there.

If it makes you guys happy to have characters I say go for it! Its your day.. have a blast!:)

I actually just cut the characters. I really wanted them there but the more I thought about it the more I realized that we could cut that expense. We are a party of 28 and I wanted them their when we cut the cake and to mingle. I know their isn't going to be much dancing at my wedding and thats a big part of what they do. Since we cut them we decided to order mickey hats for all our guests.

This is what a typical visit from Mickey & Minnie at your Reception would look like:

1. Big introduction, approx 3 dance songs, dancing with all guests
2. 1 slow song, Mickey w/Bride, Minnie w/Groom
3. Assist with Cake Cutting
4. Personal pics w/B&G in lobby of hotel or separate area from the main reception.

As you can see, there is really no time for awkward silences... and the adults are just as excited as the kids, sometimes more so. I see it all the time!

Hope this helps...

We didn't have a lot of kids at our reception either, well, at least not toward the cake cutting portion of it. Mickey and Minnie came out and did a few dances with everyone -- I skipped the slow dance, because that would DEFINITELY have been awkward for me. So, they did the YMCA and another song I can't remember and then they helped cut the cake, took a few pics with us and then invited our guests to come take pictures, too.

We didn't have any kids at our wedding and everyone loved having Mickey and Minnie there! If you can spend the $, it well worth it, the pictures you get are great!
Everyone seems to like this one, so I thought I'd repost..

I didnt think you could have other outfits? I thought it was tux mickey only?
Has this changed?

We had 22 adults at our wedding and no children.

We kept Mickey and Minnie a secret from everyone.

My planner let us know when they were outside and my Dad made a little speech about having two very special famous guests here to meet everyone.

(Still no one had a clue - turns out afterward they all thought he meant it was sports stars as he know lots of them. Lol)

When they came in they place went crazy!! It was just unreal how much noise 22 people can make!

Jack and I danced with them for half a song and then they dance with other guests.

We then cut the cake and then had a few group photos with them an the monorail before everyone had a chance to meet them individually and have photos.

Jack didn't want characters and only did it for me. But he know says that moment they walked in was one of his highlights of the day and it certainly made the day for our guests. :)

Scuba Mickey is special to LSS. Instead of him being in the room with everyone else he actually swims up inside the tank for pictures and such.

Thanks everybody! I've decided we are having M&M!! DF isn't too crazy about 'em but I am!

Great decision! Can't wait to see the pics. I wanted them but we can't afford it, it was either them or the MK shoot & I had my heart set on the shoot.

How exciting though? Mickey and Minnie at your wedding, thats gonna be soooo cool!

Mickey and Minnie have a few dress options. They can be in their normal attire (red and Black), purple (which I did - check my PJ if you want to see), gold and the white and black wedding attire. I also have seen them dressed as pirates. Talk to your planner about the different outfits that are available.

It is so worth it to have the characters. I had one baby at my wedding and all the rest were adults(about 40 people) and we all had so much fun with Mickey and Minnie. If you are having a DJ or Band then they will dance with you and the guests. You also get the opportunity to take some great photos. I made sure that they were in my budget because my husband and I both wanted them. We also did not tell anyone and everyone was so surprised! It was amazing.
