We were up at 6:30 today and on our way out by 7:10. We got to the car park at Fort Wilderness at 7:30 and only waited a couple of minutes for a bus so we were at the check-in point for the Segway tour well before the 8:30 start.

At about 8:20 we met our guides, Frank and Forrest who took us, together with the other 7 people doing the tour, in to sign the paperwork and kit us out with helmets and earpieces so we could hear Frank's commentary as we went round. We then watched a short safety video and were given a bottle of water each before we were taken out to our Segways. We had about half an hour of training, which consisted of getting on, practicing going forwards, backwards and turning, and going up and down hill, and then were off onto the trail.

There was a short toilet stop just after we started and then we rode round for a picture stop with the castle and Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom in the background.

From there we went round to the Tri Circle D Ranch where we saw the Walt Disney World horses, including John who is ridden by the Headless Horseman in the Boo To You parade.

We then carried on our tour round to the next stop, which was by Bay Lake opposite the Contemporary Resort. Finally we went round to Wilderness Lodge and completed the tour by riding back to the bike barn at Fort Wilderness, arriving back at 10:45.

We did the Segway tour around World Showcase at EPCOT a few years ago but I found this one better as it took in a few different surfaces, from concrete to gravel and grass to mulch, and the scenery was obviously a lot better.

From there we got the bus back to the car park and drove round to the Contemporary Resort for a look around the shops and a drink. We also wanted to go to Magic Kingdom to have a quick look in the shops so we left the car at the Contemporary and wandered over.

We started off by walking through the shops on the right hand side of Main Street where Dad bought himself a watch the same as the one I got a couple of years ago.

Then we walked back through the shops on the other side before leaving the park and getting the monorail back to the Contemporary Resort. From there we drove back to BWV to have a few hours break before going out for the evening.

We went back out at 5:45 and drove over to Steak 'n Shake where Dad had a Frisco Melt (two steak burgers with American and Swiss cheeses on buttery grilled sourdough with sweet 'n tangy Frisco sauce) and I had a Western BBQ 'n Bacon Steakburger (double steak burger topped with American cheese, hickory smoked bacon, diced and crispy fried onions then drenched in sweet 'n smoky BBQ sauce). Both came with fries, Dad had a coke, I had a root beer and the whole lot only came to just over $14.

From there we went over to MK for MNSSHP, arriving at the gates at about 6:40.

First stop was at the shop where Dad bought his watch earlier so that he could have another link taken out of it as it was still a bit loose, then we went over to Frontierland to join the queue to meet the Seven Dwarves. After waiting in the queue for about half an hour and hardly moving I went up to the front to see what was happening and it was obvious that they were not getting through the groups very quickly so I settled for just taking a picture of the dwarves and went back to tell Dad that we should give it up as a bad job or we would be waiting all night.

Next stop was Brer Rabbit's Laughin' Place Candy Patch to start collecting our candy.

From there we walked over to Haunted Mansion, which was more or less a walk on.

Next we went into Fantasyland and, after grabbing some more candy, went on It's A Small World.

We bought a couple of party exclusive pins and grabbed more candy in Fantasyland before moving on to Tomorrowland where we grabbed even more before going on the PeopleMover.

We got some more candy and then wandered round to the hub and found a spot in front of the castle to watch Hallowishes, which started at 9:30.

After the fireworks we made our way back through Tomorrowland and Fantasyland to Liberty Square to take up our favourite spot for the parades, which is outside the Hall of Presidents. Unfortunately despite this being the second parade loads of people had beaten us to it so we didn't get the best of spots and the photos I took aren't that great.

After the parade we grabbed some more candy from beside the river boat, then wandered over to Frontierland and rode Big Thunder Mountain, which was also a walk on. Either it was wilder than we remembered or people are right and it does seem more intense in the dark!

Next we went to Adventureland and got some more candy then rode Pirates of the Caribbean, which was about a 5 minute wait although the queue was constantly moving.

After Pirates we got one final handful of candy then made our way back to Main Street and left the park at about 11:45, which is the latest we have ever been in a Disney park.

We got the monorail back to the TTC, which for those who missed the news now has two different trams going to two different halves of the parking lot - heroes and villains. We were in the villains section and went over to the relevant tram stop where a tram was just about to leave and there was a bit of a kerfuffle with a family trying to board after last boarding had been called and a CM having to keep telling them to wait behind the yellow line so the tram could leave. That tram eventually left and a second one pulled in right behind, which we all got on. Just as that tram was about to pull away the same family who had caused the problem earlier called the CM over and asked if the tram was going to the heroes parking lot, which of course it wasn't, so we were held up again while they all got off! For anybody who is going in the future make sure you remember which section you are parked in and look for the relevant signs when you get back to the TTC.

We were soon back at the car and back at BWV for about 12:30 where it was straight to bed with no plans for tomorrow.

As a footnote - today (27th September) marked 7 years since my Mum died, and it was the first time in those 7 years I forgot the significance of the date, but I suppose a day of fun at Disney will do that for you. :flower2:

Day 8

:)

It was WDW that got me addicted to Segways. After my first go on them (the Epcot tour) I actually bought my own and I use it to get into work and back when the weather is nice enough.

OK now I'm jealous...and confused. I thought they weren't street legal over here? :confused3

You have been busy writing the trippie reports - must take a leaf out of your book! :rolleyes1
Segway tour looks good and is something we will do when my DD is a little older. Is there a minimum age for the tours?
We had a wander around the stables a few years ago whilst waiting to enter Hoop de Doo.
I particularly like the last fireworks shot....sums the event up really well! :thumbsup2

Technically, no they're not. But it's not like I'm a chavvy tween on a mini moto.

In a way it's like the whole recording with a VCR law. The letter is one thing but the practice is wholly different. In fact the Ex-Lib Dem MP. Lembit Opik (sp?) deliberately rode one up and down in front of the department of transport saying 'Either legalise it or arrest me'. Well they didn't legalise it, but they never came out or arranged for him to be arrested either...

I've been stopped twice by our friends in the constabulary and both times they just wanted to talk about it and to have a go!

I type it up at the end of each day so all I need to do when I get back is upload the photos and put the links in. :goodvibes I would have done that while we were away but it seems that transferring the photos to iPad and uploading them through the Photobucket app gives them random names and gets them all out of order. :sad2:

There's a minimum age of 16 for the Segway tours.

Thanks, my fireworks shots are very much hit and miss - for every good shot there are 5 that have to be binned because they are blurred. :rotfl2:

Ah right. So to quote Shakespeare (or Yes Prime Minister ;) ) - "It's more honoured in the breach than in the observance. :thumbsup2

Wow, David! Pretty much just--Wow! What a wonderful day full of fun and memories.

You and your Dad being so close, doing joyful things together, seems a beautiful tribute to your Mother.

What a fun filled day. Where is the carriage i must get to. See it this year?

It's in Fantasyland, opposite Peter Pan's Flight where you walk through to Liberty Square and Haunted Mansion. :)

Did many people dress up as it doesnt look like many did from the firework photos:confused3

I think more people didn't than did. I remember seeing a few Belles (both ordinary and Princess dresses), some Buzz Lightyears, a Cinderella and Prince Charming, some Snow Whites, a few people in masks and in front of us at Pirates of the Caribbean........a sexy police woman. :scared1:  :)

Oh David what a great report!! I was so keen to see your take on MNSSHP as we also attended that night. I don't blame you giving up on the 7 Dwarves line. It is very slow moving and the CMs were having a real time of it trying to stop people from photographing them with families (not talking about the ones like you took without other people/their kids in it - I also managed a few of those) but yes, the line didn't move quickly. You would have wasted valuable party time in a line and I had decided beforehand that anything more than 30 minutes of party time was costing us and not worth it.

We did get to see them but just to back you up on how long the wait was, we arrived at MK early, got in line at 6.15 and met the Dwarves an hour later. We were not that far from the front when we joined the line either, which shows how slow it was. When we left, we overheard a CM saying the line was an estimated 2 hours and 40 minutes :scared1:

Didn't you love the Frontierland trick or treat trail? It was just as good as the old Toontown Trail we thought :thumbsup2

What a wonderful way to spend an anniversary close to your heart :) I am sure your mum would have approved wholeheartedly of your choice of activities for the day.

Would you do the Segway tour again?

Thank you. :goodvibes We didn't join the line until about 6:50 and only got as far as the bottom of the stairs going up to the station so we probably had at least another hour wait. What got me when I went up to the front was that it 'appeared' that CMs were allowing families to have multiple photos taken - one with just the kids, one with Mum and Dad, one with Mum, Dad and the kids etc. which just seemed unfair. I might be wrong but I definitely saw one family do it and adding that to the fact that the dwarves kept going in for breaks it was at that point I decided it just wasn't worth waiting.

We never got to see the Toontown trail but the Frontierland one was definitely good.

Thank you, I'm sure she would. I was quite shocked when I realised a few days later that I hadn't spared a thought for her at all that night. She would be happy to know that we were having such a good day though.

I would definitely do that Segway tour again. I absolutely love them, although when I got on this time I couldn't stop shaking (and laughing at the same time that it was so ridiculous that I was shaking). Forrest kept telling me to relax but I just couldn't. If we had the space here and the money I would definitely buy one for myself, they are such good fun.

Unfortunately multiple shots per family seemed to be unavoidable. We didn't split up and Photopass gave us 2 pics and we were on our way. I do object to people taking pictures of our family in a bid to get a quick snap of the characters though and the CM's were really having a hard time trying to control this which was stalling the photographers and causing huge delays. There is a small gap between families and like you did, this would be the best time for people to get pictures of the Dwarves but it just didn't seem to compute with some people.

We had some pics done later that evening with Donald and Daisy and the CM stopped our photographer and went and blocked someone's camera (view) as he was about to take pics of DD. Not of her intentionally, but he obviously wanted his photos without a line and these CMs were really not taking any nonsense. :thumbsup2

How beautiful are those horses Segway tour sounds brilliant! x

What a lovely day David, love the segway tour and the beautiful horses, and a great late night was had. A day in WDW.....more than a fitting tribute to your mum:hug:
