I was awake at 5:00 today and got up at about 6:30. We had intended to get the boat to Hollywood Studios but I had left my trainers in the car and Dad's hat was also in there so at about 8:00 we got the car back from the valet and drove over to Hollywood Studios.

For some reason they didn't do the usual park opening show today and just went straight to rope drop at 9:00. First of all we made our way over to Toy Story Mania and joined the standby queue, although I got annoyed at the people in front of us who were looking for the rest of their party to join them and holding up the queue so in the end I pushed past them. We didn't have too much of a wait and we both enjoyed the ride as usual.

After Toy Story we wandered around to Muppet Vision 3D, which is still enjoyable even though it is so old, and it is always fun watching the kids trying to grab the things in front of them.

After Muppets we went round and rode The Great Movie Ride where we got the gangster version again. I spent most of the ride looking for 'backstage' bits like cues for the cast members and particularly at the Indiana Jones scene I was looking for any movement but the CM was solid as a rock.

Can anyone spot the mistake in this photo?

From the Great Movie Ride we had a wander around the shops and then at 11:15 went to check in for our 11:30 reservation at Sci-Fi Dine-In. We were seated in a car within about 5 minutes and both ordered the Reuben sandwich with a cherry coke for Dad and a vanilla coke for me.

After eating we went round to wander through One Man's Dream.

We then went into the Animation Gallery where we bought a gold plated and paper replica of a Magic Kingdom opening day ticket book, which we had seen in Art of Disney yesterday. It is part of a limited edition of 2,011 and cost $150, although we got $15 off with our annual passes.

By now it was about 12:35 so we left the park and went to Walgreens where Dad got some Bay Rum smellies and some spray on sunscreen then we made our way back to BWV to relax for the rest of the afternoon.

A couple of experimental photos

And one of my favourites from the trip

At about 6:00 we went out for dinner, which tonight was at Golden Corral where we both started with salad, followed by soup, various bits and pieces of main course then Dad had ice cream and I had a couple of cookies. Once we had finished eating we went back to BWV where we stopped off in the Belle Vue lounge for a Tennessee Honey each (cocktails, not ladies from the South), then it was back upstairs to watch Illuminations from the balcony, then bed at 10:00 with a shopping/rest day planned for tomorrow and another ADR in the evening at a new restaurant for us.

Day 4

Is it a paw print?
Love the photos and the golden ticket you have is a real treasure for the future love it:rotfl2:

Is it a missing L?

The "l" is missing from Charlton Heston's name?

Yes it is, well done. :goodvibes

I don't know if there's any official explanation for why he missed out the L but we first saw it mentioned in the book: The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World by Susan Veness - definitely worth getting a copy and reading it.

It happened during the handprint ceremony. He was signing his name, and something caused him to look up. However, he forgot where he was for signing (and skipped the "L"). So he misspelled his own name

About your experimental photos--The first one looks like a freeze frame from Martin Scorsese's series on HBO "Boardwalk Empire." Very 1920's. Very nice.

Regarding the book you recommended The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World (which I also found fascinating)--Did you spot Susan Veness' thank you to Debbie Churchill on the Acknowledgments page? BTW, have you read the most recent installments of Debbie's "Only 24 Hours to Tulsa" TR, her report about visiting me last summer? And yet another BTW, have you read her pre-TR "Take Me Back to Tulsa" about their return to Tulsa in two weeks? Well, if not, do. I know you're busy writing your own report now--but when you take a break, read about my part of the world. Debbie describes it beautifully.

Thanks Joanna. :goodvibes

Thanks Susan, that was kind of the thing I was going for. When I first took the camera out onto the balcony and switched it on the lens misted over as I took a photo which gives it a kind of 'foggy morning on the Boardwalk' look which I think looks quite nice but Dad wasn't sure so I haven't posted it.

I didn't spot the acknowledgment to Debbie but I'll look out for it now. I'm a bit behind on her trip report now as well but, as you know, Dad and I both want to do Route 66 so I will definitely be catching up with it soon.

Love the sepia toned boardwalk photos. What did you think of the Sci Fi Dine In .. we were very disappointed with the bog standard high priced fast food style food but loved the atmosphere and the B-Movies. Enjoying your trip report so far :thumbsup2

Thanks Sarah. I wasn't sure if people would 'get' what I was trying to do with the sepia photos so it's nice to see the positive comments.

This was the second time we have been to Sci-Fi and we love it. The reuben sandwich is always great but we look at it as more of a 'counter service with entertainment', a bit like Cosmic Ray's so we really enjoy it. I would only ever do it for lunch though, not dinner. We had a great server this time - we were sitting in the back row of the car and she kept telling the family in front that as we were 'hitch-hikers' we had to pay their bill!

Great photos David esp the sepia one. As Susan says it looks like a scene from Boardwalk Empire:goodvibes
